You might be right but Spurs will play a 3 in midfield, my guess is we'll match them up and play Herrera or we'll get over run. Which would mean one of Lingard, Martial and Sanchez don't start.

They could play whomever they wanted to in midfield, if we put our first choice team out (minus Bailly of course), then I don't see how they could cope.

So you don't have to drop any of the players that you suggest.

    DDG
    Valencia-Smalling-Jones-Young
    ----------------------Matic--------------------
    -----------Ander-------------Pogba--------
    --Sanchez-----Lukaku------Martial

    1-2
Sanchez and Martial on the counter.

Why no Lingard just out of interest??

I think we will win easily, and win well. Like 1-4 or something.

I think you're slightly over confident. We weren't great against Burnley last time out.

Is there no way for Fellaini to play in this game? Can't see him mentioned anywhere in the thread. I would prefer him over Herrera if we are to play with 3 midfielders.

A poster said the exact same thing when we are playing Liverpool earlier in the season. his reason was that we had beat Leicster comfortably and they (liverpool) had struggled against Leicster, therefore we should beat Liverpool easy in Anfield. It does not matter if you are Barcelona or Madrid, you simply will not beat Liverpool easy in Anfield. Likewise no team will simply go to Spurs and beat them easy. it just does not happen.

Can you not see the pattern. Away from home is always tough for us. Regardless of who it is. If you think we will have it easy against Spurs in Spurs, you are wrong and that is putting it nicely.

I may be wrong here, but did we have Sanchez available for that match?

I don't think we did, so not quite sure what relevance that Burnley match has in regards to this match with Sanchez, would you be as kind as to enlighten me please?

Why would you want to play a player in a big away game that has not featured for us in any game for a good while??

If you wish to get him back up to peak match fitness, then play him against Huddersfield, not in this match.

West Brom beat Liverpool quite easily at Anfield, so I think point is rather moot.

I don't think for a minute that it will be an easy game, however, it will be easier for us, and harder for them if we actually put out and play our strongest available side (so bar Bailly).

Until Sanchez proves to be decisive, we have to approach every away game based on the current trend.

Sanchez I would say it is almost a sure thing that he will be decisive, so I am not quite sure why you seem to be unsure or hesitatent over that.

Previous games not featuring Sanchez are not really all that relevant in this discussion, as the fact is we do now have him, so trying to point to a previous away match where we didn't do or play so well without him does seem a bit odd.

Tottenham did play 3 at the back again against Newport. Didn't help them, though.

Also, they'll have plenty of days to recover, but they did start 3 players (Vertonghen, Dembélé and Kane) who are very probably starting against us too come Wednesday.

Huge game for us, if we win I think we can push on and put pressure on City.

If we imagine we're 9 points behind City (Assuming we beat them) were still within reach. Pressure can change things in a huge way, we need to apply more pressure.

Sanchez changes everything for us now.

No Lingard is a strange thing, why have you decided not to start him??

Fair enough, that makes more sense!

As good as Lingard has been, hes not better than either Sanchez or Martial. We need to approach this game with three in midfield and allow Pogba to play further up the field. And no way does Jesse play in the central 3.

Over the last few years here, I've come across only one guy who possessed a level of optimism or delusion that could match yours. Are you Treble winning?

So you don't play the player who is bang in form, and can create and score goals almost at will currently, yup that makes perfect sense!
We should be looking to put out our best possible side in this match, and currently that includes Lingard, there really is no doubt about that!

Well since we are only really in two trophies, as we have left ourselves with too much work to do in the Premier League, then it is a no to your question, although a double of the FA Cup and the Champions League is still very possible.

Team picks itself to be honest.

    4-2-3-1/4-3-3

    Young over Shaw
    Lingard at no.10/midfield
Sanchez on the right over Mata

We don't need Fellaini. Can't believe some are contemplating putting him in. He isn't match fit and even if he was he would only be an impact sub. The days of Fellaini walking into our team are over. We aren't in the LVG era anymore and I suspect he'll leave at the end of the season.

I wonder how Arsenal fans will feel if Sanchez scores in this game.

On one hand they must be gutted to see him starting well for us with a goal on his league debut, but on the other hand he is helping us beat Spurs.

Anyway, I think we'll win this...just. Lots of goals, 3-2 United.

Yup. Would surely take an injury or a full-on Mourinho curve ball for this not to be the case.

If Tottenham play 3 at the back then we will go 3 at the back. But from what I've seen Tottenham play 4 at the back this season for the most part.

It's nice that we have a settled team this season, and the team plays better as a result.

really hoping that a front 3 of Martial, Lukaku and Sanchez gives us the attacking intent we've lacked against Chelsea, Liverpool and City....you could add the Spurs game at home too

this is the kind of game we need to be performing in if we are to challenge City this year or next

Arsenal fans would be delighted as we help them in the fight for top 4.

Must win game. I'd fancy our 3 remaining top 6 games at home even if we write off City away.

We could be a torn in their side the whole way through the remainder of the season. Let's see how they cope.

If only it was all that simple.

Think we can grind a win out, can imagine Pogba enjoying having Martial and Sanchez on either flank to spray the ball to (assuming both start)

Man I am so excited to see Pogba linking up with Sanchez. Sanchez takes some creative ‘pressure’ off Pogba, if that makes sense, as Sanchez himself is very creative and is always trying the difficult option to create chances, so I am expecting Pogba to step up another level with this reduced pressure and generally by having another world class player to link with.

Really? Cause he just did against Burnley away.

so looking forward to this- should be an absolutely cracking match

If only it was all that simple.

Why is it not "that simple", when it really is, the games prior to us signing Sanchez have zero bearing on the games with him, it really isn't all that hard to comprehend.

Who is writing off winning at City?? They are not exactly a world beating side, and as Liverpool showed, they can easily be beaten, and I think that we will go there and pick up maximum points.
They do not scare me in the slightest whatsoever, they were extremely fortunate at Old Trafford, and with Sanchez added to our side, we have the most potent attacking line up in the league.

It might be where they play their games when they are considered the "home" team in games, but it is definitely not their ground, so it is very much a neutral venue.

Until they move into their new home ground, then they will continue to play at a neutral venue when considered the home team.
The presence of 90-95% home fans is basically what makes any venue a home ground for anyone. So saying it is "very much neutral" is pretty much nonsense. ;)

A home ground is where a team has their base, and where they are most associated with.
In terms of ourselves it is Old Trafford, even if for a small period we did play at Maine Road, just as with Spurs they are most associated with White Hart Lane, and will be at their new stadium.

Wembley is just a temporary placeholder for them, so it isn't their ground, they are just the nominal "home" team, but they are not playing at their home, there is a slight but important difference.

So it is being played at a neutral venue that Spurs just happen to be using for games where they have to be designated as the "home" side.

This notion that we should avoid making tactical changes because of "Sanchez" is giving me a headache
