Anyone would be jealous - we're signing a world-class player. Spurs have just pissed £100M of Bale money up the wall.

Mertesacker would be bloody fantastic if he had any pace - without it he's OK.

He makes up for his lack of pace by his impeccable positioning. He reads the game and anticipates the movements of attackers very well. Yesterday I saw him take a ball cleanly from a Spurs player with little effort while the attacker was coming at full speed towards him. He also plays the zonal marking in the box almost to perfection.

Yeah wasting money on proven talent like Eriksen, Soldado and Lamela is no way to conduct your business.

Started the move which led to the goal iirc.

Ozil's a great player but with Bale and Isco coming in over the summer, they probably could afford to sell him if a good bid came in. I think he's the sort of player you wouldn't want to sell, but he is arguably dispensible to them now.

Wenger has probably simply realised that if he wants to sign a top quality player then he's going to have to loosen his principles when it comes to very high wage demands. He seemed willing to do it with Suarez until Liverpool refused to sell, so I imagine it's the same case here.

They probably need to strengthen more in other areas, but if they've got a chance of signing a top player like Ozil for a good fee then they're not going to turn that down.

I guess so, but would have made much more sense to let Di Maria go.

It will be interesting to see how it goes at Arsenal if Ozil goes and gets 150k + as a wage.

Perhaps because they don t think he as good as you do...
Apparently so. Apparently 20+ assists and 10+ goals per season are not good for Real..

Nothing makes up for lack of pace in my book - you're always vulnerable. He has done very well despite it.

 Still fine.

If nothing is done in the next couple of hours, I'll begin to think a hijack has occurred.

If you contact OT they may let you have the hijack car for a couple of hours. Personally, I hope you get him. As a fan of football, he can only be good for the EPL.

Regardless of what some will say in here, I would rather have Rooney play in that position as I believe his "engine" is a stronger one and he is prepared to track back to try and recover his mistakes. As a pain in the arse though, Rooney wins hands down.

I hope Wenger gets some respite after this signing and I hope you continue to whoop Spurs' arse. :D

This transfer makes little to no sense whatsoever.
1. Why would Real sell Ozil? He's one of their best players, regardless of Bale coming in.
2. Arsenal would triple their highest transfer fee for him probably.
3. Arsenal don't even go near to the wage demands Ozil would like.
4. Also don't they need defender, full back, and a striker much more than Ozil?

Really odd if it comes through.

Because they are Real Madrid. They must change the squad every few years. Ronaldo is Ronaldo, and the two new Perez toys won't get benched which mean that Ozil will get benched despite arguably being better than both Bale and Isco.

Both Bale's signing and Ozil's departure are typical Real's behavior. This behavior it's also the reason why they haven't been winning that much trophies in the last 10 years.

Isco is fecking amazing, he deserves to start ahead of Özil.

Ozil is the best No.10 in the world IMO. I like Isco but he isn't in Ozil's level yet.
He'll be better than him very soon plus he's Spanish so they love him. I'm very impressed with him, I think he'll be a great transfer even at the expense of Özil.

Another world class player not wanting to come here, but I doubt we even went in seriously for him. RVP is becoming a rarity.

I am sure he would rather come here then Arsenal, but we clearly don't value what he can bring to the team, as much as Arsenal do.

Wenger is a great old persuader.

He is, would you be convinced by Ed Woodward, I certainly wouldn't. He looks like someone whose clothes don't even fit him properly.

Look, Wenger rings him up and talks to him in German (or Spanish if he prefers) - Moyes shouts louder in Jock.

Life at Real, eh? One minute Marca is calling you 'the heir to Zidane'; the next, you're thrown into the path of oncoming traffic.

Strange club, I don't think it's even about the quality so much as the shiny newness, that is most important to Real. Robben, Sneijder and now Ozil. They are like the Sloaner who takes last seasons perfectly fine garments and dumps them outside Oxfam, just to make room for an £85m silk scarf.
