So we spunk our cash on Ozil instead, leave our CM positions weak once again, rely on Carrick and hope for the best. We don't need strengthening in AM, it's CM's we need. But don't get me wrong, if we went in for Herrera, Fellaini & Ozil, I'd be chuffed

We can afford Ozil and Herrera. Fellaini would perhaps be good enough for a club challenging for the top 4. But for a club hoping to win the title and Champions League? Would he make a £25 million difference? Very debatable.

Not believe anything until it happens. Even if we were in for Ozil i can't see us admitting it outside of carrington. Believe if Perez says something.

If we aren't looking to sign him, I think we all should accept that there's no ambition at Untied to take on Europe's best. Scrap for the league of course, which I guess is also fine.

Why are you acting like the Pool game was our best team.. Everyone knows it was shite.

--------- Van Persie -----
Kagawa -- Rooney --- Nani
----- Carrick -- Herrara -----

Seems fine to me.

I think Rooney is more creative than Kagawa. Rooney probably isn't as creative as Ozil in terms of a killer pass but he's still very creative when on form and will always score lots more goals. When we were first linked with Ozil I did think we should go all out for him but now, not really. He plays in the same position as our best player and we're in far more need of players in other areas. The only real reason it seems it'd be great is because it'd mean Arsenal wouldn't get him.

Rooney will score a load of goals - and he doesn't even need form to do that - but in terms of being the man you look for to unlock a defence or play the killer pass? I don't see it... the game against Chelsea on Monday just reminded me further of that. Against 90% of teams he'll be brilliant there mind, and will score goals for fun (and create loads too)... but against the best teams? I don't think it's enough.

We definitely need a CM more, and if we could only buy one player - then that man should be Herrera, but I'd hope we're looking for mroe.

£25m, who knows, but Everton need to make some sort of profit on him. I wouldn't mind him in the slightest, he'd add some extra 'bite' to our midfield which we've definitely been lacking. I know he gets a very mixed reaction on these forums, but I for one would be happy if we signed him.

I think Rooney is more important to the team than Ozil would be, he's also more of a big game player than him. Ozil is great but he's not remotely as influential as Rooney is, really we should only be in for him if Rooney goes, which is unlikely now.

If we're buying Herrera and Fellaini then we surely can afford Herrera and Ozil. £17 million is hardly a colossal amount for a club our size. Herrera should be the absolute priority but choosing Fellaini over Ozil is madness.

In terms of signing a big name & quality player, then yes it is. In terms of what we actually need right here, right now, it really isn't.

Ozil would occupy the same space as Kagawa and neither can be fit into a proper formation whern Rooney is playing. Mental buy, imho. What we need is a CM who can score goals, out and out wingers who can score goals.

I agree, but it would mean getting rid of Young and Valencia... which isn't going to happen anytime soon I don't think.

 You're right

The point is we need a CM more than Ozil, try reading the thread mate
His point was the squad has been in decline since 2009 in terms of quality and he posted a comparison to try and prove it. You responded by saying the team is fine and posted a side including a player who doesn't actually play for us to prove it. He wasn't saying anything about signing Ozil instead of a central midfielder. Try reading his post mate.

If you would have asked me what my dream transfer window would have been, I would have said it would be replacing these two and getting a CM or two in. Shame we are not that ruthless with getting rid of players when it's clear they are not good enough for us.

just play ozil kagawa and rooney and let them all interchange positions, let fellani and carrick kick lumps out of anyone that runs passed them ha :-)

From BBC:

Ben Smith, BBC Sport
"Manchester United are definitely not in for Mesut Ozil. The Premier League champions are, however, working hard to sign Everton's Marouane Fellaini and Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera."

It just seems bizarre to be working hard to sign Fellaini at this stage - if Moyes was after him, why not work hard on it two months ago?

Manchester United have denied that they have entered the chase for Real Madrid forward Mesut Ozil, but Sky sources understand contact has been made with representatives of the Germany international. Paris St Germain are also believed to be keen on the highly-rated 24-year-old.

Sky are just trying to get people bet like crazy. No coincidence that they mentioned the odds offered by Skybet along with when they broke the news first.

 You nutter.. Course he wasn't speaking about signing Ozil

'Working hard'...

If I had to choose between Herrera and Özil, I'd go for Herrera... but only because having Cleverley and Anderson as 'options' scares me.

One is a good player, the other is a world class player. It's not even a debate.

He's an upgrade in that position on our 2 AMs, Rooney is better as a striker, Kagawa is in the tier below Ozil. I'm not entirely sold on Herrera.

Will he make the squad better? Yes.
Will we favorites with just what we "need"? No.

You act like City, Chelsea, Tottenham and possibly Arsenal, haven't strengthened from last season. We need to improve.

And most mental of all, even in the post you supposedly read look at the bolded.

If we aren't looking to sign him [Ozil], I think we all should accept that there's no ambition at Untied to take on Europe's best. Scrap for the league of course, which I guess is also fine.

I was talking about Ozil as a reference to world class players. We had a more than a few of them now we have only one or tow which are performing at that level. So passing up on Ozil doesn't really show intent to get back to the level of that squad of 2008.

I know he's talking about Ozil, but I don't think he's saying we should sign Ozil and not sign a central midfielder, he just wants a better central midfielder than Herrera who he doesn't rate. His general point is that when a world class player like Ozil becomes available we should try and sign them, and I agree.

Kagawa and Nani were misused/hardly played last year, and it seems like they will be misused this year as well, but time will only tell. Rooney wants out, and is on the decline. Same goes for the Vidic, Rio, and Evra, unfortunately.
