some stooge from Pence's staff is on CNN right now crying about the virtual debate. Is there some sort of finishing school for conservative white people that turns them all into arrogant, lying, demon spawned assholes?

I was feeling giddy about fivethirtyeight's current tracker so went and found where Clinton was on Oct 8th. Almost identical to Biden today. Bugger.

Jim Comey, can you please take a f*cking holiday or something?
She did win the popular vote by a decent margin.

Liberty University. Bob Jones University. Those two spawn those feckers regularly.

Trump pulling out of virtual debate which has to be that due to his Covid! He knows he can't shout over from a virtual setting so withdraws! Then says he will hold a rally but who would go there when he's had Covid?

They should empty chair him. That would wind him up.

Yup. I'm curious if Trump will accept this though? We might just end up with no more debates - which necessarily wouldn't be a bad thing I think.

I don't think it would be, no. Biden won't mind too much either - the debates are just a distraction and an opportunity for Trump to lure Biden down to his level. Basically, Biden will be thinking that the 3rd of November can't come fast enough.

They should just rename it Jim Jones University and drop the pretense.

Disaster for him really, he needs a strong debate to recover from the last one. I mean he will probably make things worse for himself but if that was the final debate between the two he’s in big trouble.

Interesting to see when Barr drops his inevitable DOJ announcement of criminal investigations into the Biden’s.

He’s not alone!

Would love to see him get bounced around in the next couple of days from a few potential rally cities due to covid regulations. If they were smart, they will already have already potential favorable sites (Dakotas, Alabama) chosen time not have any uncertainty. They only have a week to figure out how to have a substantial enough rally.

I think the lack of debate might hurt Biden more than Trump. People must have already decided whether they like Trump or not but I'm sure they'll be those still waiting to be won round to Biden.

Not that Trump is ever presidential but I tend to think debates create a sense of equal footing rather than standing behind title.

That might have been the case if they didn’t have any debates at all. Given the fact they have had a debate already and Trump came out of it much worse, that will be whats remembered.

I think Barr has discredited himself already for those whose votes will matter in this election.

Agree with this. The president is now saying that their side is very concerned with the Biden camp cheating if they do a virtual debate. The projection / confession from this man is so transparent.

The Durham investigation could always drop before the election, but it’s effects will be more tame than the effects of the Comey investigations in 2016.

Biden should debate a tub of lard like Have I Got News For You did when Roy Hattersley failed to appear on the show.

Trump saying he won't participate in the next debate works out nicely for everyone - the candidates, moderators, and public.

I think maybe her handlers decided it was more important to come across as nice, politely assertive, reasonable. Kind, almost, and that way be more likeable. Pence, on the other hand, was prepped for cut snd thrust. Might not help him to win in that sense; the optics of older man vs younger female are not ideal. Think voters won’t be attracted to him even though he thought on his feet and was slick as feck with deflections, etc.

Harris to me did come across as dodging some key questions but I can see the niceness about it. I think she mishandled his attack of "packing the court". Should have just left that.

If someone ain't voting Biden at this point, no amount of Trump shouting like a kid will do so. He's weak response on white supremacy alone should have been enough. If someone want proof beyond this well Trump would have to flash on camera or something (and even then virgins and losers would go "alpha trump!" and vote him in)

There were a couple of times where she completely dodged the question and agreed on the packing the court line of attack as well. But overall, there was nothing that happened last night that would in any way convince someone on the fence to suddenly vote Trump, or even vaguely slowdown the free fall his candidacy has been in over the past 10 days.

Nice quote, a paraphrase of what chomsky said from the opposite direction.

It sums up a lot!

I think we are on the same page..... too much debate bourbon and not enough coffee this morning.

What it sums up is the Republican view on governance.

You know who has a peaceful, prosperous and liberty filled life? My dog. She has no cares, plenty of food and toys, and can sniff and crap anywhere she wants in the back yard.

So without COVID, Trump would've had a really good chance of being re-elected. 4 more years of Trump and no COVID vs. Trump losing and COVID - I wonder which would've been worse.

Only saw the first 30 minutes but I felt Harris did much better despite missing some opportunities. Pence was too low energy and unexpressive. Came off like a creep at times. Harris could have gone harder on several things calling out trump admin more but she overall she did much better

Skin-crawling for non Americans
I don't know how it's used exactly, but it sounds just like how Canadian politics use 'Canadians'. Admittedly, that also makes my skin crawl; but not too uniquely US-ian, then.

Liberty outside the bedroom if you're a white male, and peace and prosperity for the well-to-do. How's that for Doublespeak!
Yes, the almost certainly meant mean average. The problem is that without any context the phrase “the average American paid 4K less in taxes” is bullshit. If ten billionaires paid 100 million less and everyone else paid around the same as before the average would look pretty good, but it would mean feck all. The median however would tell a much more relavent story.
Absolutely. It's rare that mean average is interesting, especially in socio-economic situations. (I'm thinking there must be a good XKCD on this, but if so, I can't find it...)

To follow up, you should be able to see it in the latest polls now. All slightly in favour of Biden.

rcp also showing all 3 as toss ups. sbc 2/3

By this time in the last cycle, the polls were already tightening.

You can tell what would have been going through his mind.

She’s awful. I’ve probably said it a bunch, but she always looks like someone that’s tried to create a personality by watching people with personality. And gets it very wrong. She’s weird.

I strongly dislike Harris and really wish he’d picked Warren. I thought that was just me.
