2018 US Elections

The events of this afternoon prove again why winning the House was crucial and why it should be the focus of Democrats today.

I rather lose governor seats in FL and GA as well as a senate race in TX while gaining control of the House than the other way around.

Apparently it's tradition, and it's fantastic in the details

Even though I also think Pelosi should have take a hike a while ago, her presser was pretty smart - it appears she s trying to align the Dems with the beliefs of Reagan by also saying Trump embodies none of those values. If played correctly it could make some more centrists see that the Rs have indeed gone way too far to the right. If that's not what she intended to do than she sure quoted Reagan unusually often today.

tbf Trump's presser was also strategically smart saying the Democrats should absolutely support Pelosi for Speaker.

theres no chance of that. theyve literally done that for decades now and it hasnt worked

@Redplane
Clinton had the exact same strategy ("Trump isn't a real Republican"), and it failed. It can be interesting to analyse why it failed, but it is a fact that it did.

Many have noted that the Democratic convention last week liberally co-opted traditional Republican iconography. American flags abounded; Democrats name-checked family values, faith, patriotism and the military, all topics traditionally more closely associated with Republicans. Convention organizers recruited Republican speakers to endorse Hillary Clinton.

But Democrats not only paid homage to Republican tropes and leaders. They also expressed great deference to the Republican Party itself, elevating the GOP to idealized heights. In contrast with previous party confabs, this Democratic convention presented Republicans not as enemies to be vanquished but respected rivals undeserving of Trumpian turpitude.

The message for those watching at home: Trump is a pretender to the conservative throne.

“He’s taken the Republican Party a long way, from ‘Morning in America’ to ‘Midnight in America,’ ” Clinton declared in her Thursday night speech, in an unsubtle allusion to the GOP’s patron saint, Ronald Reagan.

The.
Exact.
Same.
Strategy.

Now that's spin - if GOP won the majority in the House what difference does it make if it's a majority of 5 or 15. They control Congress, the Speaker, the Agenda etc. If you think the Democrats won the midterm elections in 1998 you are thoroughly confused.
They ended the midterm with more seats than they began with, so that’s a win.

Even if I concede this point to you, your original point became even more nonsensical, because that means even midterms like 1966 were a win for the incumbent party even as they lost dozens of seats, because they retained control of both chambers.

Just accept that you didn’t know what you were talking about and simply parroting the ‘common wisdom’ perpetuated by the talking heads, and both of us would be better off.

Nelson calls for a recount in Florida and the Guilum race as tightened significantly to.

Possibly. They are the most pointless thing ever (after the goal-line referees).
That's right, people's political opinions can be expressed totally by two parties.

People who complain about the green party are some of the dumbest people around. Even the Republicans dont complain about the libertarians like that.

Yeah vote for the lesser of two evils all the time even if they don't reflect your beliefs and political stance and don't ever moan or bitch when things don't change.

I think we are all fecked tbh. It a just a matter of time innit?

Especially in this case the Green Party candidate in AZ dropped out and endorsed Sinema. It’s just unfortunate that early voting already went on for a while by then.

Yeah. If they arent going to vote for a Democrat then, they are never going to vote for a Democrat. Why is it so hard for these people to understand it?
