Álvaro Morata | Chelsea player

Because I have faith in our manager bringing the best out of any striker who plays for us next season. Morata is as average as they come and we'll be looking for an upgrade sooner or later. Makes no sense spending a big sum of money for a stop gap player.
Look, I am not the biggest fan of Morata myself but he is the best we can get right now and it would clearly be an upgrade on what we already have (Rashford). Morata is still very young so I see no reason why he can't become very good player so I think it's ridiculous to suggest that it's better to spend like £20m for 30 year old Vardy who had 1 good season in his career than spending more for a young and talented player.

I get it, people are hoping that he is just on the cusp of becoming a great striker and the fans want us to get in before that happens. The only thing that goes in his favor is that Mourinho wants him and he clearly knows a lot more about football than I do so there must be something, I guess. But I don't see anything special about him anytime I watch him.

Then there are rumors of a player like Lacazette being available who has distinctly great qualities and would cost about the same as our reported bid for Morata.

Considering we wouldn't have won the league without him, yes, we *do* need him

And the reason you hate us is because Cristiano Ronaldo forced you to sell to us, and De Gea did the same two years ago

Is that genuinely what you believe?

No you have ruined lots of young players by signing them and then discarding them like there old toys.

Your all time number 1 goalkeeper who served your club for his entire career wasnt given any kind of send off or thank you he was snuck out the back door.

Di Maria didnt want to leave he'd just had one of his best ever seasons helping you win a CL final and you binned him off.

Morata had a great season at Juventus he enjoyed himself, wanted to stay and actually have a career in football but like spoilt brats Madrid forced him to go back and sit on a bench.

Ronaldo has absolutely nothing to do with it he loves this club and fergie more than he ever will Madrid and its self entitled supporters, you were nothing more than a mans dying wish granted.

I could go on in depth about how many talented youth players you've completely ruined too but I'd be here far longer than i want to be.

Lets just say the hatred runs much deeper than you think and his nothing do with Ronaldo or De Gea.

Play Berbatov... dude also scored goals, and I loved his touch and game. Then splurge for another striker or two that is average as well.
lol

You think Berbatov was only average? He didn't suit our style of play but Berbatov was far from average.

I think he's the biggest example of 'I don't get it' when it comes to a player. My luck must be awful because I've never seen him have a good game but he presumably must have had at least one or two looking at his record. The price is just absurd, mind.

Just to discuss this tweet form the twatter thread...

Does anyone else think that maybe it will make the Morata negotiations more difficult as opposed to straightforward? I'm sure Madrid enquired about De Gea's price, only for us to tell them we wanted £70 million. Now, I would not be surprised to see Perez playing hard ball with us. Just seems like a logical outcome.

You aren't stupid. You won't pay that

It's nothing to do with Stupid. It's a supply and demand market with a lot of incredibly rich clubs. If we're desperate for a striker, which I'm sure we are, of course we will end up paying whatever is needed. On the contrary, it's wise to just go out and get what you need. Because come mid-season all the money in the world won't buy you a goal.

I wasn't initially that keen but I really don't want our striker hunt dragging on all summer derailing valuable preparation time, so I say let's just get him in as he seems to be the best available option this summer. I would love Mbappe ideally as he looks like a superstar in the making but he's staying at Monaco for another season it seems so that hunt is for next summer.

Yeah, other than cash we have nothing they want/can get if De Gea is staying, so they'll try to fleece us.

I used to hear the same things said about Zlatan, and still hear it about Cavani; "Every time I've watched him he's been crap" or something similar.

Our scouts and Jose will have watched a lot more of him than you have, and analysed his strengths and weaknesses. If we're prepared to pay £50m+ then Jose clearly rates him highly.

He is so horrible that he as started for Bayern, Atletico and Juve in recent years and he his versatile and disciplined enough to play as a 6ft 3in winger. In fact, he failed to score one of the worst goals in the CL finals. He is a really a horrible player.
Since when was horrible an antynom of capable? I can't stand him, and happen to not think he'd be an upgrade to our first 11.

I dont think its entirely Jose believing hes worth it, it just seems the top targets didnt want to join, if media are to be believed

I'd sure hope so. The fact he's not exactly jumping at the chance to join us is still a concern, particularly after the last big money signing we made from that club.

Since you made your earlier post.

If you think Mandzukic will not improve our starting XI, then forgive me for not thinking much of what you think.

