wolfsburg to shut up shop because they only need a draw, us to play boring football as usual having no idea how to break wolfsburg's defense down.

looks like another 0-0 on the cards.

Agreed, our current football is best when winning 1:0 and the other team needs to come out for a win basically. So it should work fantastically in a 2nd half of the competition such as the C1. But when the opposition doesn't want to play football... I wish United could score in the first 20mn. That would be the salvation this team needs to kill Wolfsburg or any other defensive minded team.

Loving the optimism in here. Almost like most of you haven't been watching us the last month. All season in fact. We are in the Europa league lads. We had a game at home to essentially secure our place in the second round and we couldn't do it. We stuttered past CSKA clearly the worst team in this group and our performance against Wolfsburg at home we were hanging on for dear life.

So who are fit for this?Looks like we're down to Young or Varela for the right back spot.

We will win, Wolfsburg will want to win the group, they won't want a draw and assume that PSV screw up, so they will attack. United will hit them on the break. Lots of Wolfsburg possession, but United will hold out.
Why should they risk going down to Europa League? They are what we call a plastic club but I wouldn't underestimate them. Wolfsburg will want to make it into the KO stage and therefore focus first on not losing against you lot. Out of 9 possible outcomes, there's only one in which they play Europa, and that is losing to you and PSV winning.

Your last assumption cracked me up. Wolfsburg lots of possession against a LvG United? Not in this world. It doesn't fit LvG's philosopy.

At home and considering how we've looked recently, you'd have to fancy them to score on the break. I think we'll need a couple goals or a CSKA win. Wolfsburg have smart, tidy players who know how to ignite breaks while sitting deep. De Bruyne was a massive part of their counter game but it's still decent enough.

I just hope that all your optimism will be rewarded tomorrow. Personally, I just see us very average these times. We didn’t put a great performance since the Everton game. We’ve been defending well at times, passing well, but attacking not enough.

LVG said that we were ok in the buildup, creating chances but I see it differently. We created chances against West Ham, a weak team. But an in form Leicester we had on shot on goal, we were poor against Watford, PSV ect… Overall, we are just average, counting on individual flashes, but it doesn’t work when your “best” players are very bad.

So I can’t see us winning this (a) game. We don’t have the will to win, to destroy an opponent.

I hope I’m totally wrong of course, but I just don’t believe in United recently. I’m fed-up with LVG’s style of play with few improvements since last year. We could/should have been top of the league recently and beating PSV but we made it hard for ourselves, too hard.

Given that Guilavogui has not been playing his best for some time, I'm not sure if Hecking will play him from the beginning. It will also depend whether Gustavo is fit or still out with back pain. If he's still out, I'd expect Träsch to take Guilavogui's place.

@Chaky_Best I'm pretty certain Dost will return to the starting XI, most likely for Schürrle.

Anyone think that this game will have any effect on LVg career at Man Utd, giving the financial hit the club will take if we are out of the CL?

the general of the tulps with effectiveless possesion VS. dangerous counterattacking hubcaps @ their home where they are good

hmm... think it will be a 2:0 for the hubcaps.

Damn, no Schneiderlin. And I was hoping Rooney might make an early return, but no.
    Not looking good for this.

    http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-F...-champions-league-trip-to-face-wolfsburg.aspx

Captain Wayne Rooney is absent after missing Saturday's goalless draw against West Ham United with an ankle injury, while Morgan Schneiderlin did not travel after being forced off during the game against the Hammers with a hip problem. Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are all still absent.

Paddy McNair is named in the squad despite coming off at half-time at the weekend with an ankle injury and his replacement in that game, Guillermo Varela, is one of several youngsters in the party.

Nick Powell is included in the senior squad for the first time since recovering from a long-term hamstring injury and he is joined by midfielder Sean Goss and defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

United's travelling squad: David De Gea, Sergio Romero; Paddy McNair, Chris Smalling, Guillermo Varela, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian; Bastian Schweinsteiger, Michael Carrick, Sean Goss, Nick Powell, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata; Memphis Depay, Marouane Fellaini, Anthony Martial.

I really hope for PSV to stumble. I cannot see us winning this game. Wolfsburg will Play it safe and get dangerous on some Counter attacks.
Boring Possession Football will turn into hoof-ball once Fellaini and Young will enter the field around the hour mark.

Despite what some People here are saying I do not see Rooney being injured as a positive fact.

That travelling squad looks bloody awful.

Looking at that squad, you really do wonder where a goal is going to come from. Mata is probably our most established goal threat in that attack and I can hardly remember the last time he's even scored.

Look at that squad. Only two are pure attackers,Memphis and Martial. Business has to be done in January, no ifs or buts.

Well that squad looks pretty light... It'll be a miracle if we can get the win here.

    De Gea
    Varela-Smalling-Blind-Darmian
    Carrick-Schweinsteiger
    Lingard-Fellaini-Memphis
    Martial

    or

    De Gea
    Darmian-McNair-Smalling-Blind
    Carrick-Schweinsteiger
    Lingard-Mata-Memphis
    Martial

subs: Romero, Varela, CBJ, Goss, Pereira, Young, Fellaini

We have a lot of injuries so obviously the squad will look light. What's the point of having the reserves?

With this traveling squad i hope to see :

    ----------------DeGea------------
    Darmian--Smalling--Blind--Young
    ----------Carrick--Bastian----------
    Lindgard-----Mata---------Memphis
    --------------Martial-----------------

Or maybe something like this :

    ------------DeGea------------
    Darmian--Smalling--Blind--Young
    ------------Carrick------------------
    ---------Bastian--Mata-------------
    ---Lindgard--Martial--Memphis---

Our best hope of going through is for PSV to lose. It will be a miracle if that squad avoids defeat.
