2016 US Presidential Elections | Trump Wins

It's still really weird that a figure I first ever saw as a random extra in a Home Alone movie might actually be the President of the US next week. Fecking absurd.

Such a misleading tweet, but that's not surprising.

The FBI agreed with the assessment but declined to have their organization's name attached to the statement that was released.

Considering their jurisdiction this really is a non-starter. Hillary's rabble already getting to work with a revenge based smear campaign against an independent law enforcement agency and Trump is the fascist. :wenger:

Last Sunday, I was spending time with my relatives in New Jersey. They are part of a local church with predominantly South Indian congregation. Most of them immigrants who have claimed citizenship. 90% of the church are voting as a block for Donald Trump and my cousins are probably looking at a probably ostracized in the church community. On the other hand, my church is methodist with a 98% white population and they are strongly Hillary Clinton. I can't make this shit up

I have family and friends in India who love Trump simply because they think he hates Muslims as much as they do.

But not to close too election to announce an investigation into emails that may or may not have anything to do with Clinton .... hmmm.

Surely people should know that an investigation into the activities of one of the candidates may be reopened due to new evidence, or does that only apply to Republicans?

So...did he or did he not say it was too close to the election to release, according to the story?

Come again? Counter-espionage inside the USA is part of their jurisdiction ... the Russians have hacked into government agencies and the Democratic party in a bid to influence the election.

Sorry, I totally didn't get the angle that people are pointing out on twitter there in relation to that, that Russia meddling would probably throw up Trump stuff, probably with the same amount of spuriousness in connecting them as it sounds with the new emails and Hillary. But in one case, the mud was thrown while in the other it wasn't. What an idiot Comey is turning out to look like.

Nobody is saying don't investigate, the problem is coming out and saying there's new evidence, when you've not even looked at what has been found, when 10 days away from a presidential election, is hugely irresponsible. It also flies in the face of DoJ policy, and it now seems he didn't want to do the same thing for something that could have highlighted something that would look bad for Trump.

People are getting all the details from hearsay now. Hillary campaign trying to appear transparent by demanding FBI release details about what they found so far knowing full well that they can't do that. Both sides are filling in the blanks with their own narratives.

Probably would have been better to keep it quiet, then when it does get leaked you can just shrug and say I did not want to say anything publically until we had a chance to investigate the issue. People would still have been pissed off at him, it just would have been different people.

Alright initial data point, probably going to have to wait till the high quality ones come on Wednesday ish before I can stop fretting as much.

There are supposed to be rules governing publicly announcing investigations close to an election that could influence the election result. Moreover, the latest investigation was announced without the FBI even knowing if any of the emails have anything to do Clinton.

That would have been the responsible thing to do, yes.

So...did he or did he not say it was too close to the election to release, according to the story?

You're correct but the information/statement was released by the department of Homeland Security and office of the director of national intelligence. Nowt wrong with him keeping the FBIs name out of that statement.

The tweet suggests that the FBI withheld the information, which isn't remotely true but twitter works on those principles to get gullible types worked up and retweeting.

Now, now Dwazza, that's a very misleading statement, nobody has reopened the investigation, it was never closed. New evidence has come to light that may or may not be pertinent so it has to be investigated. However, what everyone is rightly upset about, or I should say, mainly the Dems are upset about, is the timing of the statement and the ambiguity of the statement and how it was worded as if to implicate Hillary, and this has given the Orange Cheeto something else to rant and rave about. Feck me, you know you are in the wrong when you have Judge Jeanine Pirro ON YOUR SIDE! and making her opening statement on her primetime Fox show all about how unfair to Hillary it was.

Nothing to see here, move along.

So, the DoJ is now working on this with the feds.

This is a shark jumping another shark on a jetski, playing a ukelele while he does so.

You're probably correct but as its the Russians it's unlikely that the FBI would be working this one alone. In fairness to the Russians, they're hacking everything, all the time and this only serves to highlight how dangerously irresponsible the Secretary's actions were.

I see it as a damned if you do/don't situation. Releasing the statement now is a better option than after the election if the emails result in criminal charges. If they don't, the only person who gets hurt is Comey.

He's freakishly tall !!

This whole things has definitely died down a lot over the weekend. CNN is now back to hammering Drumpf for not giving to charity.

Wonder what's left in the tank. This was a very, very big play and I think we were all totally taken aback here on Friday at first. Another big hit to one or the other is surely due in the next 2-3 days.

Not surprised, really. There was no content in Comey's statement, it'll only matter if the Weiner probe comes up with some classified emails.

 line from the Trump surrogates.
Of course people care. He actively ensures he pays no taxes and at the same time bashes half the country as freeloaders and the likes of Obama for paying "low" (21%) taxes.
As far I can remember is legal to deduct our losses when doing taxes like the clintons did, the problem here is the amount he lost compared with the Clintons.

In all honesty I don't know if there would be much value in any more October (or November) surprises at this point. Over 20 million people have already voted and I'm guessing somewhere around 50% of the overall electorate will have voted before election day. Nearly 100% of views on Hillary and Drumpf are already baked in and the only variables now have to do with enthusiasm, groundgame, turnout, and perceived momentum going forward over the next week.
