2020 US Elections | Biden certified as President | Dems control Congress

They should've just stopped the counting when Trump said they should. He's the President so let him decide.

Biden had 220 to Trumps 213 when he called for counting to stop.

Agree, just a whole host of errors. Not read the mood of the country at all.
I don't think it is about reading mood. The people who voted for Trump were always going to do so. Turnout is trending upwards.
It is simply a deeply divided country.

Trump has Georgia. 120k votes lead with 99% reporting. Fox still at 93% reporting but once you drill down into the county numbers it's clear that 99% is closer to the truth.

I don't get this Dems didn't put the perfect candidate rubbish.
That you need a perfect candidate against this Neanderthal after four years of experience shows the electorate is lost.

Obama won big against much better opponents. Yes even he turned out to be a hollow president but he also always had a solid policy platform and not just an anti-opponent one. Dem strategy of going with "safest" choice did not yield the results they wanted to. Once again they got carried away by trying to turn States like Florida and Texas.

With this level of support for Trump, there's no realistic scenario in which this is an easy win for Democrats. Turnout has reached record heights; with millions of votes still to be counted, Biden already reached Hillary's level from four years ago. His vote share will only increase from here, in all likelihood.

For me, it's really really hard to see what they could have done in this era of increasing polarisation. Could they have squeezed out of a couple more percents in some important states? Sure, probably. But overall the moral of the story seems to be that those calling themselves centrists or independents are generally right-leaning people. Nothing new but it's confirmed again and again.
I 100% agree with this. Its the manic support for Trump that these people are voting against their own interest in blind deference. I mean if Biden wins he will have peeled off some suburban white people in key counties. But, damn the black men and women in Georgia trying their hardest to save the country and looking at the rest of the nation like they are nuts. They stood in lines for hours upon hours. Stacy Abrahams should get a lot of credit for the effort since she lost her Gv battle there she put into fighting voter suppression, and winning court battles to fix some of the things that went wrong in her race to even get close.

Still with all the racism, all the division, the denial of science, the deaths from poor covid management thats its even this close. People cant seriously suggest well shoulda picked ____ guy. Bernie would not have gotten this close. That socialist label that GOP and fox news threw out deserving or not clearly worked in alot of these races.

Biden was never counting on Texas or Florida though. Florida is always close it would have been nice but the strategy was clearly to rebuild the "Blue wall" which we are waiting on results still. And trying to get Arizona. He didnt even expect Georgia to be this close

Can’t wait for all the tweets about how the polls were all actually correct and within the margin of error and the popular vote and bla bla fecking bla

I agree but Biden could have done a lot more to appeal to the wavering voters. He does not present a strong candidate at all. It’s just a sad state of affairs all round.

Which ever way this goes, looks like jackpot for US lawyers

Anyone that voted for Trump, or claims not all Trump voters are bad people can go feck themselves. Every single one of them is a piece of shit.
And it is language like this that contributes to keeping morons like trump in power. Has it not occurred to you that every time a sanctimonious ‘progressive’ belittles a ‘conservative’ (particularly the fence-sitters), that perhaps that might harden their resolve and therefore in part contribute to putting that orange clown in power?

In fairness, the democrats have thought they had a chance the last few elections because the state is trending purple. One day it will be flipped.
It's like Arizona: Hillary was called an idiot for campaigning there but here we are four years later and it's blue.

Polls were tightening in the rust belt.

538/Twitter chose to ignore it as always.

It sort of works for your argument, too.

No. There are 450k votes still to be counted and most will be in urban areas. They are not counting anymore today so numbers can't have moved in the last two hours. Still possible for Biden.

Maine called. That and MN make the rest of the midwest look good for Biden, but then Ohio and Iowa do the opposite. Just have to wait I guess, but now time for bed I think.

Wow the odds are whack. I've doubled down in Biden, clear to me that he had this when the voted flow in. This assumes Trump doesn't feck shit up.

Nah that post is nonsense. No matter what democrats say it can't be responsible for the actions of others. Conservatives are responsible for their own actions and no amount of democratic self flagellation will ever change that.

I agree that it's sad that so many voted for him but Dems have to hold their hands up. They fecked up when Trump did nothing different. Biden is and was a poor candidate - when your only real platform is "I am not Trump'" then you are asking for trouble.

Democrats never really put out a vision/dream/something to aim for. Saying it's not Trump' is not the same thing

Agreed it's a terrible indictment on the US political system. Compare the debates between Nixon and Kennedy and these two and it's hard not to see glaring signs of a decaying system. You actually knew what they wanted. In this election people just knew what they didn't want. Though I don't think it's altogether impossible that those decays will be seized upon and exploited for the better by recent entrants to the political system with new ideas and an a genuine understanding of the average American.

Are centrists like @Raoul ready to accept yet that Biden was a poor candidate and a risky choice? A lot of the reasons thrown up on why he was the right one have surely fallen away at this point...

I'm never going to ever trust polls on US elections ever again, that's for sure. Even with the margins of error this is a massive failure yet again isn't it?
Seems the polling industry is a massive fraud. I would consider their opinion as accurate as Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity from now on. People will bring up margin of error stuff but it just seems pseudo science now.

I wonder if in 2000 years historians are contemplating whether Trump is the US's Commodus, the one who began their decline and ultimate destruction by the hands of the, uhm, Canadians?

Pure nonsense but it does work as yet another mechanism for people to shift blame away form their own selfishness.
