I think his scatter-gun approach actually worked okay against China, as Obama's pivot to Asia didn't really help with China's intimation of surrounding countries.I'm not against pressing China on some of the trade issues, but the way he did it was his typical scatter-brain approach and was very disruptive at the time. I know it's small peanuts now, but it was creating a few messes at the time.
Also if the US and China weren't so antagonistic at this time, which I think was also caused by his inflammatory speech on this issue the past 3 years, we might've gotten much better cooperation on figuring out a few more things about this virus back in December/January, before it had really made it's way to the US or Europe. Not that it's reasonable to think that it cold have been prevented, you just know that cooperation has been really poor and wonder how the outcome might be slightly better if that weren't the case.
As for helping with this outbreak, it really wouldn't have helped. China tried to cover it up originally, they're supposed to get on much better with Putin's Russia and the likes of Iran, they are not dealing with it any better.
