Well I'm convinced. Trump it is then, he is much less awful than Harris.

The ballot is principally Biden vs Trump. The VP pick is a side show.

Obviously I’m talking about all other races that sees her on a ballot vs another.

Have you heard of Mike Pence?

Fly Boy is a white male, so he doesn't have to worry about holding back so as not to seem like an angry woman.

Every single woman in my life who watched the debate last night had the same comment, that they could tell she was holding back just as they feel they have to in their own work lives so as to not be deemed as offensive.

But hey, she's "weird", right?

I'll take weird over white supremacy

We had this discussion today at work, but my post was more toward the "lacks personality" comment by UP.

Further to what you're saying I think there's also the President/Vice President dynamic at play. We all know what Harris is like but if she came out of her debate looking more assertive and stronger than Joe Biden it would hurt the campaign and the Republicans would press that angle. Biden is weak, he's a puppet. Harris, Green New Deal, AOC, etc. They are trying that on now but not very successfully. Imagine if Harris had demolished Pence aggressively last night? They'd use that as confirmation pf everything they're saying now.

Well Pence is a weird one. He was borderline charismatic while on the radio. The old videos of him are just weird. He was animated and a little playful.

Video

Harris is just a ghoul. That weird laugh of hers is unsettling. She’s someone that is always just flirting with having a personality. Her brain is constantly sending the emotions to her face a little out of sync with the words. Just a half second. Like a bad dvdrip. You still watch it, but you can’t get rid of that nagging feeling.

EDIT : I shouldn’t have to say that I’m not pro-Pence. Only that Harris lacking a personality isn’t negated by a 60+ year old white devout Christian Vice President being one of the weirdest people most have ever seen.

Maybe? But let me ask you this, if Harris was a male VP candidate would it still matter as much? The role of the VP is usually to BE more aggressive. To be the attack dog. Why is it that when the VP candidate is a woman that she has to be meeker than her running mate?

My sister for example is a kick ass corp. attorney, but she has to constantly deal with male chauvinist bullshit from he clients and the partners at her firm. She wanted to see Harris unload, I guess kind of as a catharsis. IT is more along the lines of this is 2020 and a woman VP candidate had to worry about offending the sensibilities of the male voting public.

Wouldn’t matter one iota if she were a guy.

A 23 year old video of a radio host who is bouncing around like he's high on cocaine while doing his best Rush Limbaugh impression isn't really personality, though.

Nice quote, a paraphrase of what chomsky said from the opposite direction.

Lee's quote ignores the fact that democracy and liberty are intertwined - e.g. liberty includes being able to freely and democratically choose your elected representatives.

Yes, I think it does. I can't think of a single vice president in my living memory who presented as stronger, more assertive or aggressive than the President. You can make the case for some of them but politically you want the impression to be that the President is the strong one.

I’m making my point poorly.

Kamala Harris - A very odd bunny rabbit. Looks like she’s invented a personality for herself by watching videos.

Mike Pence - A very odd bunny rabbit.

I don’t need to bring the oddness of Mike Pence into a conversation on how weird Harris is. My thoughts on her have nothing to do with any male-female, red-blue, Black-white schism. She’s just a very weird human.

If someone ain't voting Biden at this point, no amount of Trump shouting like a kid will do so. He's weak response on white supremacy alone should have been enough. If someone want proof beyond this well Trump would have to flash on camera or something (and even then virgins and losers would go "alpha trump!" and vote him in)

Yeah i agree but i reckon there's always those voters put off by the candidate on their side but not won round by the opposition so default back to partisanship.

I think in my head I'm just making excuses ahead of time why Trump somehow wins again. 2020 does not need topping off with a Trump victory

Trump pulling out of virtual debate which has to be that due to his Covid! He knows he can't shout over from a virtual setting so withdraws! Then says he will hold a rally but who would go there when he's had Covid?

They should empty chair him. That would wind him up.

They should place the famous inflatable orange baby in nappies (diapers) in the chair ... that'd wind him up even more.

My point was that Pence is even more weird, so it's funny to me that you would pick out Harris' foibles seeing as she actually has personality, odd as it may be. Pence is so devoid of anything that a fly sat on his head for two minutes.

Ironically enough, the first one that sprang to mind was Joe Biden himself against Paul Ryan in 2012. He went right after him aggressively.

But did you come away with the impression that Biden was stronger, more assertive and more leaderlike than Obama? Probably not.

You really can't have your VP or VP candidate come across that way. It would be terrible optically.

Why would I give a feck about Mike Pence? I’ve written his name more in the last half hour that I have my entire life.

I shouldn’t have to let the weirdness of Harris wash over me just because there’s a weirder person on the planet.

No, but Biden still had the option to BE aggressive. I 100% guarantee you that no matter who was the partner for Harris she would not have been aggressive last night, and that is my point. And that is the bullshit.

Because if Trump wins this year he will likely be President sometime in the next 4 years when tubby kicks it?

Spyro Agnew / Dick Cheney (the former I wasn't alive for) but ol' Dick certainly was more aggressive than Bush Jr, totally surprised Cheney never ran for President himself.

Huh? What the hell is going on? Are you really suggesting I need to pass comment on Mike Pence if I want to talk about a completely different person?

There are some people in these threads who feel the need to step in whenever someone makes a comment about A, when B is objectively worse. No matter that you took it for granted that B was objectively worse and just wanted to say something about A.

It's very strange.

He was president in a lot of ways, he just never bothered running top of the ticket because he is a dry shite.

U.S. politics is all whataboutisms, unfortunately we are all guilty of it. She seems competent though.

Dude, you quite literally asked : "Why should I give a feck about Mike Pence?"

Me saying you should because he will likely be president if Trump wins and then kicks it is not whataboutism or me commenting on person ABC. I was answering your question.

I strongly dislike Harris and really wish he’d picked Warren. I thought that was just me.
Warren would have been way too easy of a target. Especially in light of the attacks the opposition tried to land on them being anti "law and order" - which - as Pence ironically said yesterday himself- is the exact opposite of Harris.

Spyro is before my time but I'd disagree about Cheney. While he definitely came to mind and was more calculating, cunning and sinister than GW, ol' Dick clearly knew his role.

Either way, what this shows is that it is extremely rare for VP or VP candidate to present as more assertive than the President or Presidential candidate.
