2022 US Elections

If I was DeSantis I wouldn’t run against him. It will be very bitter, if you win he’ll claim it’s a steal, you’ll lose his supporters which you need to win the presidency and you also risk an independent Trump which kills any chance you have. In 4 years you’re guaranteed the nomination, he’s young enough to wait. That would be my advice - and I’ve watched West Wing at least 4 times - even the shit seasons.

I've only watched the last 2 seasons twice, the amount of times I've watched good ones is basically too embarrassing to reveal.

Trump as an independent in 2024. TV debate with Newsom, DeSantis, and Trump! That would be fun!

On the other hand, DeSantis is now clearly the top dog in the Republican Party. Momentum within the party is in his favor. Situation might not be the same in 4 years.
I’m not convinced it is clear that he’d definitely win. From what I’ve seen he was behind Trump in the polls - maybe the mid-terms change that but like I said - running against Trump in an inevitably bitter race risks alienating Trump’s base even if he does win and he needs them to have a chance of winning the presidency. No good winning the nomination if you kill your chance of winning the presidency. Trump declaring first next week gives him a very tough decision to make.

feck that, hopefully Trump will be locked up by then.

Now I want to watch The West Wing again, even the shit seasons

What are the good seasons of West Wing? Or is it one of those that is worth watching start to finish? It's been on my to watch list for years and years.

Tbf, the West Wing helped convince people that there are good Republicans that speak like Aaron Sorkin who are worth compromising with. And moreover that people in government are smart and working towards good policy.

Even if Two Cathedrals is great TV

I don’t mind 6 and 7 - though the White House based stories outside of the campaign stuff become a real drag! Season 5 is the one I struggle most with.

I'll have to watch it again and do a season by season breakdown.

To be fair it’s from an era where Romney and McCain were the devil. The devil has got a lot more batshit in recent years.

And actually thinking about it outside of Ainsley and Vinnick I hate all the republicans

I pretend it's real. I still hate them all because they're wrong, but they at least try to be right, goddarnit.

If this was the other way she would be saying it's proof God/Jesus favored the GOP and all. So, shouldn't this be proof God/Jesus despises their platforms?

I guess that's asking too much critical thinking from a religious nutjob.
Option 1. God is testing us
Option 2. The Devil is doing this
Option 3. The Lord works in mysterious ways

Option 4. God disapproves of what I’m doing

Just start at the beginning and the rest will take care of itself.

Do you all consider DeSantis to be worse than Trump?

He seems as conservative, but far more politically savvy.
Yes. Trump is a narcissist whose whims blow with what shiny thing is in front of him or what makes him angry. DeSanctis is targeted on what benefits him the most to gain power, regardless of who it hurts. His airplane flights and the shit he pulled with regards to voter arrests are all the proof you need that he views people as tools to be used to benefit his thirst for power. With Trump the cruelty was random and often personal, while with DeSanctis the cruelty is a tool to be used to frighten and suppress and that terrifies me exponentially more.

Not necessarily smarter, I think Trump was very clever in the way he did everything in plain sight because he knows that it’s not a crime if you’re a politician, but I think he will be more effective and get more done with his dark arts.

Tweets that proceed unfortunate events:

OMFG of course the Clark County presser was unhelpful in understanding the total number of remaining votes to be counted. Around 15k votes from mail-in and drop boxes received on Monday will be announced tonight, another 12-13k of mail that came in today that will only be processed starting tomorrow. However, they have yet to count votes from drop boxes on election day, no number given on the amount but the dude said it was "considerable". For context, the culinary union (largest Dem bloc in the state) confirmed they recommended their members to use these drop boxes instead of wait in line. So we still don't really have an idea of what's going on but there's some hope.

He was probably just referring to his post-cocaine bender nosebleeds.
Do we reckon it’s just coke he does? Bet it’s not park coke anyway.

I certainly have not been brainwashed .If you haven’t heard of OAN you are not very well informed.
He's doing the "oh I don't really pay much attention, but..." thing
You are a WUM
NO. Somebody posted a vid from right wing media saying they spread misinformation and I merely said the left wing media do this also but I was told it wasn't nearly the same level by people who have clearly been indoctrinated by it, which seems to be most in this thread. I have nearly a decade of receiving constant news from primarily left wing media sources so can confirm it too relies on fearmongering and misinfo as was in said video. Even the other day I saw these claims.

I quote "A historian 50 years from now, if historians are allowed to write in this country and if there's still publishing houses and a free press which im not certain of, but if that is true a historian will say what was at stake tonight and this was the fact whether we will be a democracy in the future, whether our children will be arrested and conceivably KILLED, we're on the edge of a brutal authoritarian system and it could be a week away"

(On the midterms, Historian Michael Beschloss on MSNBC telling people that if you vote GOP and they win then your children will be arrested and possibly killed! On national TV this was stated. Given how people care so much for their children I see that as dangerous and irresponsible claim)

He also said if Joe Biden fails America loses its democracy and quoted imperial Japan, Hitler, Mussolini and Italian fascism, Civil War, and how in this midterm this could all happen extremely fast after the midterm. I guess this is why America needs guns too right, for protection from become just like fascist Europe?

Some other recent mild quotes
"Unfortunately this year, black men have been a very targeted population for misinformation," (Stacey Abrams)

"I think that Stacey is spot on with that," "I listen as my kids watch NBA highlights and whatever else they watch on YouTube. I hear the misinformation being piped in." ( Keisha Lance Bottoms)

"we need to talk about the demon of disinformation" is making "black male voters in Georgia willing to support Raphael Warnock but not Stacey Abrams."

(MSNBC this time regarding Ms Abrams lower turnout from black male voters. Nobody stated or identified specific falsehoods or misleading statements. Simply to claim African American men are less educated or don't understand politics as well as the African American women and are vulnerable.

One simply needs to engage better with the groups you are targeting or deliver on promises or what they care about. Never blame the audience. reality is black men have not seen a decrease in the number of Black men killed by police. Black men are still unemployed at 2 X rate of others, and those who are arrested still sit in jail even though they haven’t been proven guilty. This is a conscious choice from people who do not see politics addressing their key issues. But hey its because black men don't know shit according to the media!)

Today I'm going to watch a documentary about social media and its political polarization in America so I can stay fully woke with my tin foil hat on. I may even delete my twitter. Stay indoctrinated though. Peace!

Yet you are still somehow blissfully unaware of right wing vitriol.

To better engage with you I was wondering if you could let me know where you hail from. It sounds like you may not be from the US, but if so, it would be great to know so as not to sound condescending in my replies.

This can't happen, right? This is going to be Lucy pulling the football and I am not going to fall for it.
