What would happen in here if Morata suddenly did a U-turn and signed a new contract with Real?

Meltdown, or no?

Unless they're not signing anyone else (like Mbappé), which is very unlikely, and he wants to keep being a bench player, of course he should.

If this happens, we'll pay the release clause of Belotti, who will cost even more then Morata, though.

I'd be annoyed in the sense that United had been played by yet another Madrid player and wasted time on the deal

But if any player doesn't desperately want to play for us, then I'm glad they're not going to. Even if it was Messi or Ronaldo

A meltdown of biblical proportions would ensue.

Though I agree with the post above. Ed would enter an overwhelming state of panic and end up blowing the entire contents of the warchest on Belotti. Which I would not be opposed to one bit as I feel he'd be perfect in a Jose system.

Don't think so, Belotti will probably accept a lot less in wages

I don't think you can say that. If we had payed what Madrid asked then he would be a United player already. It's clear they are trying their best to force through the move, but if neither party (us and Madrid) are willing to budge, then the player can only do so much and at some point needs to protect his own interest. If the best he can get out of it is a new contract then so be it.

Torino won't sell Belotti for any club outside England for anything less than the release clause. Their president said it multiple times already.

I don't really know enough about Morata to have a meltdown. Wouldn't we just punt a load of cash on Belotti instead? We need a striker in some capacity so it's out of the question that we won't sign someone this window. Unless we invest in the midfield instead and use Rashford and Martial as our two main strikers this year?

Assuming Belotti would settle for £150k a week in wages instead of the £200k a week for Morata(reasonable), and that it would take between €80-90M in transfer fee for Morata(almost a fact), Belotti wouldn't cost more than Morata

Torino isn't going to negotiate the price. They'll tell us to either pay the release clause or go. Their president is very stubborn regarding this and mentioned it many times.

And Madrid won't sell Morata for less than €80M either. And Morata's on higher wages than Belotti and would almost certainly cost more. So at the end of the day, there's a pretty high chance Belotti would be less expensive than Morata

I don't think a 30-50k difference in wages will mean much giving Zlatan wages are saved now by him leaving.

Also no proof that Belotti will accept a low wage.

With Costa looking to spend 6months out of football I recommend Morata getting first team football before the word cup. I doubt he will stay with us interested.

Morata won't be making 200k. 150k tops.

Likely he'd accept less than Morata. And even if he didn't, we're talking about a difference of £17M over five years, tops. That's less than £4M a year

He's on 80k per week on his current contract and don't tell me it's post tax because it's not.
That's what he was making at juventus. We had to give him a substantial raise as part of the buy-back clause agreement

That's abit strange coming from Torino. Wouldn't they prefer to sell their player to a team outside Serie A than to the ones inside it? Monaco wouldn't sell Fabinho to PSG and we all know the obvious reason why

Not strange, though, because Torino isn't gonna compete for anything and they only need money from selling their players, so sure will prefer selling him abroad.

Im just waiting for breaking news that he's agreed a new contract.

You might be right!

Either way I hope they make it snappy, but United screwed RM over with DDG so you can't expect them to be reasonable over Morata in return tbh.

RM screwed themselves by waiting until Deadline Day to finally lodge a concrete bid. United filed their side on time. RM didn't.

They've just never been fully committed to getting him, for whatever reason.

We've become the slowest club to sign players since Ed is around!

the guy is on honeymoon - the only transfer he's involved in this week involves bodily fluids

patience fellas

2 days ago his missus said "last day in Ibiza", so he's probably finished or on his way back now. Unless they've moved onto another destination, the greedy shits

We've already signed one player.

Chelsea and Spurs haven't signed anyone of note yet, despite Chelsea being linked to everyone. Arsenal have signed someone on a Bosman. Liverpool have 1 player. City have 2, and one is a goalkeeper.

A lot of early business done in both LvG summers and Mourinho's first summer. The only 'slow' window to date under Woodward was the Moyes nightmare. Still plenty of time left.
