It's fecking disgusting we're letting Ozil go and get defeated by a team like Arsenal in the transfer market!!!! RIDICULOUS! He's not even supposed to be interested in a move like that ffs!!

I don't understand this saving a penny policy we're doing at the moment. £50m for Ozil is fecking penuts if you look at the quality. He's not even that old! Plays for germany so he won't be away much either. What kind of club are we these days??? I mean, £25m for Fabregas... I don't think ANYONE ON THIS SITE WOULD COME UP WITH THAT KIND OF OFFER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree..

I agree with those that say this could be another "Bergkamp" figure. Will be such a boost for them.

Can't believe we haven't signed him gutted surely better option than Giggs or Young?

The shift change starts here. Brave new world. The greatest signing from abroad the Premier League has ever had, in terms of the renown of the player before his arrival.

Mesut Ozil has joined the future.

Well done to Arsenal that is a brilliant signing.

:lol:. Somebody get him a towel.

Great signing, not what Arsenal needed but great nonetheless.

Interested to see how they fit him in. And look forward to watching play in the best league in the world.

Brilliant signing, the kind of creative flair we are lacking, never thought Wenger would sanction such a big deal but fair play. All those saying he's not what they need, for fecks sake, he's world class, you always need world class, it's the same reason we bought RvP despite having 3 strikers, you don't pass up a chance to get a player like Ozil.

Some of my fellow gooners have been carried away a little bit regarding our title chances, but there is every reason to be very excited about this, we have never spent this kind of money and Ozil is a world class player who will help us a lot.

Now, as a club, we just have to make sure this wasn't a one time thing, and we have to build from here, bringing a player like this every summer and start challenging for titles again.

Now if you guys bring in a defensive midfielder in the January transfer window, you'll have a starting 11 that can compete with any other in the league on paper. You also need a defender but I think the biggest problem with your overall defence is the lack of a proper defensive midfielder.

Good for them.

Arsenal fan overload everywhere at the moment though.

Very impressed about how Wenger and Arsenal went about this piece of transfer business: Did the groundwork behind the scenes, make an offer that cant be refused (and in todays markets seems a fair albeit high valuation), ensure the players feels wanted, desired and woo'd, and the force the deal over the line on the last day.

And lets remember, they smashed their transfer record with this deal (and ours too!) so this was big scary stuff for them.

Its like how we use to do transfer business :(

We don't need a DM, no one needs a DM these days - they need someone who can pass the fecking ball.

That's drivel. What do they need then?

People seem to have this idea that Arsenal need an angry midfielder or a tall CB and suddenly they'll challenge for the title again. It's bollocks. They need top class players all over the pitch, the kind they a. haven't been able to keep or b. haven't been able to attract ever since dodgy Roman arrived and started inflating transfer fees and wages across the board.

The dodgy money rolled into the league just when Arsenal were building their stadium. Unfortunate and thats what has set them back, but Arsenal fans should realise Wenger's intentions and the brilliant foundation that the club is in going forward because of him.

Brilliant coach and principled philospher on football, to this day. He's a credit to the English game.

Giroud
Cazorla Ozil Walcott
Wilshere Arteta

You can't tell me that you don't need a proper defensive midfielder in there? Someone like Song (who you had obviously) or Gustavo would have been perfect there IMO. Wilshere and Arteta are both good passers of the ball, but are too lightweight to be proper defensive midfielders. Every team needs someone who isn't afraid to get stuck in for their midfield. Bayern have Martinez, Dortmund have Bender, Madrid have Khedira, Barca have Busquets (different type of player but point still stands). You lot also need one who will help shield the defence.

a} we kept all our players this summer
b} we added a world-class player
c} we probably need a bit more to win the league but we're not far off

Madrid seem to have recouped nearly half of the Bale fee. Good business for them.

Nearly half the Bale fee, but at the price of a better player... Great business for Arsenal and Spurs, very poor business from Madrid.

DM (midfield enforcer/ball winner etc) types seems to be an increasingly antiquated concept these days.
