I think we will start Schneiderlin, Rooney and Carrick in a midfield three, if nothing more than for their power and strength in the air in comparison to Herrera and Mata. Without Martial and Fellaini, we are really 'short' in that department and I see it as a major weakness tomorrow.

I don't rate CBJ at all. Mensah did play a half at left back for us recently too. Had Rojo in originally and would definitely prefer him to CBJ.
Really? How come? Mensah has played some as LB too, but it's not his best position tbh. I prefer him as RB right now, but could see him develope into a CM one day. Another reason I want CBJ instead of Fosu-Mensah as LB is cause he's leftfooted and been very good there until he got that injury. Specially his crosses has been superb. I don't rate Rojo much, he's pretty experienced and I expect a player like him to do better. Both Fosu-Mensah and CBJ has a much higher potential than him.

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Valencia--Smalling--Blind--Jackson
    -------Carrick-------Morgan-------
    Lingard-------Rooney-------Januzaj
    --------------Rashford--------------

Subs: Romero, Rojo, TFM, McNair, Herrera, Mata, Memphis,

Good line-up, exactly the one I want now when Martial is out.

If we play with as much heart as we did against Leicester, we might have a chance. We talk about how WHU are always on top of their game when we need a result to foil our chances of getting top 4, but how about the team shows up and actually fight for the top 4 as they should. Do we expect them to roll over and let us win because we need to top4? This useless bunch need to elevate their game massively if they have an ounce of respect for themselves.

    Hopefully we see this:

    -----------------DDG------------------
    Valencia - Smalling - Blind - TFM
    --------Carrick - Schneiderlin------
    ---------------Rooney-----------------
    Mata--------Rashford------Lingard

I think this is our strongest 11 at the moment. Just keep Memphis and Rojo out of the lineup and don't concede any free kicks within range of goal and we can win it.

Now would be the ideal time for the team to discover that it is possible to score more than one goal a game in the Premier League - if we could be trusted to score two or even three (I won't go any higher than that, as that would be ridiculous fantasy :D :() then I'd feel a lot more confident going into this fixture.

Trying to win this 0-1 is going to be very difficult, as is repeating the 1-2 of the cup game (remember the fecking stress of the last 10/15 minutes? :annoyed:) - it's asking for trouble.

Not sure if I've posted a line-up suggestion this season, but now seems to be the time :p

Assuming Carrick is fit but Martial is injured, then:

    DDG
    Valencia===Smalling===Blind===Fosu-Mensah
    Carrick
    Schneiderlin===Herrera
    Lingard===Rashford===Rooney
I'm basically selecting the hardest-working team we can put out tomorrow as West Ham are going to be running-around like absolute bastards, and we need to match their efforts. Harsh on Mata maybe, but I can't see us getting enough time on the ball for him to do his best work.

I like CBJ a lot and ordinarily would go for him starting at left-back, but I wanted to add height and strength at left-back whilst keeping Valencia at right-back. Rojo would be lucky to make my bench.

The biggest question is the spot on the left - Memphis isn't the right player mentally for a game as big as this, neither is Januzaj, and Young hasn't played in what seems like forever. Rooney's lack of speed would hopefully be compensated for by his work-rate, but it's the best of a bad lot answer that I've gone for here.

The main issue with my line-up is the lack of goals in the side outside Rashford, but maybe OG will step-up for us if Mike Dean accidentally gives us a corner

Valencia will be huge for us tomorrow. Their right back situation is a mess atm and with the form Valencia is in there can be no excuses.

But it will be Rojo attacking their right back, not Valencia?!

Unless I have misunderstood your post

Hope the squad properly understand the history and cultural significance of West Hams supporters at the Boleyn Ground.

Their most passionate fans including old timers from the ICF will be in attendance for the last ever game at this stadium and emotions will be very high. There might even be an old fashioned fisticuffs, for old times sake, in the back streets after the game!

With Europa Cup qualification still possible for West Ham, I'm sure we'll face a very hostile crowd and a very motivated team who might just sweep us away before we can even get into the game. So do we try and soak up and nullify the early pressure or come out sprinting and impose ourselves before they do?

Given that we also drastically need the points and that a draw is useless for both teams, it could well be an epic game.

Often when emotions are so high a team doesn't really perform. Especially when they seem to have slipped away from having a chance of Europe (although they could still get 6th which may be enough).

That's why I am hopeful. West Ham seemed tired and have ran out of steam.

Yeah its not clear at all :(
I mean it will all come down their left / our right because their right side isnt clicking so it's up to Valencia to play well. He'll be in the eye of the 'cross it to Carroll' storm.

