‘Successful’ scenarios for Summer ‘23

We should go for Declan Rice.

He can cover, and play with Casemiro.

Playing with 2 CDMs would be embarrassing. Absolutely no need for it. He could be Casemiro's backup but way too expensive for a backup signing.

Nonsense. We pay 4231, and only have Casemiro and Eriksen as suitable options in the deeper midfield roles.

How is Rice next to Casemiro going to solve any of our problems? He is not an elite passer of the ball or carrier.
Also, which other teams play with 2 CDMs?

Him and Casemiro overlap too much.

He does everything Casemiro does but worse. We need more midfielders of Eriksen's ilk.

We need to sell Dalot, Maguire, Mctominay and bring in replacements for all 3. Loan out Sancho and DVB as I doubt we can sell them. Sabitzer and Wout need to return to their clubs but we need permanent replacements for both. Ideally we’d bring in a new keeper and another striker if possible as well. I’d also bring Amad into the squad as replacement for Sancho.

There are then a number of outgoings that have zero impact on the squad and have no future but help cut costs and raise funds either by being released (Jones and Tianzebe) or sold. Henderson, Williams, Bailly, Telles, Laird and Elanga. Ideally sell all those or loan out if can’t.

Absolutely bang on,we need a partner who compliments him and a cheap backup too

For me:

Osimhen or Toney
Lavia as backup to Case
Sabitzer if cheap
A wide forward like Mitoma

I know a lot have cbs and rbs on their list, but I think the lack of any productivity from any of our forwards bar Rashford is a major issue. Would love Mitoma. Shift Sancho into Bruno's backup.

Ditto an Eriksen replacement would be nice but not many of them around.

Plenty of Eriksen type players around, also I would take Toney off list because still see the book being thrown at him by FA. Unsure who is Erik's preferred choice out of Kane/Osimhen.

Like who for Eriksen type? He's one of the best passing midfielders of his generation for me.

Players like fdj I know but would be 100m + doesn't want to come.

Thinking someone like Barella/Bennacer,outside shout despite his age but free agent in summer would be Kroos albeit 9 years too late

Can't say I know much about Bennacer, Barella I do rate highly but he's probably the last player Inter would want to sell so not likely for under 100m.

Probably the main options are younger ball playing CMs like say the current equivalent to Aouar back when he was hyped, but it's a tough position to play so the step up might not translate. Which is why I'd be happy enough with Lavia + Sabitzer.

I think we need to find someone who offers more on the ball than Sabitzer. We toss away possession with too much ease without Eriksen and that's a huge issue

Madrid often at times have 2 CDMs on the pitch in Camavinga & Tchouameni. Granted one comes off the bench often when they change shape, but it's a squad game.

We need someone who when Casemiro becomes unavailable due to injury or suspension that we don't shite ourselves at having to play.

Tchouameni is the CDM. Camavinga is box-to-box but he often plays as the left back.

I agree we need someone to be Casemiro's backup but he wouldn't want to be on the bench most of the time, and he absolutely wouldn't come cheap. We have a lot more pressing needs than to spend £80m on Casemiro's backup.

The only successful summer scenario is the Glazers fecking off, any other scenario is irrelevant.

News to me. They started quite a few games recently with a midfield of Kroos/Camavinga/Modric, including the CL against Liverpool.

Only one, the most important in our football history is the Glaziers leave immediately, you can not run a club like they have with debt of nearly £1bn …….Enough is enough ! That is the best case scenario for summer 2023 they leave

Good choices but still need a backup DM

Thanks. Ideally we need another striker also as martial made of glass and Weghorst one of the worst in clubs history. Yes a back for Casemiro would be ideal but cant see the club getting one. Why I went for Rice he can do that role and when playing alongside Casemiro he can go box to box and his distribution is not bad as a deep lying playing playmaker. De Jong is the best suited for Ten Hags system but cant see him ever wanting to come here as he loves Barca.

If the reports on ETH losing patience with Jason Sancho are true — I would definitely not be against selling him.

I think the best position for Sancho is as a LW and preferably, he should more or less be the go-to guy for his team offensively. If Rash could adopt to being a striker — sure, we have a big opening for Sancho. But with Rash at LW, it’s absolutely essential that we got a RW who can drop deep, is strong on the ball, and can help us get up field. That is not Sancho. ETH will always prefer Antony there, and anyone who don’t see the reasons for that don’t understand ETHs system to be honest.