See, im not sure hes even that good,
Did you watch him at Juve that season he was key in getting them to the CL final? Re-uniting him and Pogba would be a brilliant move.

I hope this is true but it's curious that Sky (Inc di Marzio) seem to be the only ones on this. Haven't seen anyone else report anything (ie Ducker, Taylor)

Those numbers do not make sense. There is no bargaining position for a player who does not play, does not score much and is very much a squad option. Sounds all made up like the usual Spanish stuff.

Marca have a habit of increasing the fee real receive and decreasing the fee real pay. I think its all tactics right now and marca are playing the negotiations game. I think we will get him for 55-60 million. Considering the money all other strikers of similar talent are going by, it will be a good deal. It will be interesting to see if we try and buy another attacker considering we were in for belotti and griezmann.

i like him, but its more the fee in all honesty. id much rather lukaku ( if given a choice)

I like him in the same way I like Giroud.
He's very good at what he does but he doesn't strike me as a striker that can lead a team to a title.

That's fair enough.

I disagree though, I think Lukaku is inferior and the price doesn't bother me. United could have £500m to spend if they really wanted to for all we know, so if United spend it, they have it.

As it stands, could be definitely more difficult to get the deal done. I still love the fact that De Gea will stay.

But I think the key in this is Mbappe. If they don't get him, they really do need Morata or at least replacement for him. And they can't get anyone of his quality as a backup striker who is willing to share his minutes in attack. The more I think about it, it seems more stupid of them to allow his move unless they get Mbappe. I think it's also one of the reasons why they ask such stupid amount of money.

I really like Morata but if they stand firm with their valuation, we shouldn't pay it for a number of reasons.

I agree. Same with Welbeck. 3 players who I think are very good in their all round play, but just are lacking in end product to lead a line to a championship. I mean, it'd be different if we had wide players who could chip in with 20+ goals a season to compensate his lack of goals but, unfortunately, we don't at the moment.

Certainly crossed my mind.

I usually hate signing Madrid. I do think Morata will be a very good striker and he'll have a big point to prove. Could seeing him being a bit like Diego Costa for us - he's physical, fairly quick, good on the ball and although he misses good chances he does have the ability to score good goals. At 24 he'll only get better.

Remember when we were gonna pay 125 million for Pogba and then the agent fee on top?

We ended up paying 89 million with Juve paying the agent fee. It's just easy for journos to create hype with by throwing crazy figures around.

The only thing that I have against him is that he always seem to have his head down. When dribbling, when running with his back or towards the goal, etc. If he can improve that and his awareness when with the ball he'll get a lot better(and in his finishing as well).

My gut feeling is that this one is 50/50 at best. I, like just about any sane football fan knows United haven't bent over backwards and given them De Gea for a pathetic price and they don't like that. They will bare a grudge with us unless a- we sell Dave or b- we pay silly money for one of their squad players. Morata I think they will demand this insane fee and stick to their guns and try and shift him off to Italy. Our hope of signing him is it drags on and Italian teams don't come in and then they are forced to sell at a (more) reasonable price which would be 52-55m (todays market).

I'm seemingly in the minority, but think he's an excellent player. Not a game changer as an individual, but a more than useful player to sign as Martial and Rashford are both developing and Griezmann is a year away (if ever). Also, think he'd be useful working with Zlatan in Europe if we are still in it come February. Not the player you build a dominant team around, but a good player that would fit into a good team.

If Dave stays and we sign Morata, I'm happy, although, not if it's at that £78m asking price.

He's certainly not my first choice striker, and it sounds like we'll probably end up paying more than he's really worth based on his minutes played and goals scored, and he's probably also not going to stay here forever, so I caN see us getting mugged by Real just a bit here. If, of course, we do sign him. He's never really been the main man somewhere, a guaranteed starter and the star striker. I'd prefer us to be in for Aubameyang for the money that has been quoted for Morata. I'm not saying Morata would be a bad player for us, just that we may end up getting our pants pulled down.

Well if it's agreed upon by both sides that De Gea is off the table it'll simply become a matter of agreeing on the fee and the payment structure. Madrid have the upper hand slightly since the player wouldn't mind staying and they are not desperate so we will end up paying what they want. If Mourinho gets into Morata's head and we can work out a payment structure based on bonuses and the inevitable buy back option I think we could sign him.
