It clearly matters to them but it's a bizarre concept nevertheless: religion should not dictate the running of a state, and people who claim they want their state to be one of freedom and liberty are talking out their arse if they believe it should actually be run on the basis of their religion.

The notion of Trump being a Christian in any way, though, is quite hilarious.
I'm simply responding to your question on why would religion matter for someone running a nation, a nation filled with people following several religions!

If I was a person of faith it would absolutely be important for me to know whether the person I'm going to elect would respect my religion, allow me to freely practice it, not enforce any prohibitions on religious grounds against me and so on. The views of a presidential candidate on religion when running a secular nation are absolutely important, without question, for a tremendous amount of it's citizens.

You won't. Your point is?
I don't mean to be condescending and I'm not Christian but from what little I know about Christianity isn't it a peaceful relegion? Turn the other cheek and what not, do you see Trump having those values? Didn't he say he is going to bomb the shite out of Syria?

Thank you for the more considered response than the hordes of keyboard warriors here. An interesting question, yes, and I feel he'd do more to protect the rights of e.g. Christian businesses.

Surely, not all Christians feel the same way. I'm a voting member of a Methodist United church in CT and we are strongly aligned to Democratic party and the candidate.

But they're quite happy for the religious freedom of others to be stamped on.

The politically engaged Christians in America tend to either be old testament nutcases or money grabbing charlatans. Often both.

There are a few things you don't do in life. Being chummy with Glaston one of them :nono:

I'm hardly inviting him out for high tea. I'm asking for him to be a pedantic twat and repost a post he's already reposted about 10 times.

Like I wrote, I'm not talking about anyone in particular, rather the notion of why religious views are an important part for running a secular nation, something that Cheesy seemed to be oblivious towards.

Because you want to elevate those values and characteristics as the best your country has to offer and the ones you want representing you to other countries.

They both have chequered pasts. Neither offers the best.

Make a list....
Actions Trump has taken to protect a Christian value:

Actions Trump has taken that break Christian values:

Knock yourself out

I'm sitting on the toilet and am about to stand up. I don't have time to make such a list. But thank you for your respectful contributions to the discussion with opinions you clearly disagree with.

False equivalence. Something that has been flung around far too much this cycle.

If you're a religious person Trump should be the last person you want as President.

Palms disgustingly sweaty right now. Got Brexit fever.
