I'm guessing the back 5 is used to combat an aerial threat from tranmere? Not seen them play much (or in fact at all). Pitch looks disgusting.

    Anyone got a river?
(born to be a giver...come on everybody now time to deliver ....give it away give it away give it away now)

Oh, i almost forgot about that Phil Jones masterclass from that day... :(

Don't you worry mate. VAR will save us this time around ;).
Although to be fair I expected Jones to be injured after 10 minutes on that pitch so he will probably be gone early.
Bailly will be gone after 45 and then we will see Ole move away from the 5 man defense for the second half.
The sub will save us and Ole will take all credit for our great 1-0 victory!

There isn't VAR, the only cup ties that have it is if it is being played at a PL ground.

Hahahaha, 3 CB's for the mighty Tranmere. Ole's playing the long game, hoping "the lads put a shift in and take them back to our turf".

On another note, what's the betting Maguire gets injured today? I'm convinced he's not fully fit and this could be a catastrophic decision to play him. Surely a fecking back 4 could handle Tranmere?

    Anyway, 1-2 United.

I'm been very supportive of Ole, but this team is a disgrace. Maguire, Lingard, Pereira should not be playing, Gomes not even in the squad? Agree with Dalot, and Shaw (giving Williams a break), but three at the back????????
Unless Gomes etc are earmarked for the city game, I just don't understand. How many chances does Lingard need?

I am already very impressed that Jones is playing. Against Burnley he looked hurt so i expected him to be out... what is this? His third match in a short period already?

Dalot and Shaw will naturally drop back when defending, so it *is* a back five.

    That’s a back 5 mate. 5 defenders & a defensive midfielder & a goalkeeper. That’s 7 defensive minded players against Tranmere. You can’t defend that.

Yeah, in a way, but hopefully Ole will be putting emphasis on attack rather than defense. Dalot and Shaw will spend the majority of their time higher up the pitch.

Or I'm just clutching at straws.

    Ever the optimist :D

A back 5 against lower league opposition is not a good look at all. Not sure why we needed to do that. Few players there that could certainly do with a rest. Surprised to not see the likes of Gomes or Chong in. I know there's question marks about their future but its still an ideal game to put them in.

Wait are we actually playing 5 defenders against fecking tranmere

    Banter coach

I think it will be more like 3 defenders, 5 midfielders. On paper it’s 5 defenders obviously.

To score a goal or assist a goal? Atleast a year worth of chances im afraid

    Ole is one banter coach.

The suggestion that he gets the United way is laughable. He is so risk adverse, it's not even funny.

I am already very impressed that Jones is playing. Against Burnley he looked hurt so i expected him to be out... what is this? His third match in a short period already?

Yeah I have been against our medical staff for long, but they seem to have found the cure for Jones.
We don't have that many injuries anymore.
It is just our squad is so thin and the 3 players that we miss are the key ones for us.
Although how we allowed Rashford and Pogba not being 100% when they played was silly and backfired.

I honestly don’t think it will be a five back, I reckon it’s Jones in midfield, which in some ways is worse.

Have to say I agree, Jones has played CDM at Blackburn as well in a few games. I think it may end up a 4-2-3-1 with jones and matic as the 2.

Or Jones at RB and dalot on the right hand side of a three. Can’t see ole being this defensive against tranmere.

Pitch is horrible, reminds me of OT back in the mid eighties when we used to have rugby league matches there.

We will easily win this match even with this team. We’ll get 2 minimum

5 at the back vs Tranmere, fecking hell. Watching us play has never been less appealing.

When we play a back four and ask the FBs to push up, we leave holes... Liverpool avoid it by having a well drilled tactic of their MFers dropping in to cover.

maybe a bAck five allows FBs to push up without leaving the CHs exposed.

Now whether we should have a well drilled MF cover or better CHs is another matter.

    I'm shocked at that.....

That you've been supportive of Ole that is...

The pitch is a disgrace. The women’s team were meant to play here not so long ago and it was postponed due to it being waterlogged. Doesnt look like any effort was made to sort it

But, but, Ole knows what it means to be Manchester United! Don't yoou know that mate?? Playing a back 5 against a League 2 struggler in the FA Cup is what United have always been about! He's got the United DNA man, leave him alone!

Underdog manager and always will be an underdog manager.

Yeah I’m skipping this one. FA Cup coverage in Canada is on a channel where it’s $22 a month and the only thing they have is FA Cup and Bundesliga. Plus I’m not interested in watching Lingard where he’ll probably score against a league 1 side and a bunch of little girls who listen to mumble rap will post “where the haterz at”

shaw and Dalot are defenders though, people can kid themselves saying it’s 3 at the back but the fact is we have lined up against tranmere with 5 defenders On the pitch. It’s just embarrassing.

People thinking game will be defensive or attacking based on tactical formation
