Ángel Di María | Transferred to PSG

They've taken the british record trasnfer fee signing after a year for a reduced fee than we paid.

Okay yes there are details but on the surface that looks like bullying 101 or at least doing a club's shopping for them.

You don't know what bullying is.

Once the De Gea situation is over and done with, we need to tell Mendes to go and feck himself with a broom handle. The man's a fecking pest.
Thing with Mendes is he's your gateway to many of the best Latin and South American players. Problem is some of them seem more trouble than they're worth.

Don't understand the rage about him joining PSG.

His options in terms of clubs that can afford the fee and wages are limited. United wouldn't sell him to another English club, Madrid got rid of him in the first place. If Barcelona or Bayern don't make any bids for him then PSG are clearly the best option. They are one of the top 10 teams in the world and have been able to attract the best players for years now.

Point is, from a professional footballing perspective, he shouldn't want to leave us for PSG. It is a massive downgrade in competition is the French league.

Anyways, all of last year I thought he was lacking confidence. That he needed some support. That he needed time. Now, it just seems like I'm all wrong and that he just didn't care and wanted to leave.

So much emotion in this thread

I don't really care he wasn't involved enough to become part of the United family in my eyes.
He's an employee if his situation means he needs to move elsewhere then so be it. Not like it's going to affect our future investments.

Blame Di Maria if you want but Mendes has nothing to do with the Di Maria problem.

Everything else aside, it's pretty unprofessional of him not to get on that plane.

The anger stems from us spending a ton of money on a player and now selling him at a loss after he didn't even really try to perform to his best for us.

So what. We over payed for him in the first place, if anything Real Madrid bullied us last year.

I think the CL is more important for a lot of players now than their domestic leagues. Luiz left England for PSG, Moura rejected us to sign with them, they bought Ibrahimovic, Silva and Veratti from Italy and that is still a bigger league than France. Look at all the players who have signed for CL clubs in Turkey in recent windows instead of mid-table teams in bigger leagues.

He's shown himself to be a little bitch tbh. He looked mentally weak last season. His willingness to wave the white flag and capitulate should go down well in France.

His mucky paws will be in this somewhere.

So you will blame him for representing his client? Like Real Madrid he is losing money here, 15m of bonuses are disappearing. I understand when people blame Mendes for Falcao to Monaco, but here I don't.

We should have done that a long time ago and saved ourselves a fortune. We have been too close to him for too long and he has gained from the relationship while we have lost.

I genuinely hate this type of remarks.

I think it doesn't feel right losing a world class player after only giving him one year when we know he has the ability for so much more. I'll be honest though, with us having sorted out our central midfield, I'm slightly less concerned. But feel sad if he goes that he didn't get a chance to showcase his talent with a bit more stable midfield behind him. Creativity and directness is something we've lacked past few years so he will be a big miss, so hope we do get someone of exceptional attacking quality as a replacement.

Bailing at the first chance lines up pretty well with what we saw when he got injured and knocked out of the first XI.

Sucks but atleast we aren't losing too much on the deal.

Way I see it, he either:
  1. Didn't have the hunger/fight to make something of himself at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
  2. Was only ever in it for the money.
Either way, like many others on here, I don't want him at the club if he doesn't want/isn't prepared to be here. Hopefully we recoup most of the £60m...

Couldn't care less anymore. He isn't that determined to succeed at United. Tbf I think the burglary is a bigger issue than some may think, his wife and children may feel very unsettled.

If we sell Di Maria for around 50m, with both Nani and RVP also sold we would go close to a net spend of 10m. Glazernomics? :smirk:

Frank Lampard lost his mum late in the season back in 2008. He never missed a game or dropped his performances in the run in.Some players deal with adversity better than others.

Turkey issue is a bit different as we are not a mid table team who are unlikely to ever win anything.

As for the other PSG signings, valid point to a certain extent.

Don't want to get into the deep stuff, but they are two very different things...

Both adversity, sure. But losing a mother who has likely supported you and been there for you as you developed into a great footballer is much more something that is likely to galvanise you - "doing it for her" type of situation. Burglary is very different.

Anyway like I said rather not get into it.

In principle I agree that regardless of burglary, the attitude just wasn't there and that particularly disappoints me more than anything.

Very different scenarios though. Feeling safe and mourning are two very different things but I get where you're coming from. I wouldn't be surprised if adm's wife insisted on this move to psg.

He would need to come out and say that.

If ADM wasn't built like a 12 year old girl, then maybe he wouldn't have to move cities and countries every time someone rattled on his window. Mincer.

Don't want to slate him here for respect but I can't help but feel disappointed, given all our expectations for him. It's ended too quickly, if he'd tried he could've kicked on this season for us.

How much did we actually pay for ADM? I know the total was £59.7m but was that straight up cash or depending on Bonus payments if targets are met by the player? Seems the money being offered to us might not be so bad if Real Madrid lose out on a few £££ themselves.

3. He didn't want to leave Madrid in the first place and didn't want to move to Manchester but was ultimately forced to go there as they were the only ones willing to pay that much. While there he had a very unhappy time there both professionally and personally, in part due to a variety of external factors which he had limited control over, and ultimately it became very clear that he was unsuited to being there on almost every level.

Not wanting to be here is not the same as not having hunger and fight. There's nothing wrong with knowing what you want in life and taking the necessary steps to get there. I get that as United fans we have an obligation to defend our team and criticise anyone who "disrespects" the team but these players have real lives and make real life decisions.

We all know you do... Location: France :)

It's not about France, it's about hundreds of thousands of people who fought in the resistance, who supported the armies and protected jews, French laugh about everything but here it's a stupid statement that is widely used on the internet.

I was waiting for someone to say this. It has been said in older post but I do think he was impacted by that and so was his family. The over the top vitriol on this player is to much. It's a game and he he thinks that life will be better in France for him and his family then let's part ways with him and to it with class.
