Have you ever been to Paris? Because I've lived there, 90% of it is horrible, just obnoxious English-speakers, McDonalds and rain.

Being close to Spain is irrelevant seeming as he is not actually Spanish, and the distance from other European cities is much more heavily influenced by where his house will be in relation to the airport than its whereabouts on the world map.

Been there 4 times. Love the city. I'm just saying to many not from the UK its a more likeable city than Manchester however wrong or right that is. I've also been to the pick pocket heaven that is Barcelona....

We're going to end up with one of the least creative squads and also completely toothless attack if we end up swapping AdM for the godawful Cavani.

This... This can't be happening, surely? :(

He said himself that he wanted to stay, why would he come out and say that if he wanted to leave? It would only make it more difficult for his departure as United would be perceived as pushing out their record signing after just one year :wenger: I really don't get this if it's true, and I don't believe it is.

"Manchester United is my home," Ronaldo added. "My heart is here. This is where I want to play. The boss believes in this team and so do I. Ever since I joined United, he has been like a second father to me. People are still going to speak and make things up. But this is where I want to play. Manchester United is now my house."

"United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player," read a statement from the Old Trafford club.

It added the decision came at the 24-year-old winger's request after he "again expressed his desire to leave".

These interviews mean feck all about the players' desires, sadly. I was happy to read the Di Maria interview from a couple of months back, but it really doesn't always reflect the player's true feelings and desires. You can't really expect him to come out and say he wants to leave, creating a potential risk of a fans backlash if a move doesn't materializes.

Not changing my opinion, I'd be very surprised to see him leave after a season. I'd be even more surprised that a club is willing to pay our demands for him, which surely won't be less than 85m Euro (so we break even). PSG have been daft in the past with their fee for David Luiz, I assume they would've learned by now and not spend their entire budget on 1 player when they also need to replace Thiago Motta and Rabiot. Not sure how they would afford his wages either unless Di Maria wants out that desperately that he's willing to take a paycut.

We're already having to bed in 4 new players which could increase to 8 players if we also need to replace Di Maria and de Gea on top of a striker and CB. I doubt van Gaal would want another transitional season like that.

Too much sense in one post.

If he goes, I won't cry. He will leave because his heart is not in it and he's not happy in England.
And if he doesn't want to be here be will be as useful to us as Sterling would have been to Liverpool if they tried to keep him against his will - in short, not very.
Also, plenty of people saying he is this that and the other based on what he produced at Real Madrid.
While valid to an extent, if he's not happy here he won't come anywhere close to producing that.
I'd rather judge him and contemplate what he might produce next year based on what he did last year.
And first few games aside it wasn't great.
His output/influence was okay at best overall but not irreplaceable I don't think.
We surely won't get as big a name player if he goes but may get someone who can produce more.

so the French media tries to learn and apply a famous guideline by a German propaganda chief?

Fair enough, that still doesn't change the fact that most of this has been coming from French media that is not very reliable (the French Goal if I am not mistaken). That also does not address the view of those that would be happy to see him go, quite frankly that is a little crazy. The guy has only been here a year and has shown he is of the highest quality prior to last season, give him a chance.

If we let him go I'm lost for Words. We need a player like him to challange for the title.

The players we have strenghten our central midfield with has to me been a signal that we are looking to give more freedom to an attacking three. If we sell a player like Di Maria it will be a bit of a Waste, because there is no player out there that we can get that will be able to replace him. Shooting ourself in the foot if this is true.

I really hope it's not, it just can't be.

Think you are wrong on this one. LvG misjudged him and he knows it. He will take a hit, learn from it and spend the money we get back wiser. He thought di Maria was a Robben (I did too), but he really isnt.

Did not Louis van Gaal state that his wingers are strikers? di Maria is a playmaker.

So now that we're not selling him, feels like a new signing :)

Yeah, I don't want us to sell him. We can't just offload a world class player after just one season at the club, but all these reports from generally reliable French sources are a bit worrying and make you think. I was convinced that we weren't selling him, but I've started to have some doubts, even though it doesn't make much sense.

Hopefully Woody continues the good job if Di Maria is pushing for a transfer away from the club and makes things for PSG as difficult as possible. Hopefully we'd have a plan as well.

Di Maria in 2009 as a teenage prospect.

Since I was 13 or 14 years old, I’ve been telling my mother and my father that my dream is to play some day for Manchester United. “And I won’t stop till I get it.

“When I watch [Wayne] Rooney and all of them on TV, I can’t wait to play there at Old Trafford.

“When I was a little boy I watched Arsenal games as well, but Manchester United always dazzled me most.”

Di Maria was 21 in 2009:lol:

Sell ADM and get Cavani:confused:
Seems to me Cavani and his agent have been encouraging the rumours of him to us from last season if not before. Do Not Want Him.
Also, I can't imagine a professional like Di Maria leaving after one season without wanting to try and prove his doubters wrong this coming season?? Hope this rumour dies Soon!

Has anyone posted the Barney Ronay article about him yet?

