Ángel Di María | Transferred to PSG

OK so I haven't followed this thread (or the saga really), but can anyone give me a quick run down of what is going on? Is he actually AWOL? Or do we know where he is? Is he in Manchester/Argentina? Is it an official strike from ADM? How much does everyone hate him right now?
Put simply.....he is a cnut

I am referring to Beckham 25m move to Real or the 10m fee paid by the same club for RVN. Not to forget the numerous players we allowed to go for next to nothing because 'they were servants' of the club (P Neville, OShea etc). Losing 15m from the ADM deal is also ridiculous in its own way. We overspent on him who used us as a stepping stone to PSG.

We are great in terms of merchandising and all but unfortunately we're extremely naive in terms of transfers. For example I can't think of many clubs who would allow their best player to reach his last year of contract without selling him first.
So we should have sold DDG cause he refused to sign a contract?

What you're not factoring in to that is that his assists probably got us 4th place. We may lose 15 million but in reality we've made more. Plus we've been able to attract the talent we have this summer.

In a way Falcao was a worse move. I want rid of De Maria, he's a wanker.

And on DDG – the club didn't 'allow him' to not sign a contract. DDG just wouldn't. They can't force him to. So I don't really understand how you can hold that view.

I didn't agree a few months ago, but I've changed my mind. I think any player that won't sign an extension and is about to have less than 2 years left on their contract should be placed on the market and sold for the right price.

There are only a few major reasons why somebody wouldn't extend:
- he's not happy enough in Manchester
- he'd rather play for a different club
- he thinks he's underpaid
- he does what other people tell him to

I don't think anybody can complain about not being paid very, very well by us. So anyone who isn't committed enough or is too greedy can leave imo.

I honestly hope he has a miserable time at PSG, but it's wishful thinking. I hope the club has learned it's lesson. No more fecking Madrid rejects.

yeah but if we sold him it would have been an uproar and who knows maybe we wouldnt have got 4th place.

The thing is, you won't get the 'right price' anyway then because you're setting in stone that the player wants to go.

It's always a balancing act.

But looked at objectively it's DDG who's created this situation. I think trying to blame the club is inaccurate.

I much doubt it tbh. If we didn't brought Di Maria we would have brought someone else. Maybe someone who actually give a damn about the club

And yes players can be forced out of a club. It happens all the time

You can't be sure of that. I want him out for the same reason as you, but I just don't think there's any point beating ourselves up over the money when you could reasonably argue he helped get us 4th and push on.

In hindsight I agree with DdG's situation. I'm pleased we still have him and I'd like him to stay this season.

We would have probably got 40m for him which would have been added to the 60m wasted on ADM. God knows which players we would have signed with that money

But the player does want to go. A player worth keeping would definitely get a payrise for extending. Waiting before extending just means he'll be looking for something better.
Add release clauses to ensure he can leave if the right price is met and I wouldn't know any reason for him not to extend.

I'm not blaming the club as such. It's the way it is. But I hope we adapt to the situation and find ways to prevent these situations in the future.

The club tried to get him to extend, for huge wages, and he wouldn't.

This is obviously because of his personal situation and that he's been talking to Madrid. Madrid being as they are, and knowing his missus wanted to return home, probably said 'we won't pay 40 million. Refuse to re-sign and we can do the deal'.

I know, but I'd like us to have control over how we deal with his neglection. I'd like us to have enough time and therefore leverage to find a decent replacement and still get a top price for him.
Waiting and hoping leads to us getting neither.

See my edit. I don't think it was down to us 'waiting and hoping'

Why does he have to do all this unprofessional AWOL shit anyway?

By my understanding, the club was perfectly happy to let him go as soon as the appropriate bid comes in before he started behaving this way.

I just knew, the moment I saw him at Old Trafford being photographed at OT having been signed that he wasn't excited. Just something about his look/body language. Just had a feeling he would disappoint, not be arsed...

Luckily we didn't take this short sighted approach with Pereira and Januzaj.

It'll be interesting to hear what LVG has to say once he's sold.

Yes, you could see in the matches too. No real affinity with the crowd, no connection.

There's something wrong with him.

Ronaldo is the only player who has stayed with us while wanting out and performed highly.. Cant see that most would, id prefer to sell any player that doesnt want to be unless theyre special, a player like DDG or Ronaldo that would make the world XI, Di maria is just under that, coupled with his latest unprofessional behaviour, i cant wait to see the back of him.

I honestly thing other clubs take the piss out of United because we're so bad at negotiating fees. Clubs must love dealing with us.

I think that's a little unfair, we're simply not often in the position of power with transfers.

We get fleeced when we need to get rid of a player but that's expected. It's also expected that clubs will expect us to stump up a greater fee when we do identify a special talent unless said player is nearing the end of their contract.

Something about him put me off before he joined. Can't stand those cringe worthy heart-shaped gesture celebrating idiots. But he grew on me over the last season and he is for sure one of our most talented players. Going back to disliking him will be easy for me though. I just have to picture him grinning with his thumbs and index fingers shaped to a heart and the job is done.

I hope we punish him somehow. Maybe let PSG have him in winter transfer window and until then keep him in the reserves and play him in the ugliest weather only.

Some of these figure are making us look incredible weak in the transfer market. From what is being reported, Di Maria is going to be getting 200k after tax., Yet we are selling him at a 16m loss.. We should be getting back all what we paid from these feckers. Just because he has not settled and has gone AWOL should not reduce his value, plus the fact PSG were going to match the same price last year for him had it not been for FFP. Di Maria is going to be their star player, he will tear up the French league.

Annoys me how crap we are at selling players, just because we have a massive revenue, its easy to take these 'hits'.

There's a lot of bitter and angry people in here lately. It didn't work out, no one owes anyone anything, he was only here for less than a year. It's not like we're losing a Ronaldo all over again.

I just want this deal to be done. I'm tired of reading about it and it's not exactly good for our preseason preparation.

Usually I'm not bothered about how much the club gets for a player, but if we do take a significant hit on Di Maria this summer then it'll be extremely frustrating. They've got their restrictions removed and they're obviously intent on chasing him so accepting 60m euro would be pretty daft and would make the club look weak. I really hope that we hang onto him and show that we aren't going to give up on hom after one season.
I don't think it makes us look weak. If anything it shows we're ruthless.

We have a player who was poor last season and didn't look as though he was interested. He was probably made very aware that he had to start performing or he would be moved on. He decided he doesn't want to fight to stay and chose the easy option of moving on. Now we're at a point where we have a player we want to sell who has been poor since leaving Madrid and luckily we have a team that wants to buy for what we feel is an acceptable market price for him. We're selling because we want to not the other way around. If it were the case we'd of sold De Gea to Madrid for €18m or whatever it was.

All in all, the PSG deal suits all parties, everyone's happy, we all move on.

His value fell because he was cack last season. I'm amazed we're getting as much as is being reported.
