You may be overestimating him, I doubt he could spell his own name correctly 10 times in a row.
I think he knows the basic value of immigrant labour, though, being an unapologetic capitalist. I also think he's run a reasonably intelligent campaign, it just happens to be lowest common denominator, vile, racist, shit.

It's not all down to fear. How much of the momentum for anti-immigration is a direct response to the liberal elite trying their hardest to shut down debate?

America, Britain, Germany, France and Scandinavia... same pattern everywhere.

Probably not a lot. I hear a lot of anti immigrant/refugee news every day. Whole world is driven by social media.

Nah, it's fear mongering.

Hillary.. more like Stealary

edit: just checked 538.. 60-40 now .. Trump is gaining in Colorado as well.
The most recent poll has Trump leading in Colorado but 538 still has that going to Hillary.

Who are the liberal elite in the UK? The only elite that have had a say in things in the last few years are far from liberal.

Another similarity to Brexit. Remain lost because they didn't present their own credible argument; they just ridiculed and tried to disprove the other one. And they were mostly right, but that didn't matter to voters.

I think it was rather that what Remain believed to be credible source, no longer held an unimpeachable status with votes. There was also an air of telling people how to think (Obama was a key member of the cast here). And if you didn't shoulder-to-shoulder those superior folks in the establishment, they put you into the following categories: stupid, racist/xenophobic, callous.

Evidently, there would not appear o be transatlantic communication between ivory towers.

They should be sick of who gets us into these messes not those getting us out. The economy turned south during Bush's tenure and we are now heading north again, yet people are blaming Obama. I don't get it.

But how many millions of Americans no longer feel part of that 'us'? The rise of Trump and Sanders notwithstanding, turnout at the last election was well below 60%. If your life is going to be a struggle either way, or your concerns ignored, the shifting macroeconomics will be of less importance.

That is just not true.

I am not deluded enough to expect that anyone would read stuff like that and think about it. I understand that most people simply don´t have the time or interest to do so, which is understandable. Still we continue to discuss these issues on the level of “my side are the good guys, the others are to blame”. Consequently the politicians we end up with are just as ignorant and tribal as we are.

The emphasized Hispanic accents by these two clowns on CNN. Must be in the contract. And one has the audacity to tout Trump as the champion of Latinos.

It´s like it doesn´t really matter anymore. Trump seems to have ushered in this "post-factual" era in presidential politics. Scary to see how well it´s working for him. Almost as if Republican candidates had missed this opportunity for years. Their masses lap this shite right up.

I think it's arguably already been around for a while now. The idea of image and perception being more important than actual policy is nothing new; it's just becoming more and more prevalent unfortunately.

Its weird that neither of the candidates can/have done much to get the votes. The only reason the numbers go up and down is because one of them fecks up.

If Trump can somehow manage to not do anything stupid for the next 7 weeks, it will be really really close.

Same can be said for Hillary not passing out.

Yeah, I see what you mean. More prevalent and more extreme. I think maybe this extremeness really started to become apparent with the reaction to the election of Obama. The birther crap et al.

Haha definitely didn't expect you to be the one 2cents. Having alienated Muslim, black, hispanic and women voters do you really think he is gonna win the swing states he needs? Every American election i can remember came down to who the independents vote for since the two parties are basically united and liverpool fans at this point. I just can't see it personally. Best he could have done is win the Republican primary but i doubt the republicans win a general election for a while.
