I don't think we'll sign him. Well, at least i'll wait until confirmation that we have then I will worry about this. Not at all convinced by this player

Gundogan herrera
Schneiderlin

What say you.

--------------------Rooney-----------------------
Depay/DI Maria------------------Mata/Di Maria

just infront as well....it'd be like cheating.

Christ. No wonder his back is fecked.

 well done.

Just saw some twitter stuff about Gundogan potentially joining us. I had no idea we were that into him. Obviously there were some reports of interest or whatever but it didn't seem serious. How confident is everyone that he is past his injury issues? If it was pre-injury I would have been all over it. Seems a bit risky (dare I say Hargreaves :nervous:).

I guess nobody is 100% sure about his fitness but he's been fine since returning to Dortmund this season, I should imagine a good pre season under his belt and he will be raring to go next year

Id rather take Gundogan for around £20m than pay the likes of £35m+ for Strootman who is a massive injury risk.

This transfer seems as good as done. Dont know why the mood changed, if the German media is so sure of it, i am too. We have reliable sources telling us this is nearly done. The Engölish media obviously just call United and their sources and they cant tell them anything, while the German guys have different sources that leaked the whole transfer. I cant wait to see our midfield next season and all the other players we will buy

There are only a couple of English journos with a pipeline to United. The others just speak to the PO or see the press releases who always deny everything.

They always report it as united denying it, which strictly speaking is true, but it's completely disingenuous because they know the PO would still deny it even if they knew it was true.

In regards to his long term injury, I'm pretty sure Van Gaal and his staff would have looked into all of this before they tried to sign him.

By getting him early, he'll be able to have a full pre season with us, which will hopefully get his fitness up to the required levels, although like others have mentioned, he's played quite a few games since his return.

Well they also spent last summer trying to buy Vermaelen, possibly the most perma-crocked defender in world football. We were really lucky Arsenal wouldn't sell unless we gave them Smalling. Just imagine how bad our season would have been if we had done that transfer!

I am in the same boat as a lot of people with regardless to this transfer. I loved him pre-injury, great player with a really nice style, he was a big part of why Dortmund were so attractive to watch.

Buying him after such serious injury problems is not the most sensible decision ever, it's a gamble. Maybe it will turn out like RvN and be a fantastic transfer, maybe it will be another Hargreaves disaster. Being positive I think the fact we already have a pretty strong midfield should improve our odds of the former, we are not going to need Gundogan to come straight into the team and play every week, if there's any issue with his fitness or form then we don't have to play him regardless like Dortmund do, we can ease him into the league slowly.

I'm very confident this will be done. Dortmund normally deny a move just before announcing. Ditto for United.

It's a great deal for Dortmund at the moment. But if Gündogan keeps improving (which I think he will) then it'll be great for us too. At his best Gündogan for €30m is a steal.

Sky reporting £21m, for the price it's worth taking the risk with the injury he's had. Cracking player, bring him in, hope the news is true.

Understandable. He doesn't look the same player, and €30m would seem to represent a pretty good deal for them.

They are probably getting Geis in return. Which currently looks to be the better deal and the better player.

The better player for now. Gundogan will rise again and shit all over him.

geis better than gündogan? that's a bit bold. plus one can be in doubt about whether geis' main virtues (long balls and set pieces) are exactly what dortmund are in dire need of. the player is young though, so he can develop.

Wouldn't be too sure. Geis is one of the best talents around in Germany.

This season he's definitely been better than Gündogan. Which is obviously down to Gündogan's lengthy absence. Geis has a lot more to offer than his long balls and set pieces.

He looks like he's doing well post a long lay off, and at £21 million we can't complain. Not many CMs at that price and of his quality out there (not to forget he's only 24). Him and Herrera can be our base for the next 8 or so years

Some people are so far away removed from the reality. If you have been out for over a year with a serious injury it'll probably take a good 6 months or so to regain any where near your best form.

Love the idea of those two in midfield, with Carrick behind them.

Found this on RAWk

Sport 1 saying it's a done deal. 26m Euros up front, 3.5m conditionally.

Gundogan signing an £80.000 p/w contract.

€26m = £18.6 pound and with £80k a week (Cleverly's wage) that is a fine gamble, even worse case he plays as good as he has been all season he'll be fine midfield depth for the CL. However I have full confidence this move along with our style with reignite his spark.

Or not at all if the injury has had a permanent debilitating effect. Remember that at the highest level of sport it only has to be fractional reduction to put you off the pace.

I think this transfer shows our financial might. Taking a £20 mollion punt on a player that could be class or could be a crock. I expect us to do a lot this summer if we get CL football. The rest of the league should be worried. Still expect Depay, CB, RB and another CM. and probably a new GK as well sadly....

EDIT: and i would expect this to be one of our cheaper deals as well.

Is he finished in your eyes?
finished? hopefully not, the lad is only 24. but he hasn't been a crucial player as of late (which nuri sahin is) and anything near €30m can easily be seen as a significantly greater amount of money than anyone could expect at that point. he's been bound to leave for quite some time, so...

I'm really hoping this is true. He'd be such a good signing.

A Carrick, Blind, Herrera, Gundogan, Fellaini midfield would set us up very well going into the new season.

Depending on the level of talent, the reduction might still be not that bad.

Fat Ronaldo even after all those injuries was one of the top 3 strikers in the world when he played for Madrid.

Sahin? Crucial this season? What?

Geiss was also one of the best tacklers last season, averaging 3 per game. Still a fair amount this season at 2.1

Either is winning the ball quite a lot more often than Gundogan has been

with sahin they win. without him, not so much. in numbers: with sahin they gain two points per game on average, without him: one. make of that what you wish.

i also wish gündogan all the best at his new club (given that a deal is in the making) and i do not intend to talk him down. cheers.

So is this as on as yesterday, or have the English journos shat all over it?

Geis is a great talent, but nothing more. He never showed anything close to what Gündogan showed in the past. Its also a completely different thing to perform for Mainz and to perform for a CL-club. The whole comparison is weird, because they are not the same type of player.

The gamble with Gündogan is, if he permanently lost something due to his injury or not. The gamble with Geis is, if he can actually perform for a top club. He is a talent and even top talents fail on a regular basis.

True. But arguably playing up front is where you can get away with it the most. Midfield might be the worst position to lose a step.

Well that would be a good deal, all things considered.
