2018 US Elections

Well don't forget to tell us their replies :D
I’ve had 3 invitations to church next Sunday.

I asked if we would be learning about Republican Jesus or Real Jesus... then sent them pictures of me sitting at the Sierra Nevada brewery on this fine Sunday with a message that I had better things to do than listen to someone tell me how to read a book.

Exit Polls: How Voting Blocs Have
Shifted From the ’80s to Now

Conclusions:
The gender gap has remained relatively consistent since the 1980s, but it has been widening in recent years.

There was not much of a partisan age gap until the mid-2000s,

Race is the most pronounced partisan difference in how people vote, especially among white and black voters,” said Dr. Schaffner. Latino voters, on the other hand, are a much less homogeneous group.

Lower-income voters remain a core part of the Democratic Party’s base, but this year, the second largest shift left came from voters who make $50,000 to $100,000 annually. The wealthiest voters continue to vote Republican.

Walking the walk!

We all know the Dems are a disappointment in power, but it would be nice if they at least kept the facade going till they actually took their seats and pretend to pass something rather than abandoning it a week after election day.

At least pretend to give a feck.

The DC City Council has 13 members. 11 are Democrats, 1 is an independent, 1 is an independent who used to be a democrat. In June, voters voted in favor of raising the minimum wage with 55% in favor. In October, the aforementioned City Council repealed it, against the will of the voters, before it could go into effect.

These people are not our allies. Democrats will not save us.

Arizona Senate race no longer ‘too close to call’ as Democrat Kyrsten Sinema expands lead to more than 30,000 votes

Not to excited about her win . Like Manchin she's Republican lite.

She’s apparently more left than the campaign she ran. She ran to the centre to give herself a chance of winning. There’s some right wing dick head who infiltrates democratic groups and “exposes” them and he claimed to have a bunch of audio of her campaign that exposed her and her staff as socialists. I mean, he was using it as an insult and probably exaggerating but it gives you a glimmer of hope that she will be closer to 40% than 80% when voting on the GOP agenda.

In the last congress, she voted with Paul Ryan 48% of the time, and with Pelosi 76% of the time. McSally voted with Ryan 88%, with Pelosi 29%. As a bonus, Beto voted with Sinema 80%, with McSally 30%.

That's pretty much spot on. She started off as a social worker and antiwar activist and steadily moderated her views over the years, clearly knowing that her career was headed nowhere in Arizona politics if she stayed on the fringes.

Sinema now 33k ahead. She's won, basically (McSally needs to win the remaining vote by more than 14 points). Another possibly good do is that on the undercard a Dem just took the lead in the AZ Secretary of State race.

Now that Sinema's lead is safer, thought I would throw it out there that I went back home to AZ for 2 days just to vote for her and other Dems on the ticket (haven't opted to get my ballot in mail yet). Was gutted when the initial results came in but now am more relieved than anything. 65% is promising in AZ, turning into a swing state.

Anyone moaning about Sinema not being progressive enough should just think about the cnut she is going to be replacing.

TBH I'm not sure it's possible to win Arizona on any decent platofrm, so that's fine.
It's just something to keep in mind, when the vote for the next Supreme Court justice or expanded healthcare or the Wall comes around - she probably will not vote with the rest of the party on that. So the "win" is purely that a catastrophe was avoided, not that any real progress was made.

Doubt anyone from Dems would dare vote against any kind of good heath care bills.

In fact, that will keep them on seats. Wall is not going to happen for next 2 years. I hope so anyway.

The Dems are anything but unified on the way forward on healthcare so i wouldn't be surprised to see centrist Dems not be on board on single payer or medicare for all type proposals; as they would instead be for Obamacare fixes like reimposing (and strengthening) the individual mandate etc.

Gaining against the Republican majority in the Senate is absolutely a win when you take 2020 into context.

You should read her wiki, She is actually very progressive and I don't see how you can think she favours Wall Street, is against healthcare reforms or any other Trumpian policies. I wish she'd been able to question Kavanaugh given her personal situation.

The kind of person who can win a presidential election!

Not sure where she is on environment, but she's with the Dems on abortion, guns and LGBT rights .Even on tax and business she is more blue than red.

Don’t be surprised to see Sinema’s name get thrown into the 2020 VP mix, especially if someone like Biden looks like he may get the nomination.

I know her past, she repudiated it many times and has a very conservative voting record (fourth most conservative among the 185 Dems). She voted for a bill with wall finding. She explicitly promised during the campaign that she's against Medicare for all and even a public option. Now it'll be nice if she breaks that promise, but usually people break promises in favor of their donors and big money, not for principle (if she has any) or for people's interest.

Have you ever been to Arizona? It's not purple to the point where you can espouse deep progressive principles like single payer and win a general election. It may be that way in a few years due to the demographic shift but not quite there yet. Wouldn't surprise me if she shifted her voting record to the right over the last couple of years to prepare for a senate run. That's why I said take what she says on the campaign trail with a grain of salt. I do believe that when the time comes she will be a reliable Dem vote (i.e. voting no against people like Kavanaugh, stopping Obamacare repeal etc.).
