Couldn't care less about the performance. Just need to scratch out a victory, any which ways.

Ditto. Hopefully, this will be the moment in which Van Gaal's qualities (stubborn, boring, defensive) pay off.

I've gone for this line-up, but hard to predict as I feel LvG will through a curveball or two in there.

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Blind Rojo
    Schneiderlin
    Mata Rooney
    Lingard Rashford Depay

I'd much rather play Fosu-Mensah or Borthwick-Jackson than Rojo, personally, but there you go...

Absolutely. Say what you like about LVG but he had the nous to take a very average Dutch team far in the WC. Hopefully all his big game experience will be brought into play and get us the 3 points tonight.

The BBC have pointed out that we're the best team this season on a Tuesday, so maybe we'll win. That said it's the last game at Upton Park, so maybe not. I mean these are the facts that matter more than any really.
Beside the point. We didn't have a better team on paper than City but hey we won! It's all that matters. They only have their swansong at the Boleyn to look forward to, we have UCL. Which should be the greater motivating factor?
Oh yeah totally agree, you don't need to have the best team to win, luck goes a long way, but how long can we rely on scoring our only 1 or 2 chances in a match?

Players who're fans of the club could well think of the last game at a stadium as being just as big. Could you imagine United not winning the last game ever played at Old Trafford, even if it was against a better, bigger team?

There are threads about defending set pieces and who will replace Martial. We all know this is going to be very tough.

The Norwich game gives me no hope. They won so many headers, they just didn't put them away. Martial was missed badly. We were so slow.

Hope Young plays. We need Schneiderlin for his size.

The occasion may help us and get to the west ham players. The crowd will be up for this.

    The crowd?
Our fecking players should be up for this! Do they want the 4th place badly enough?

Tell you what Fergie wouldn't have had any problem firing up the team. LVG will probably tell them to take it easy, keep the ball... bore bore bore, and we'll get picked off!

So Martial is still out? That is a real blow :( I'm still confident we can win this, not if we play Rojo and Schneiderlin though, please keep these two week links out of the starting 11.

West Ham will be well up for this game. Apart from the fact that it is their final game at Upton Park, West Ham will also be trying for a top-6 finish to get into Europe. If Liverpool win Europa, 7th place will not guarantee Europe, and even if Liverpool don't win Europa they can easily finish in 7th above West Ham . Will be a cracking and a nerve-wrecking game. Even if we win, last 15 minutes are going to be intolerable. Since December we have only won 2 games in the league with a difference of more than 1 goal.

Pretty nuch this, dont care how it comes or if the game is good or ugly.
    3 points is a must.
I can see us being ugly and boring but don't want to play into 'Ammers' hands. They are physically bigger than us but Payet apart, not more skilful. We need to play to our strengths-as Swansea did. Their defence is poor TBH

Martial is out by the sounds of things, and Mata is better through the middle.

That said, I'd actually consider playing Herrera on the right for this game. His touch was a little off against Norwich, but we could use his energy and he's technically better than Lingard. Also, his runs into space are very good.
I haven't seen anything about Martial, where's that?! feck sake. So much less confident now.

He's gone from almost certainly been out, to apparently travelling with the squad and facing a late fitness test.

This is bigger than the FA Cup final for me. Win this and we almost certainly get top four. I want to win the FA Cup, but the top four at City and Pep's expense would just be

Every time I think of tonight's game I get butterflies in my stomach. Haven't felt like this in a while, not even the Wolfsburg game.

Can't believe I'm so nervous over the prospect of missing out on 4th.

    Have we become Arsenal?

I think the importance of top-4 has become more than usual this time because (i) it's almost a direct contest between us and city and (ii) Will be funny to be in a position to deny CL to Pep (after he snubbed us). If it was between us and another team (bar Liverpool) it would probably have been less important.

People who want to risk an injured player need to think again. What if he ends up seriously injuring himself as a result and damages him long term? We don't want a Kompany situation on our hands.

This is where United are at the moment, but let's just hope 3 wins to end the season provides a springboard to better days next season and an upward spiral back to the top.
After Sunday's Arsenal-City result, I can't decide how to look at tonight - an opportunity to move a huge step in the right direction or will it be yet another slap in the face, all too common the last 3 seasons. A win is the must, though, however United get it, doesn't matter about the performance, just the 3 points.

With Mike Dean refereeing this one... I really fear the worst. I would literally take any other referee in the league ahead of him.

We havent lost there since 2008, IIRM... Law of averages and such....

Don't know why there's so much negativity here, our last performance at the "Bowl in Ground" was great and one of the rare highlights of this season for me. If we can match it we should get 3 points.

    I know mate.
I think it can go either way (33.3% chance of win, lose, draw). I don't think any team has an advantage here.

The cockneys will play their balls off tonight.

If they are that desperate to kiss goodbye to their ground with a win and let the occasion get to them that's good for us I reckon.

Balls of steel required this evening..and that's just for us watching.

2-3 I reckon. Goals all over the shop.

I'd genuinely never heard of their ground being referred to as The Boleyn Ground until this season. It was always just Upton Park.

I'm sure you are all richer for knowing this. You're welcome.

Proper starting to shit it, I've not felt this way before a game for a long time.
