Ángel Di María | Transferred to PSG

Funny enough, the only line that kind of says Di Maria wants to come back, is the one everyone is ignoring. LVG says 'He has said to me that he shall come on the 25th'. I pretty much guarantee that line will not be in any reports tomorrow.

The "it's a process" line is what everyone is going to focus on.

That could mean they are trying to engineer his exit or it might be that di Maria wants to assurances he'll get more game time next year in light of the interest from PSG and Bayern.

Fecking hope he stays.

It does seem like the odds on him staying at OT are slim, if we lined up another winger like reus or Lucas moura it should not really impact us.

If adm wants to go, then let him go.

He made it sound like we wanted him to stay, and was planning on him staying. But also left it open that he could go if he wants out himself.

If LvG said, 'Di Marias's a fifth wheel and I have no use for him' it would grossly depress his value. Ed Woodward would cut off his b**ls.

He will probably be sold, it's logical to assume he doesn't fancy it here and wants to go. If he wanted to stay and he told LvG that he doesn't have any problems then we wouldn't have heard those comments today.

Di Maria has been linked away from us since he signed. I can't remember a player linked away as much in his first year. It would be absurd to argue the quality of Di Maria, he's world class. It was a difficult year for him settling in, house being burgled, new culture ect. We set him up to be our main man, number 7, record signing and huge wages. He has spoken too much to the media for me. LVG in his press conference didn't sound positive about the situation. I would be surprised if he is playing with us next season. It's very disappointing to be honest, he just hasn't settled and has gave away the ball to often. He had a bad season by his high standards and still got an impressive amount of assists. I have reached the point now were it's like this. If you don't want to be at United, feck off. We lost Ronaldo and we recovered, we will do it again. I want players that want to be here and want to fight for there place. Players like Herrera and Mata for example. They fought there way back into the team at end of last season, never moaning or complaining. I want competition and professionalism through the team. Sick of players like Falcao and Di Maria coming to the club with a sense of entitlement for a starting place. You play your way into the team by good training and performances, not reputation. Di Maria had enough opportunities last season, he was kept out by Young in the end. A player with less quality but with more hunger and determination. Competition is healthy for any team. Di Maria let us down in my opinion against Arsenal(FA cup). He was suspended and we went on a great run without him. If he doesn't want to stay, ship him out now and bring in someone new. Either suck PSG dry and get a player or temp Bayern to sell to us again. LVG has balls and won't tolerate nonsense, we are in a strong position regarding Di Maria. If he is unwilling to play the LVG way, then ship him out.

Good substantial post. But you should consider the virtues of the paragraph.

The upcoming season will be crucial to his future but United are about to bring Otamendi, Romero maybe even Ramos and he'll have plenty old friends around him to help him fully settle and vice versa.

Agreed with all of this. I love Di Maria as a player, but we have to remember we played our best football with him out of the squad. Our signings this year show we're going for talented players who fit our system, who will fight for their position and want to play for Manchester United.

As much as I still hope he’ll stay, you make some decent points. There’s a bit of a vibe that he just hasn’t managed to settle at all, and while the stories could be bullshit, it’s strange to see someone who remains fairly new being linked away from us.

Despite that though, I’m still not sure that we’ll sell. I don’t think that anyone is going to be willing to pay £50m+ for him, but at the same time I don’t think it makes sense for us to sell him for a lot less below what we bought him for. For all we know, he could produce again next season, and if that’s the case then there’s really no reason that we should sell him unless we’re getting a superb offer, which I find unlikely to happen.

I still hope that he could turn out to be a success here. I’m not sure he’ll remain for longer than 3 or 4 years, but I’d still be surprised if we sell this summer. To me, no one really benefits if we do.

The thing is given how blunt LvG was regarding Valdes that if there was no truth in Di Maria being sold LvG would have said so directly, instead he trotted out the "It's a process" line and then added that he's still planning with him for now, I think that much like De Gea, if PSG or Bayern offer what we want, he'll be sold.

I think psg would happily pay £50m for him, they paid 50m for David Luiz and they really seem to want adm.

LVG certainly didn't make it seem like we were determined to keep him here. You get the idea that if we got a good offer we'd let him leave. Who knows though.

As much as I'd like him to stay at present he wouldn't make my starting XI nor do I really see a need to replace him if he does go, we have more than enough options in his position with Mata, Januzaj, Young and Depay

Hardly 4 options that look like league winning quality imo. We need an in form Di Maria (or quality replacement) if we're to win the league.

I get the sense that LVG would be pleased enough if Di Maria stays but, provided a good deal can be struck, wouldn't lose any sleep if he goes. At this point, the club will clearly know what the player wants (which is likely a one way ticket to Paris). I wonder if the talk of a "process" has less to do with a transfer fee than it does with players who might come the other way. The two clubs most heavily linked with Di Maria have been PSG and Bayern Munich, both of whom have players we likely covet. From PSG, I'm sure we'd be interested in Cavani, Moura, and Marquinos, to name a few. From Bayern, Muller and Lewandowski would be obvious targets. If we're attempting to leverage De Gea to secure Ramos, does it stand to reason that we would be doing the same with Di Maria? I don't see why not. In fact, we'd be in an even stronger position given that Di Maria is on a long term contract. The proceeds from a sale would mean less to the club than quality players.

