The unexpected consequences

Back in 1990, Miami group 2 Live Crew was taken to court for obscenity charges on their 1989 album As Nasty As They Wanna Be. According to the New York Times, 2 Live Crew was called into question specifically for their vulgar lyrics and performances, which the prosecutor described as a simulation of "deviant sexual acts." 2 Live Crew also went to the Supreme Court to fight for free speech in their music.

Earlier this week, The Washington Post leaked audio of Republican candidate Donald Trump saying lewd comments in a 2005 interview. Most notably, Trump described his method of assaulting women, advising to "grab 'em by the pussy." Leader of 2 Live Crew Uncle Luke was outraged by the audio and called out the Republican party for their hypocrisy.

In an Instagram video, Uncle Luke questions the "right-wing, conservative Republican party" for choosing to support the misogynistic, violent, and inappropriate Donald Trump. Luke also emphasizes the large expense of his legal battle over obscenity charges and asks for his money back. "I spent millions and millions of dollars dealing with this Republican party?" Uncle Luke asks. "And now your nominee is out there talking about, 'Grab her by the coochie?' I want all my money back!"

Whatever comedy award is available in the US, give it to this guy! Such a briliant account.

I'm spoilering the fun a bit here, but this is a very moving read.

Dan Rather
The headlines of the moment are in the growing roll call of prominent Republicans who are rescinding their support for Donald Trump. But I am left wondering how his candidacy and those who supported, enabled it, and abetted him until now, will be viewed through the long lens of history. It should be noted that many conservative editorial boards and critics have already come out against Trump long before this latest bombshell in very stark terms.

Apparently everyone has a line, and yet do you feel things would be different if all of these politicians thought Trump could still win in November?

And what should we make of all the other groups who have been insulted and marginalized by Trump and yet his supporters stood by him?

He attacked Mexicans as rapists and murderers - but that was not enough.

He called for barring Muslims from entering the country - but that was not enough.

He incited violence in his rallies - but that was not enough.

He publicly mocked the disabled - but that was not enough.

He retweeted anti-Semitic memes - but that was not enough.

He demeaned a Gold Star Family - but that was not enough.

He insulted the press and railed against their Constitutional freedoms - but that was not enough.

He said that those who suffer from PTSD were weak - but that was not enough.

He had a long history of misogynist and sexist comments - but that was not enough.

He repeatedly lied on issues big and small - but that was not enough.

He refused to release his tax records or health records - but that was not enough.

He joked about violence against his political rival - but that was not enough.

I could go on, and I ask you to do so in the comments section. Perhaps we can tag it with #butthatwasnotenough.

I know some equate Donald Trump with Nazisim - that goes too far for me. But in recent hours I have been hearing echoes of the chilling poem by the German anti-Nazi theologian Martin Niemöller about the culpability of his country's elite in the rise of Nazism.

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

America's better nature has always been to speak out for the marginalized and dispossessed. It is an ideal for which we have all too often fallen far short. What about now?

Really wish he's still around to moderate a debate. A true journalist.

Can't fecking wait for this debate. Might be the most interesting presidential debate in history.

It wont be 'presidential' in the slightest but a slur on American politics and democracy.

I'm staggered beyond words that such a man, with such a history, can have gotten so close to the Oval office.

Or maybe its they were all like this and we are now only finding out because of modern day technologies.

Lyndon B Johnson wasn't a nice fella either was he? Not from what I've heard.

Yeah, I agree, but because of Saturday's revelations, I can't help revel in Trump's upcoming downfall. It will be closer to a freak show, I imagine, but compelling nevertheless.

Yeah, I totally agree - its going to be car crash TV never seen before in history. Im personally looking forward to hearing some Bill Clinton stories and seeing how Hilary deals with them.

Clinton is already a highly trained debater and negotiator through her extensive experiences in law courts and the United Nations. Her team will have war gamed every line of question/response scenario possible. If she chooses to, she will morally and intellectually tear him to pieces.

Its clear Trump has deeply misogynist tendencies and he will have made 'pussy' type statements on a regular and unguarded basis. That presents a huge problem as he can have no idea how much more evidence of this nature is out there. Maybe some more will be revealed tonight.

The only question is how much Trump will take the bait. The more he responds the more she will demolish him. Her ultimate prize, if she is clever and has luck will be a Trump melt down with him proclaiming yet more misogynist statements at her.

How does this work? Does money go straight to this person? What if its a clear scam?

The producer of The Celebrity Apprentice is an ardent Drumpf supporter. He had his staffs signed an agreement to pay 5m in damages should they disclose any behind the scenes/hot takes stuff.

Watching Fox news at the moment and they are shitting themselves! Seriously, and the comment that has got them worried the most? Trump saying he couldn't give a feck if the GOP loses its Senate majority. They all obviously do care and are waiting for how Trump handles this.

What's the betting Trump has a complete meltdown and calls Hillary a cnut?

I hope you're right. I know she has a wealth of experience debating and negotiating, but will she be able to stay calm, cool and collected when Trump will accuse her of being an enabler of her husbands actions? Regardless how often she preped for this, I imagine it'll be very difficult.

You should read up on the 90s. This is a walk in the park for her.

Congress Republicans once spent 100 hours and opened a congressional investigation poring over the Clintons' Christmas cards.

She has plenty of skeletons in her own closet (forget about Bill for a minute) for him to go after her on. I was expecting that in the 1st debate but he has to go for it at some point. He only has to cause voters to question her judgement and record.

I'm just all excited. I agree with whoever said this feels like a cup final :D

That was @Grinner. I agree completely, this shit is unreal! I have been waiting for this all day and actually have butterflies in my tummy in anticipation of it all. I hope it's not a massive let down. I just have to keep posting tweets and stuff and flicking between Fox and CNN to pass the time.

We'll all be here with you, all the way :D

She should just laugh when he makes that accusation as it's his assertion without evidence.

Also these are old wounds for her and I'm sure she has emotionally dealt with them years ago.

But you're right, she is still just a human being so who knows?! Will make for compelling viewing

It's been mentioned a lot everywhere, CNN were reporting last night that the Clinton campaign had said the leaks had been doctored, even Fox were conceding that the leaks were not verified and some had been "changed" and "tampered with" when they were talking about them.

Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, insisted that the excerpts had been taken out of context. “There is nothing that she has said in private that she doesn’t say in public,” he told Fox News Sunday.

This again, is as close as we will get to an official confirmation. IIRC you had supported Sanders so I really don't see why any of the things she said are a surprise...the positions on Keystone and regulation are pretty standard Clinton.
I'm repeating myself but if they wanted to discredit her in the eyes of any half-informed leftist who currently plans to vote for her, they would need to do much more and definitely not release an excerpt where she seems to be calling for single-payer.

I assume that's quite easy to pivot.