The French newspaper Le Parisien reported this week that Ángel Di María already has “one foot in Paris”. For those who watched Di María play for Manchester United through the winter and spring it may be tempting to wonder about the location of the other foot. Where could it be? Also in Paris but lost on the Métro? Back in Manchester overhitting yet another in-swinging cross? Or simply scuttling off down one of those familiar blind alleys, before eventually falling over and turning to remonstrate with some unspecified adversary, eyes wide, hair prickling up, looking like a very sad, wise, hyper-evolved squirrel forced to confront the basic futility of its own existence while being jeered at by youths in quilted sports jackets.

That last sentence is inspired.

ADM was very inconsistent player last season. But that's also as a result of his team mates. In Real he used to play with 'faster' players. They would make runs, create spaces and played direct attacking football. In United it was all too static. He tried to do all by himself at times, and the result was obvious.

I heard people mentioned the following names - Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Mata and Blind. *None* of them can run past a player like he does, nor can anyone dribble like him. He will never be as consistent as them, but none of them can do what he does.

Every top team needs to have creative players, players who can beat a defender (say Hazard, Neymar etc.,). None of the above players are of this type. I don't see how United can beat top teams consistently without a real explosive player; ideally you would want more than 1 such player in the team.

Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Mata and Blind - all too 'safe' players for me, too predictable and regimented.

You wouldn't expect pace and dribbling from midfielders though as it's not their role on the team, except for maybe Mata who plays in a more advanced position and is rather skillful albeit not that quick. Young has some skills and pace, Rooney not so much anymore, but definitely Memphis who's just been signed.

Januzaj as well, who I forgot.

I was a little worried too but I just can't see us selling him only one year on. He'll come good hopefully and help us win some new bright and shiny silverware

Bollocks he misjudged him. Look at his first few games. Thats the player we bought. One of the best on the planet.

Since we're in the season where muppet dreams come true, I'd like Reus if we got rid of Di Maria. Surely the talks of Liverpool getting Reus are not true?

Looking like there might be something in this. Would be very strange if we sold him already, and even stranger if we did it for a loss. Reasonably it can only be the result of someone (i.e. LvG) deciding that he will never become an integral part of our first team, and it's best to cash in now rather than a season or two hence. Which seems strange, on the surface, given that we saw glimpses of what he can offer last season, and the fact that we do not really have anyone else who has anything even close to his skill set in our squad.

If we let him go, I can only assume we're trying to bring in someone else who can function both as a wide player and stand in as a striker. Which sorta makes sense if you concede to the judgement that Di Maria won't realize his potential with us, and consider or lack of options up front. I don't believe for a second that we'll ship out Di Maria and replace him with a second rate wide option such as Gaitan.

I am getting a little worried about him. I dont want him to leave yet where as the media in France are fairly confident the deal is already in place.

as asinine as it all sounds, just remember that LVG preferred ashley young to him last year. absolutely nobody in this galaxy or any other would have guessed that to be the case.
But that only happened when he got injured and struggled with fitness for a while. Same reason why it herrara soo long to get into the team.

As shit as he was for large stretches, he still played a role in 14 goals in 27 matches - better than one every other game. That's not too bad considering he only started 20 times. I like Di Maria and I think he could still be very good for us. Lest we forget he didn't get a pre-season with the club last year.

That said, if we can get near 50 mil or a striker in return, I think we should take it. I think Herrera can be as effective as him in the same role and may just be better suited for the style of play in the Premier League. I think a swap for Cavani (or a huge transfer fee) would do more to round out our squad than keeping an unhappy Di Maria around.

Makes me wonder what could have initiated this possible move to PSG? Di Maria's willingness to leave Manchester (for whatever reason) or LvG thinking that Di Maria could be let go as he does not perfectly fit in his playing system? Anyways, rumours from France seem to be strong, and I personally can see Angel playing for PSG next season. For the love of God, get Verratti or Lucas Moura as a part of the deal but not Cavani.

But we dont need another midfielder, do we?
I dont think PSG has any players to give us. So it is better they pay something greater than what we paid to get him.
I ll be shocked and sad if we let him go and for that rumoured 43M, when the likes of Sterling are going for 49M..

If we sell him then we need another player and that's what we dont need. One more player to buy. Keep him and I'm sure he'll shine.

Think so? Would love it to be the reason. With an improved midfield and proper right-back, AdM could be lethal.

There hasn't been a single quote or reliable source yet. Basically all that's happened is the part of the Caf that believes everything they see, and the part of the Caf that wants Di Maria out slightly too zealously, have fed off each other for about 30 + pages to create a kind of weird, convicted fervor over a story that's only been reported in the French tabloids.

Things may change, and obviously we - the plebs - know nothing, but as of right now, there's no reason to be worried. It's the equivalent of Real fans freaking out when The Sun said we'd sign Ronaldo last summer.

His first 5 games were against Burnley, QPR, Leicester, West Ham and Everton. He scored 3 of his total of 4 goals that season for us in those first 5 games against pretty weak opposition. He then, quite frankly, faded to pretty much nothing for the rest of the season.

It's not unprecedented though. Remember Drogba early on in the premier league? And he was always a brute physically.