I got the impression its down to DiMaria. "he told me he would be here 25th july" isn't a player being told not wanted

I hope this doesn't turn out to be a mess for us. If he's leaving we need to get a top player in and in that case I hope it's not left too late.

Going from LvG quotes it seems Di Maria is being sold subject or an offer has been accepted otherwise he'd answer the question in very differently.

Not sure if van Gaal's answer really implied anything, I still can't see Di Maria leaving but I guess it's not impossible.

I would be surprised if PSG can afford 85m Euro or that Bayern are willing to. Di Maria would also have to take a massive paycut and I'm not sure how much of a hit the club would be prepared to take on their record signing of 85m with a 4 year contract. Van Gaal said he's planning with him and Di Maria said to him that he will join on the 25th, that to me implies as long if no club is willing to pay he will stay regardless.

PSG are still limitted and have to break even this year (no more out than coming in) so they would have to sell one of their players to fund Di Maria.

I'm just hoping we sign a proper replacement if he does go. Our creativity was rubbish last season, and we need a technical dribbler, badly.

Yes.

Despite having a poor season, Di Maria still looked a player most likely to create something special. I'm not sure that make any sense, but that's how I felt.

Seems it would be difficult for PSG to put together an acceptable financial package given the exchange rate, even with FFP easing up. Isn't he also one of our highest wage earners as well?

1. Rooney
2. ...AdM?

There's nothing to recover from if he goes - did you not watch him last season? If he goes, it didn't work out, big deal. Move on. And we will.

I am still retaining hope he will stay. When he joins squad on 25th as expected, I hope the Spanish/Latin contingent will talk with him, LvG will talk with him and assure he is still key to us. Thought he wasn't at his best in later half of last season, in first half of season he showed his qualities and it is not easy replacing someone like him. Even if we get a big name player, again there might be 'adjusting to PL' time.

Was a fan of Di Maria even before he came to United. Also knew that he put in inconsistent performances when he was with Real Madrid, but his performances in the 2nd half of the season totally put me off. If he does not want to be here, better get rid of him as soon as possible, no matter how could he may become. Get some other player who would love to be here, playing for a club like United.

We need players with the kind of X factor that DiMaria has, but i cant help feeling that he doesnt fit in.

What a confidence boost this must be for Young (not that he needed it based on last seasons performances)

Last season
We signing ADM yay yay "that's the writing on the wall for you young."
Young: Bring it! I'm still here, I'm not going anywhere, I'm still here.

He's gone. Get the feeling he never wanted to be here and to think people were offended at the possibility of him leaving not a few hours ago. 40m and Lucas would be an excellent deal for us.

I have defender ADM throughout the entire season and I still believe he's a great player. Having said that if he doesn't want to remain at OT than he better leave. We can get 40-50m for him which should be invested on a quality striker and a goalscoring right winger

That's how I feel. It seems to be about him and his wife wanting to leave. In that case I reckon Lvg will try to drill some sense into him and failing that sell him.

Only thing I'd disagree with is the goals goal scoring winger bit. We do have players who can score. Rooney can score. Mata is a quality finisher. Depay can score. The striker we get will be able to score. But what we really need is a world class dribbler who can open the game up. We simply have too few of them and top many players who will play the sideways pass instead of taking defenders out of the game.

If he doesn't want to stay then show him the door, honestly, the similarities between Di Maria and Nani doesn't end in playing style, both come across as mentally frail. You had just had a first season in a new league that didn't town out as good as you wanted, as a top player, you should be more than determined to put things right, not look for the easy way out. I believe that United and LVG would want to keep him but want him to show the same commitment or even more. If he's not showing that then it says more about him.

He was absolutely rubbish at the end of last season. Absolutely rubbish.

If we can replace him let's do it. As far as I'm concerned you're only as good as you are in a United shirt, nothing else matters and he was awful for a good six months.

If we are aiming for a 4-3-3 system than we need our wingers to score goals and compensate for the lack of another striker upfront. We've got the LF sorted with Depay. Now we need to sort the RF role

Your golden boy was absolutely rubbish for 2 and a half years and you still wanted him here. I'd only want him to go if we can bring in Reus. That's it.

If we could Lucas in return + 30-40m I think it would be an excellent deal.

I think he offers a lot of the same qualities but his best seems to be from wide right without Di Maria's production.

Depends on how we line up I guess. Mata could play where Fellaini did and score plenty of goals making Rooney, Mata and Depay goalscorers. In truth we probably need someone who gives us both.

I can honestly say in all my time watching United I've not seen worst performances from anyone for such a consistent period as Di Maria and Falcao at the end of last season.
