2013 Golf Majors

Another man I'd love to see win although Real, Barca and Nadal are turning me against all things Spanish.

Sergio could of been -5 through 8. Just didn't drop for him twice, unlucky. Fowler -3.....top 5 finish gives me like £80 on £2 for him. Nice to see a Jason Day re-emergence too, of those young rookies, he was pretty hot before his injury(or at least I think he was injured.)

Rory was unlucky with the Bogey there too. Not the first time today the ball has done a lap of the cup before popping out. Nothing worse in the game of golf.

This is one of Garcias best major rounds in an age......he could seriously be -7 through those 10, flawless round so far really. But Amen Corner.....

Sergio is one of the best hitters around, lovely striker of a golf ball. His putting was always his Achilles heel but he's tidied that up hugely in the last year. He's been playing really well, I hope he keeps it up (for obvious reasons! :D)

Thats a massive hole for him right there. The exact type of scenario where he has let himself down here in the past. So many potential great stories. That 14 year old is only *** after 14 holes.

Not that he'll win it but Couples is still quality....

Awesome birdie for Guan, doing a brilliant job so far here.

Bit wounded for Poulter really, but didn't expect a great start here for him.

Sergio on -6 now with four to play. I hope he can maintain this score now and not give away any shots between now and the finish. He's out earlyish tomorrow so has a great chance to really post a good score.

I was getting a bit excited earlier. Had Lynn to be first round leader @100/1!

As the course gets more difficult anyone within 6 or 7 shots of the lead at the end of tomorrow will have a chance.

So for me, I think Snedeker, Garcia, Fowler and probably Day all have a good chance of being in contention on Sunday. All available ~ 40/1 mark too and Paddy Powers are paying 6 places so a decent shout of getting a return I hope. Three of the four have finished in the place money before and the other, Fowler, has shown great progression in his golf game and understanding/comfort of Augusta in his two years in the field. Fingers crossed. :D

All within four shots of the lead after day one. Happy enough with that. Kuchar, one whom I shortlisted but didn't go for in the end, is playing fantastic stuff and on -5. Balls anyway!

Well done to the 14 year old lad, magnificent.

Rory putted so poorly today - it's always been the weakest part of his game and he needs to put in some time on it. The rest of his game held together nicely. If he gets the putter going he could shoot low.

I haven't quite bought the Tiger hype - I still don't see the ruthless, majestic player of before. It's all set for a relative outsider to win it.

Very composed, wasn't he? Great round of golf from him.

As an aside, has any of these child protégés that appear in professional sports at such tender ages ever gone on to dominate their sport? Freddie Adu is one who springs to mind when he was playing professional football aged 14 but he wasn't heard of since. This Guan kid looks the real deal but it's no guarantee he'll be tearing up golf courses for years when he matures.

The kid doesn't even live near a golf course according to the commentary yesterday. 40mins away!!What a natural talent!

McIlroy out in an hour or so - here's hoping he can shoot a 68 to get him into some kind of contention.

Scoring seems to be tough at the minute - loads of bogeys out there.

Aye, there's been a few bogeys alright, but there are still opportunities to make a few biridies too. Immelman has started brightly and is now one of the lead.

Immelman knows his way around there - I'm really surprised he's not had more sustained success in his career actually.

Everyone's favourite 14 year old is even through two, still *** overall.

Anyone fancying a punt in-play should get involved now while the odds are still favourable on some. In Masters history, only Masters legends Woods and Mickelson have won the tournament having been outside the Top 10 after the first round. More emphatically, beyond those two, the furthest any eventual champion came from behind after round one was Charl Schwartzel, who was tied 7th after his opening round. Augusta is not a catch-up golf course and the top of the leaderboard tends to have a familiar look to it from Thursday to Sunday.

There's 23 golfers now within four shots of the lead. Four of them are former Masters champions (Five if you include Mickelson who's just one shot outside this group) and there are at least a half dozen others who are multiple-times champions on the PGA Tour. It still is anybody's tournament really, hence the good value still available on the betting front.

The early tee-offs are at a disadvantage it seems with the weather conditions. The afternoon tee-offs may well miss much of these tough conditions, we'll see.

Looks as though the greens are more challenging today. No where near as much shots stopping on them and a couple bouncing a fair bit on them. Nice to see.

This Guan lad is making me sick. That tee shot to stick it right on the green next to the hole compared with the two he's going round with was brilliant.
