2015 Bosman players

I'd take Khedira or M'Vila right about now. Or Rabiot.

If we spend 60 odd million on di maria and 20 mil loan on falcao, we should be expecting the best midfielders, not the bargain basement. Only khedira out of what you mentioned would fit the bill.

So. Chiellini.

I always quite liked him. A proper hard bastard of a defender. Is he any good still? What's his injury record like?
He must be ancient isn't he?

Sergi Roberto has looked a player the few times I've seen him. I'm sure he'll get a new deal if he hasn't already.

Get him in!

Wouldn't be like a Juve player to use us in contract negotiations.

Nah, he definitely lost something at the world cup. A chunk of his shoulder i think.

Seriously, sign him up. He's as good as we're going to get. Pay the money and get him in Jan.

How much would he cost realistically?

Iirc, he can sign a pre-contract in January and we get him free in the summer. But in January it's hard to say. Evra was a first team player in his thirties going the other way and he went for peanuts. With 6 months longer on his deal too. It could be anything between 5-10m imo. But he could be the difference between 4th and 5th.

Has Chiellini said anything that would indicate he isn't going to resign?

Why would he resign? Is there some form of scandal within Juve that he's been caught up in? If there's one thing I learned from Berlusconi it's that those Italians love a bunga bunga party.

I meant re-sign, like sign a new contract. Sorry.

Well feck that. Chellini would have been perfect and a much better option than Roncrete

I'm a big fan of his but to be honest other than Zola I can't recall any Italian doing well in the Prem. Materazzi couldn't cut it at Everton then went on to play hundreds of Series A games, back when Inter were a big team too.

Di Matteo? Di Canio? Pelle is doing good right now

It's telling that it's so long ago that Zola, Di Matteo and Di Canio have all managed in England more recently than played here.

Pelle is the only recent exception, although he wasn't at all suited to Serie A where he was considered a joke so maybe the Prem suits him better. Basically very few Italians succeed here so there must be a reason, are the Prem and Serie A that different?

He is a rugged defender and surely better than a lot that ply their trade in the PL

Just seen Konoplyanka on that list. Would be good signing if we're looking for a couple of wingers to shift to a 4-3-3.

Fabrizio ravanelli did well at Boro and Gianluca vialli was good at Chelsea. There's been a few good 'uns

No thanks, don't fancy trying to spell his name in the match thread every week.

Centre-back: Fabian Schär
Wingers: Karim Bellarabi, Konoplyanka, James Milner
Right-backs: Lichtsteiner, Maxi Pereira

very few italian players come here in their prime - just as very few english players go abroad in their prime - who are the last five successful english players in seria A for example.

Plenty of players who are not english or italian have moved between the leagues though and been very successful so rather than it being a fundamental difference in styles i would suggest it is more that their is a preference amongst italian and english players to stay at home during their peak years - and there are clubs with the financial muscle to make that a reality
