  • Really don’t get why he doesn’t try out Antony as LWB, this 5-2-2-1 is so defensive.
Might've something to do with the team leaking easy goals. Need them to be solid defensively before going forward more perhaps.

I don't like Maguire and Martinez in a back 3 together, but our options cupboard is bare.

Zirkzee from the bench counters the recent tactics of using him as a decoy, lulling the opposition into a false sense of complacency only for Højlund to supply the coup de gráce. With Højlund starting, we are basically out of options/ideas up top if he subs off at any point.

Would like to see Garnacho tried as a LWB. That left side with Dalot and Bruno just offers very little danger apart from Bruno creating something randomly.
It looks like the obvious move but we haven’t seen it once yet so far as I can recall. Amorim clearly doesn’t think it will work.

Seems to be less tinkering now.

The players on the fringes now know they either improve or can leave.

I suspect January might be busier than normal for possible ins and outs.

Rashford really has shot himself in the foot with that interview, would have got away with it with the previous regime but not with this manager and set up.

Have to agree, wingbacks seem defensive rather than attacking which means we essentially have 5 defenders.

Plus a DM in Ugarte. When you line up with 6 defensive players in this set up it's hardly a surprise if you look overly stolid.

DeLigt still out from the illness? would have liked to have seen Martinez rested maybe get some of his mojo back!

I think he is a natural 10. It's just that we don't have very good attacking wingbacks on either flank. I'd like to see Antony as a right wingback to see if they can combine well.
Probably be too one dimensional with both being left footed and coming in field.

I agree though, I think Amad can play either role to a high standard, we just need to improve one of the two positions (and I’d prefer a top quality wingback with Amad no.10).

That's what I'm thinking as well. Too slow. De Ligt, although no pace merchant, is more mobile and quicker than Maguire.

What has Mainoo shown to be starting? We’re definitely going to be quite vulnerable out of possession as a result.

I honestly can't stand it, Ruud proved that United's most balanced midfield is Case / Ugarte.

Mainoo for all intents and purposes is a 10, he's being shoehorned into a double pivot despite him being a striker / winger in youth games, similar trajectory to Pogba being misprofiled as a deep midfielder.

Especially considering Kobbies best moments at United and in the cup final was from advancing further up the pitch.
You echo my sentiments exactly brother.

Odds on the post-match being all about Rashy regardless of the result?

The sooner he is gone, the better. Seems a very toxic distraction. He could have won his place back in the team. This is all his fault.

Glad Amorim isn’t wilting under the British media pressure to get him back in.

I’d be astonished if he goes there at 27. Suspect it will be Arsenal. Be interesting to see how it works out.
Arsenal have already taken their punt on faded out prodigy with Sterling, I don’t think they have the facilities for it.

Now that would be interesting. I don't see them taking on his wages, and I don't see us transferring him there and subsidising his wages to make him affordable to them. But who knows. They do need goal threat varieties, but I suspect someone who's been in some form for the last 18 months is higher on the wish list.

He looks like he doesn't love the game anymore, so I am putting two and two together here, a bag full of money and a retirement league. Wishful thinking perhaps.

Would like to see Garnacho tried as a LWB. That left side with Dalot and Bruno just offers very little danger apart from Bruno creating something randomly.
Issue is RCB Maz or Yoro are more mobile and secure than Martinez is at LCB, we can afford to play a more offensive player in front off Maz or Yoro, from our current crop of players we are having to double down on the defensive side on the left.

The problem is that the left wingback still has to be able to pass, make the right decision and switch play.

Garnacho can't do any of those things.

think I’d rather have Garnacho in and Dalot out, move Amad to rwb just to give us a bit more attacking threat.

Haven't liked Mazraoui at rwb in any game he's played there. Also don't like the Ugarte-Mainoo combo. Not sure why we haven't seen Ugarte-Casemiro at all under Amorim. Glad to see Hojlund in for Zirkzee though in truth I don't trust either of them. Fully expecting losses to Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal in FA Cup, so a loss here would be really bad news.

Agree. That's why, regardless of our finishing, I reckon our three priority signings are actual wingbacks (i.e. majorly contributing to attack and not converted fullbacks) and a proper CM partner for Ugarte.

Bruno, Amad and Mainoo (+ Mount when fit) should rotate the LAM/RAM roles.

As it is, Ugarte should either pair with Case or Eriksen.

Hmmm, too many defensive players. I would've swapped Dalot with either one of Garnacho or Antony.

Four sources of limitation and vulnerability in the 11.

Bruno - Not quick or efficient enough on the ball to play as a wide 10 in this formation.

Dalot - Not a LWB, also in very poor form.

Mainoo - Playing through treacle since he came back from injury. Two steps behind everyone else every game in such a critical position. Needs to step it up today.

Lisandro - Not quick enough to play LCB and will be up against the rapid and wily Cunha. Potential disaster brewing there.

We should win comfortably and are far the better side on paper, not confident at all however, can’t see where a goal is coming from and can see us shipping a corner/set piece or two.

We've not once looked stolid at the back despite the more defensive wingbacks. Conceding chances and goals all over the place

I’d agree with this but hopefully they all put in solid performances today. I really hope Mainoo has a good game but he’s looked very sluggish since he’s come back and he’s pretty slow as is. Should be played as one of the 10’s.

looking forward to this, see a bit more progress. should win , wont be a walk in the park.
