I'm not against pressing China on some of the trade issues, but the way he did it was his typical scatter-brain approach and was very disruptive at the time. I know it's small peanuts now, but it was creating a few messes at the time.

Also if the US and China weren't so antagonistic at this time, which I think was also caused by his inflammatory speech on this issue the past 3 years, we might've gotten much better cooperation on figuring out a few more things about this virus back in December/January, before it had really made it's way to the US or Europe. Not that it's reasonable to think that it cold have been prevented, you just know that cooperation has been really poor and wonder how the outcome might be slightly better if that weren't the case.
I think his scatter-gun approach actually worked okay against China, as Obama's pivot to Asia didn't really help with China's intimation of surrounding countries.

As for helping with this outbreak, it really wouldn't have helped. China tried to cover it up originally, they're supposed to get on much better with Putin's Russia and the likes of Iran, they are not dealing with it any better.

I don't think our antagonistic relationship was the primary issue. Global pandemics are handled via WHO, not in bilateral exchanges. The problem is that everything this administration does is knee-jerk and incompetent. So, even after WHO knew the facts, and even after WHO had a very well-working tests, US failed to listen, and US failed to adopt WHO's test, instead arrogantly trying to have CDC develop their own tests. CDC tests didn't work and it took them a while to get it right. Same with how long it took the government to become serious about the threat and to stop the bullshit of "it's just like flu".

I still don’t get the Warren VP pick appeal, unless they want someone more aggressive doing all the actual dirty work a la W/Cheney.

Klobuchar at least helps with the GE in theory.

She’s a woman and a progressive (at least among many in the middle). Personally, I would feel much better about a potential Biden Presidency if Warren is the VP - instead of a Harris, Abrams, or Klobuchar, as she’s light years ahead on policy compared to these three.

I would too, but fairly large numbers of Warren voters had Biden as their second choice (as opposed to Bernie like many assumed) so from a practical standpoint I don't see the upside.

Same applies to their 'geographical' strengths in the context of the general. Biden needs far less help in the northeast than he does in Wisconsin.

It's so depressing when you see all these younger world leaders and then think about Grandpa Joe and Granny Liz doddering against Old Man Trump.

Even Cenk on young turks has said that getting Warren as a VP pick should be good for progressives and they should then get behind the ticket. Essentially they are trying to find a pick that they can work with who will also stop the bleeding of Sanders' voters from democratic base.

When you control both the president and the democratic candidate in the up coming election.

Klobuchar actually has got shit done in the senate, so she wouldn't be a bad pick. Harris and Abrams would be there just for diversity quota.

Warren would be an excellent pick IMO, with the only downside being her age. If she becomes VP, she would be older than any US president (except Biden) in the inauguration day. Just that we are at a very unique time when every presidential candidate seems to be over 70.

I don't think old necessarily means bad. The main problem I see for an old president, is that there is more than a trivial chance of dying in office, but other than that, I wouldn't ever base my vote on the age of a politician.

In this case, age doesn't really matter as long as the nominee can win.

She was a charlatan and an opportunist, the very thing people like Red Dreams should rage against. She was the darling of Bernie supporters for the sole reason that she backed Bernie Sanders early in 2016.
“This doesn’t really fit in with her being A.”

“She’s B, C, and D.”

Yes she could well be those things but that’s not what I said

Still can't understand your defence of her though, cheers.
I’m not defending. She’s really odd. I Just like accuracy. She has enough things to criticise her about without making stuff up. Made a post about this earlier in the thread re her military service. We do more harm to ourselves in the long run by doing stuff like this, it delegitimises legitimate criticisms

You know what everyone everywhere said?

The issue in question is about Hillary insinuating Gabbard was a Russian asset (without ever saying her name) during a podcast which is available online. There’s no reference to Tulsi being a “plant“ in the audio. Also, a plant and asset are two different things.

I am not talking about Hillary. I am talking about what I am talking about. Evidently I was not clear enough as to what I was specifying but I thought the words themselves would indicate what I was addressing, so for my part I apologise if I shod have been clearer. However I also feel like you are inferring a very particular meaning from what I said which is inaccurate. If I wanted to talk about Hillary and the asset stuff I would have said asset or Hillary or both. As you said they are different.

if you felt my original comment was directed at you or something you said it wasn’t. I’m happy to leave this topic here. For the record I also don’t think she’s an asset

I think that's fair. I do think it's fashionable to criticize Tulsi Gabbard and I'm guilty of that too.

All Biden needs to do is get Bernie as his VP and he will waltz into the WH. Combination of Biden and Bernie is no match for Trump and Pence.
He is killing two birds with one stone. Bernie will be tied up as the VP and cannot go rogue while all Bernie supporters will vote for him too.

Not going to happen for two reasons:

1. If Bernie selected as VP, Biden will have to implement some of his ideas and that is something the dems were trying to avoid by making Biden their nominee.

2. Considering that both of them are old feckers, the VP has to be someone younger. It's very unlikely that either of them will be able to complete two terms let alone one.
