2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi

The temperature in Sochi went way up and caused problems for the people waxing and preparing our skis. The guys who did the first two legs said their skis felt like glue, and the third guy complained as well.

The Norwegians have the largest ski preparing budget by a mile, so I think it's a case of over-complicating things and trying cutting-edge techniques that haven't been sufficiently tested simply because they have the resources to do so, instead of just keeping it simple, which is what all the other countries are doing.

That being said, I think Sweden would have been very difficult to beat, even with good skis.

Watching that interview with Bodie Miller after the final racer was rough.
That interviewer kept probing him for a reaction and she got it - poor guy was overcome with emotion.

Swix blue ultra is all you need!

But the course has been challenging for waxing. I've seen major differences in the teams with their glide wax being much better and seeing them able to speed down the hills. The corn snow has been nasty too because of the heat. So many racers falling over on the fast corners.

The Norwegian waxers should lose their jobs. With those kind of resources it's unforgiveable not to have good enough skis to even compete with the other nations.

Bunch of cnuts the lot of them.

The Olympics are much more fun when we just win everything.

The waxing (which does sound a bit queer) has been a scandal tbf. Not acceptable at all.

Not really sure if the men would have won the relay in any case, as the Swedes are strong as hell. The ladies though would have walked their relay. That said, all in all we are still comfortably ahead of Sweden on the medal statistic overall, and equal when it comes to cross country golds. Still every possibility that the Swedes close that gap though. They are favourites for the sprint relay for women, joint favourites with Russia for the men, favourites on the 30 km and the 50 km and could possibly (for all I know) win the hockey as well.

Swix blue would probably be horrible:) The strange thing is that even the minor nations (cross country wise) like Belarus, USA, Canada etc have had quite good skis. All of the nations except Norway, and perhaps Russia, seem to have had great skis.

The sad truth is that the Norwegian team don't really seem very confident of solving the issue either. They are trying, but admit to being no closer to finding the answer. I think they are just crossing their fingers for a change of weather really.

The men's boardercross has been suspended for a day due to fog.

Sickening.

The ladies was great...lots of wipeouts. I was really hoping that the yank would finally win but still burst out laughing when she pulled defeat from the jaws of victory yet again.

We actually have three XC golds. Bjørgen on the skiathlon and Falla and Hattestad on the sprints. It's the long-distance races after the temperature went up that went to shite for us.

GB women through to the semi finals in the curling, though they somehow managed to lose their last game when 7-4 up with one end to go, meaning they have to play unbeaten Canada instead of Sweden.

Did you lot see that interview with Bode Miller? What an utter bitch! She just kept poking him almost saying 'come on Bode, cry for the camera'.

That's more like it. Twice as many medals as the filthy Swedes and almost 4 times as many golds. Go smoke a pole, söta bror.

Obviously correct. Completely forgot about Bjørgen's gold. Which happens tbf, when you win as many golds as we do.

I like the bits when they all fall over

The finals tend to be less crashy than the semis, but that final was at least a good, proper race.

This is my problem with the Winter Olympics. There's not enough racing/fighting/head on head stuff, and too much time trial/point scoring individual events which, basically, I can watch about 3 or 4 people try before I think "yeah, it's this for 2 more hours isn't it? I've seen this"

Though granted, at least it's not horse dancing.

Actually, they should do that. On ice. I'd watch that.

During one of the semis the Austrian fell over and proceeded to get up without much urgency at all, full of self-pity. I was shouting at him to get a move on because there'd almost certainly be a wipe-out ahead of him. Felt pretty smug when he came 3rd, only to find out he'd been disqualified.

Fun fact. Netherlands have 106 medals from Winter Olympics, 101 of them comes from speed skating. Gold+silver+bronze from today's 10,000m included. Fourth time this Olympics that they took the whole set in an event.

Might as well take the sport out of the games if only one country has any chance of winning at it.

It's not that other countries can't win, they can, and often do -- just not in Sochi. Netherlands brought "just" 7 medals from speed skating events in Vancouver for instance, in Sochi so far 20.

Just fantastic this year, some say it's the suits.

You must love the biathlon, then. Today's event was incredibly exciting, at least if you were Norwegian.

We also took gold and silver in the Nordic combined, which combines "boring individual point scoring events" (although they don't last for very long) with "racing stuff", and that was very exciting too.

Quite remarkable that Holland have taken all their medals in the skating competitions, yet they have more medals than any other country.