But ultimately, I just think Sancho just is too fragile for our side. I think he has improved a lot under ETH, I like the patterns of his play much more now than under Ole, but we really would need to get a much much higher battle level from him. Get him to play with more emotions.

50m of Sancho’s signing is still on the books. He makes — 18m — per season. Three years. I don’t think it would be hard to find teams willing to pay Sancho 10m per. That means that 8m x 3y = 24m from a transfer fee must finance Sancho’s insane wage. Could we get 50m for Sancho? Probably. That mean that we could get 30m for Sancho.

CFC could have big problems signing Joao Felix from ATM given their FFP issues and need for a striker. Nkunku is coming in. Sell Sancho and buy Felix. Felix is more versatile, can play in 4 positions for this team (LW, F9, RW and AMC).

camavinga is such a versatile player tbh can play most roles asked why he is for me best midfield prospect in europe.

Not against this.

Would you be comfortable selling Sancho to a Prem rival though? Realistically struggle to see a team outside the prem having the interest + funds to sign him (apart from maybe PSG if they lose Messi or Neymar).

Yes, wouldn’t hesitate selling him to Tottenham, Newcastle, Villa or a team like that. City? Yeah, but then they got to ant up of course.

I do think he would come to his best for a team like say Villa in a Grealish role, where he can be given much fewer responsibilities without the ball and have a more free role offensively.

A team like PSG paying a bigger sum would of course be perfect.

I mean, I like Sancho. Let’s say Rashford said ‘I had it with England, I am going to Paris’ — I think Sancho could become a tremendous player for us. In a Riyadh Mahrez/Bernardo Silva role on the left side. It’s very important that the winger in that role has a right foot on the left side and left shoot on the right side, because that allows them to meet a pass when we are trying to get up field, and they can still cross a ball if they have a defender pressing them.

In that case, he would get a big role, he would play regularly, have the ball a lot, simply know that he has a spot on the team that suits him perfectly. Get that comfort. And he can become a really good player for a rival of us. It’s just that currently, being a bit of a cameo in different roles, it just seems like it will be hard for him to get the confidence back. And more often than not, we will lack the battle level when we have to turn to him.

Club can't operate without a backup for him that's been shown in games he's been missing

If Everton goes down, someone is getting a really good CM really cheap in Iwobi…

Yeah De Jong can't be budged from Barca, therefore Erik will have to look elsewhere. Maybe then links will increase to the likes of Barella/Bennacer for that number 8 role.

Firstly the outs.. Maguire .. Mctom...DVB... the loan players WW can go back Sabitzer who knows he could be a good squad player .. I'd sell Sancho as well....AWB or Dalot and get another RB in.. some fringe players can go as well... Tuenzabe etc .. squad needs more quality ..

In... 2 CM .. D.. Rice .. and I like A. MCallister.. or Jude Bellingham.. .. and a RB been saying that for years.. Dumfries would be OK.. Striker is Huge one that needs to be right... H . Kane, or Oshimen.. or Ramos.. this all depends on as well if Greenwood comes back in...

The sale of the club will make a difference on transfers..

I'm on the same page as the rest Sancho can be sold, Garnacho and Pellistri can do what he's Been giving... trouble is put him up for Sale and how much would you get..... £50Million ??

Yeah we should take £50m if we can. Then using that on Joao Felix could be a master stroke.

I’d be more confident then going for a slightly cheaper option up top like Hojland as well.

Realistically a new CF and balancing the midfield...

The squad is bloated with 8's and 10's with only one player being able to play at 6. But it shouldn't take 100's of millions to sort out, plus a few outgoings can raise some extra cash.

No wonder we get some much disappointment in this forum in the summer. This is way way way over the top and not realistic in the slightest.

Maybe but keep saying we need absolute minimum of RB,DM (backup) CM & ST. You could even put GK into that too but hard to prioritise it over those. So if I had to choose specific players

RB Frimpong
DM Lavia
CM Mac Allister/Barella
ST Kane

I have no doubt that it's not realistic in terms of numbers but I think for the outs they're reasonable individually. But yeah, I would expect maybe 3-4 sales at most and clearly we aren't going to make that many signings.

Both Barella and Tonali would be elite signings here. But rarely do top Italian players leave Serie A. Another great Italian young player is Davide Frattesi.
