Changes were inevitable. A few Players have played too many games in a short time. We need to freshen the team. Also we have 3 massive games from This Thursday to next weelk Thursday (Liverpool twice and City)

I'd've liked to have seen a forward line of Memphis-Mata-Rashford behind Martial. Can't complain with the lineup though, I guess Lingard will offer us something defensively.

What has he done to earn that bold claim? Lingard has done far more with the opportunities he's been given and half the Cafe can't stand him.
Well he can't if he's not given the chance to. In any case, Lingard has nothing to do with him failing to make the bench. It's Weir that is getting on the bench over Adnan which is puzzling. No offense to Weir, but he isn't as talented as Adnan.

As me and a friend used to say back in the days when we played championship manager: "Never win a changing team!"
Why would you and your friend say that?

Surely the most logical conclusion is that LVG just rotating a bit with a view to Thursdays game, and it has no bearing on the players who have been dropped performances. I don't know why everyone needs to leap to a negative conclusion straight away.

Varela said he was knackered in his MUTV interview a few days ago, so I guess that's the reason behind him not playing today (he isn't even on the bench). Schneiderlin and Memphis (in the last 10 days or so) have played too many games as well.

It's weird how the two most people thought were the most talented, Januzaj and Pereira are being ignored.

    Varela is on the bench.

Logical team I suppose. But Carrick in midfield doesn't inspire confidence. Neither does Darmian at RB.

I think the change to the front line and Smalling coming in are good calls, but I don't see why we've broke up our only mobile CM pairing or switched out Varela who has been very good, for Darmian who has been more miss than hit so far.

Ludicrous, Varela and Schneiderlin have done nothing to deserve being dropped. Blind looks like a slug because he has to play every single feking game too.
Anyone know if it is a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1?

Lingard is suspended for the Liverpool game so that change makes some sense.

No excuses now with that back 6 + De Gea - all very experienced, most of them first choice, so should be capable of producing a solid defensive display at the very least.

Its the experienced first choice team who were serving up all those draws and losses.
They are the ones who served up the most boring football seen at OT for several decades.
I have more faith in your U21s players (which we were using for the last 4 matches) than with our first teamers.

I think he is resting them. We have some big games coming up.

    BOSS MAKES FOUR CHANGES
Van Gaal has made four changes from the midweek win over Watford as Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick and Jesse Lingard all come in for Guillermo Varela, Tim Fosu-Mensah, Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay.

Like the look of the back 4, proper experience and heading ability returning. Did worry, playing such a Pulis team.
Just hope Carrick-Herrera is going to work against their mid.

I hope Mata is appreciating it while he can, having 3 pacy lads in front.

Fellaini may well be useful today, especially if we can get a lead and need to hold out against some aerial fun later.

If Januzaj isn't on the bench it's because his fitness and his attitude isn't right for him to be there.

That's him wasting his own talent, not the club wasting him.

Why would you and your friend say that?

Cause we were kids, and kids like to say things they find funny, more than being serious?
"never change a winning team" - is just boring :p

LVG doesnt like him and tried to get rid of him last Summer...but opted for a loan-out.
Tuchel didn't like him and kept him on the bench.

I can't really comment on Adnan's ability because he doesn't get game time, because no manager has any faith in him.

    That's a load of bollix.

Darmian has been dire in recent games and he just slots back in ahead of Varela?! Depay finally gets going and he's dropped?!

Does anyone really still call it "dropped" in these days of bigger squads and loads of games back to back?

It's not 93 anymore mate, we don't get by with 14 players

It's hardly ludicrous mate, the team have played a lot of football recently and some of them will need a rest ahead of a massive run of fixtures.

The only negative I see is that Carrick is a lone holder. 2 or 3 years ago I would've had no problem with that but he is too slow now to cover that space on his own. BSF being out is a tough loss for us.

Memphis doesn't need a rest, he's in a good run of form and his confidence is up, dropping him now is just dumb.

Varela said in his interview with MUTV that he was really tired.
Sure he'd happily play more games.. and there are a lot more coming.
But this is when we are supposed to use the squad.
    Hardly a shocking decision

I don't know why Damian is starting, Varela has been very good lately, but I'm gladDepay is on the bench. Rashford & Martial should keep swapping positions and cause all kinds of troubles with their pace.
