Another thing. Why would we approach Özil now when we were, reportedly, offered him a couple of weeks back?

Sort of (in Rooney's case anyway). Couldn't think of two more different players in Rooney and Ozil, so if the manager wants what Ozil brings to a team ( a ridiculous supply of chances created centrally), Rooney is not a competitor for that. Shinji is though, and signing Ozil this morning will result in Shinji being gone by the evening I reckon.

He is competition for the same spot though behind Van Persie. Agree they are totally different number 10's, but doesn't change them not being in competition.

We should make a thread just for jojojo to update us on Herrera and Ozil.

I'd cry if that happened, he's the transfer I was the most excited about these last few years with De Gea.

Herrera is more creative than anything we have. Him, Rooney & Nani (fit) would be more than enough.

Probably more of a statement about what we currently have then Herrera himself (going on what I've been told that, whilst he can be creative, it's not his best asset).

Nani and Kagawa are our two most creative players (and that relies on Nani being good Nani)... Rooney offers some, but his best attribute from #10 is his goal-threat. We shouldn't really be totally relying on him to make chances for others.

Then of course there is Kagawa, who could be brilliant - but he still needs to settle it seems (and gain the opportunity).

Can a mod please ban me for a day. I have shit loads of work and zero motivation to do it. Hence, I'll just keep refreshing things every five minutes

Fellaini is NOT the player we should be signing if we want to challenge Europe's best. Fine as a squad player for £15 mil but £25 million is ridiculous. He's a decent player and we'll all be saying the same thing this time next year.

We don't think it's worth spending £40m for a player we don't exactly need, probably.

Will he make the squad better? Yes.
Will we favorites with just what we "need"? No.

You act like City, Chelsea, Tottenham and possibly Arsenal, haven't strengthened from last season. We need to improve.

I think Rooney is more creative than Kagawa. Rooney probably isn't as creative as Ozil in terms of a killer pass but he's still very creative when on form and will always score lots more goals. When we were first linked with Ozil I did think we should go all out for him but now, not really. He plays in the same position as our best player and we're in far more need of players in other areas. The only real reason it seems it'd be great is because it'd mean Arsenal wouldn't get him.

So we spunk our cash on Ozil instead, leave our CM positions weak once again, rely on Carrick and hope for the best. We don't need strengthening in AM, it's CM's we need. But don't get me wrong, if we went in for Herrera, Fellaini & Ozil, I'd be chuffed

We need to improve and we do lack creativity but there is a position that is simply crying out for strengthening and we're not going to spend something like 100m in one window. So central midfield's gotta be the priority.

If only Fergie did not neglect that area of the pitch so criminally, we could afford to go for Özil now.

We would. But it could be someone solid rather than a gifted playmaker like fabregas, and those are hard to find. The world is full of gifted ams rather than CMs who will do playmake as part of a 2 man midfield.

If you were gonna sign Ozil I think you would of let one of your wide players go and I think the deal would of been done by now. I think the trend nowadays is to sign CMs who can play a bit hence why you are after someone like Herrera or Fellaini and they come at a premium. I don't know what your budget is but unless you had let Rooney go I don't think you'd sign one of them and Ozil. The trio looks good on paper but doesn't really offer you much width and all three tend to drift into more central positions, your lot have always been a team who like play with wingers rather than relying on fullbacks for width and don't see that changing. Not in Moyes interest to completely change the way you guys play so quickly imo.

Who knows he might still join your lot and maybe I'm trying to convince myself more than anything but doesn't seem like he is a target for you.

Us and Arsenal going for Ozil? A battle of just who wants him the most least... :/

If we aren't looking to sign him, I think we all should accept that there's no ambition at Untied to take on Europe's best. Scrap for the league of course, which I guess is also fine.