We'll do what we always do I think. Keep things tight, take minimal risks, and hope that we can sneak a goal and win 1-0.

I actually don't think a draw would be useless for us because I don't think City will win on the final day, but we should obviously be going for the win.

What's the best scoreline in the Premier League? It's you 1-nil!

Memphis shouldn't start. He's been poor but at least has put in good work as a substitute. Young is probably the best bet - he's one note, yes, but he hits that note better than everything Memphis tries. Just can't see Januzaj getting the chance, especially in what will likely be a slower, smaller team. Break with Young and Rashford, that's our best bet if we plan to defend and counter.

Can see West Ham getting an early red card. Could be that kind of game.

Ok I just listened to people on this regarding Martial "being out" for the match, and now he's apparently travelled.

What source did people get their info from regarding him being injured for tomorrow?

Telegraph says hamstring but isn't it a tendon injury?
I called this earlier on. Why have a fitness test on a touch and go injury the day before a match? Wouldn't they give him as long as they can to prove his fitness?

Can't sleep. This really feels like a big game.

If players like Lingard could reproduce that magic he gave us against Chelsea it would be a sign of serious contribution rather than just travelling with team for the sake of it.

Same thing with Memphis. It's about time these players start producing crucial goods for the team.

Really nervous about this game like most are. I have found with Van Gaal anytime we are underdogs, we perform better. That goes the other way too, anytime we are favourites we don't show up. It's mad for all the abuse fellaini gets, we could really use him for this game. It's keeping them high balls under control and keeping that big lump Andy out of the game.Silly free kicks with Payet too. First half an hour is key in this game,we need to hush that crowd and keep control of the ball in midfield. It's a night for leadership and Rooney needs to give a good team talk. Keep focus, discipline and fight.

Van Gaal's united are so inconsistent it's impossible to know what to expect. Maybe a nil nil at have time and a game won by a goal, it's been a miserable season but we got to get up for this final push.Top four and FA cup would be great considering the mess we have been in since Christmas.

so let's strap in, fall asleep, get frustrated, score with a single chance, see de Gea save in bullet time, call the ref every name under the sun and plead to blow it up before you have a heart attack or stroke.

feck these lineups with Lingard in it. Just wtf has he done to deserve this undroppable status anyway?

We need to win and in spite of LVG's preference, that means we need to score. Lingard shouldn't even be in the squad at this point, let alone a starter.
Who would you play instead? We haven't really got a lot of alternatives on the right.

Also I don't think you can criticise Lingard for being poor against Norwich at least, he was so obviously being played out of position, and didn't suit the #10 spot at all.

Front 3 of Martial - Rashford - Mata would be better.

Martial is out by the sounds of things, and Mata is better through the middle.

That said, I'd actually consider playing Herrera on the right for this game. His touch was a little off against Norwich, but we could use his energy and he's technically better than Lingard. Also, his runs into space are very good.

I don't care if this is their last match at the place, this is the match of our season. LVG needs to rile up the troops like he's never done before. If we can win this we'll go on to win on the last day and get CL, which would be a massive accomplishment in light of how dire the situation has looked for a long time.

Whatever happens, I'm just glad that we've been gifted the ability to control our own destiny. Did not expect City to be dropping the points they have.

    ----------------------De Gea-----------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------
    ---------------Smalling----Blind-------------------
    Valencia------------------------------------Mensah
    ------------------------------------------------------
    ----------------------Carrick------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------------
    --------------Rooney-------Herrera-----------------
    ------------------------------------------------------
    Mata------------------------------------------Young
    ---------------------Rashford-----------------------

If not Young on the left, Lingard...if not Lingard, Januzaj...if not Januzaj, pull a kid from the stands. Anyone but Depay.

If Martial is out then it's a good shout for Young on the left, although I think LvG will opt to start with Schneiderlin instead of Herrera, and Lingard instead of Mata on the right - keeping Mata and Herrera in reserve if things don't work out. Not to sure about who will start at LB - probably Rojo if he's available, again keeping Fosu Mensah in reserve. It's anyone's guess with LvG, but those would be three great 'impact' players to have on the bench that don't necessarily need to start.

I personally would not care about our performance at this stage. Just win it.

The thing is, nothing will be decided tonight win, lose or draw. It's going down to the wire on Sunday and I know I'd rather be at home to Bournemouth than away to Swansea!

One thing I do know about tonight, is the whole of football will want West Ham to win, Sky have already gone over board about the last match at Upton Park .
I have a feeling we will do this tonight and spoil any party the West Ham have planned.

Tut tut, it's "the Boleyn Ground". Quite when or why it became that nobody seems to know.
