Why is it not "that simple", when it really is, the games prior to us signing Sanchez have zero bearing on the games with him, it really isn't all that hard to comprehend.
You talk like we're going to be unstoppable because we've signed Sanchez. You were probably saying similar things when we bought Pogba, Ibrahimovic etc.
You "don't see how Spurs will cope" against our strongest side. This is a team that beat Madrid at Wembley (fair enough they only had Ronaldo not Sanchez).
I hope you're right and it's the walkover you think it will be.

As good as Lingard has been, hes not better than either Sanchez or Martial. We need to approach this game with three in midfield and allow Pogba to play further up the field. And no way does Jesse play in the central 3.
Lingard has played as the 3rd midfielder for like 2 or 3 games now.

I'm no expert on the qualities of Spurs players, but isn't Trippier supposedly the better defender out of him and Davies? I'm just thinking if there might be an argument there for playing Sanchez on the right, to let him have more joy against the weaker fullback?

A home ground is where a team has their base, and where they are most associated with.
In terms of ourselves it is Old Trafford, even if for a small period we did play at Maine Road, just as with Spurs they are most associated with White Hart Lane, and will be at their new stadium.

Wembley is just a temporary placeholder for them, so it isn't their ground, they are just the nominal "home" team, but they are not playing at their home, there is a slight but important difference.

So it is being played at a neutral venue that Spurs just happen to be using for games where they have to be designated as the "home" side.
Like I said two times, the presence of mainly Spurs fans makes it not a neutral ground. But I can see I'm not getting through to you.

If it were really a neutral ground, Spurs wouldn't be significant favorites to win the game according to the bookmakers. They generally know their shit.

    De Gea

    Valencia Jones Smalling Shaw
    Matic Pogba
    Lingard Alexis Martial
    Lukaku

    1-1 midweek evening bore draw

That's the team I'd play (except A.Young, for L.Shaw), though I think we'll score more than 1 goal.

Spurs is going to be much tougher. I'd rather see Herrera/Fellaini play there. I'd love for Lingard to start further up the pitch, but that may not be possible.

Why would you rather see Fellaini play when he hasn't played for a good long while? That makes no sense, if he wants match fitness then give it to him in the Huddersfield match.

And of course it is possible to play Lingard, and he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Would be happy with a draw.
    A win would be incredible.

With Sanchez and Lingard in our team, I cannot accept a draw.
    We should absolutely hammer Spurs.

We have Sanchez for crying out loud.
Do people not understand how good he is?

Who really cares what the bookies think, they do not determine things, Spurs have nothing to do with Wembley bar renting it, that does not make it their home ground, just that they get to play there, and be the designated "home" team.

I am quite confident that we can beat them, the reason for that is the acquisition of Sanchez. Last year I wasn't very confident whenever we played against a big team away from home. This time I am confident. Let's do them.

I reckon we're in for a tough game. No away game us straight forward and this is against a top 6 team. The presence of Sanchez guarantees nothing but certainly improves our chances, since the lad is a one man army.

Hope we start with a 4-2-3-1 formation with lingard as the number 10. But for that to work we'll need lingard to drop deep occasionally and use his energy and work rate to the fullest, especially if spurs play three in midfield. I don't see the need to blunt our attacking potential to accommodate what spurs might do. Especially when we have a solid defense and hard working players throughout the team who don't mind tracking back.

Who is writing off winning at City?? They are not exactly a world beating side, and as Liverpool showed, they can easily be beaten, and I think that we will go there and pick up maximum points.
They do not scare me in the slightest whatsoever, they were extremely fortunate at Old Trafford, and with Sanchez added to our side, we have the most potent attacking line up in the league.

On paper, all is good. However, in big 6 away games we looked terrible. Backs to the wall, no self belief, not able to hang onto the ball for a second (see Arsenal & Liverpool). Chelsea away was similar for spells, more of an even attacking game though.

I think we should approach big games in a 433 but I honestly think a good result vs bad result is depending on whether Herrera has a good game or not. You need quality in a midfield 3 for it to work and both Pogba and Matic are quality. Herrera on his day is class as we saw last year. Hope he starts.

A win here would be a fantastic result and really consolidate top 4. To say that in January is a sign of the progress on recent years.

The optimist says a win would be a big statement that even though it's over well make city work for it.

I'll ambitiously go for 1-2 away win, Lukaku brace

That seems particularly ambitious to predict. However if he and Sanchez have developed a decent understanding there's no reason why not.

Think Mourinho will turn to 3-5-2 as he did against Arsenal or Chelsea away this year. The question is how can he let Martial on the bench when he is on form ?

I would like to see a 4-3-3 with Martial and Sanchez on the wing, but I really think that in order to close the spaces and get a man marking on Kane and Eriksen, Jose might be tempted to park the bus and play safe.

    3-5-2

    De Gea

    Jones
    Smalling
    Rojo

    Valencia
    Pogba
    Matic
    Lingard
    Young

    Sanchez
    Lukaku

3-1 Spurs. Not confident at all. We've been poor everytime we went cautious this year

Top post. Herrera needs to get his mojo back. The Pogba/Herrera dynamic needs nurturing. Developing trust and a good understanding in that sector will bring aggression and authority to the spine of the team.

I've gone for a narrow 2-1 win to United.

So hard to predict this one.

I would say Davies is the better defender of the 2. Trippier's greatest quality would be his delivery

Surely with martial being rested for the Yeovil game he’s a dead cert to start the spurs game.

Arsenal and Chelsea were playing 3 at the back then. 3-4-1-2 is a reactive system from Mourinho when we are facing tough opponents that play similarly. Tottenham are not expected to, although they could.

Usually Spurs play with 3 at the back too but they mix it up well.

What relevance do past games against rival clubs have here, as we didn't have Sanchez to play against them, so I am struggling to see why they should be mentioned in conjunction with this upcoming match.

    Hope to see :
    ------------DeGea----------
    Valencia-Jones--Smalling-Shaw
    -------------Matic--------------
    --------Herrera--Pogba--------
    Alexis-----Lukaku------Martial

You hope to see Lingard dropped?? Why, that is just crazy!

Scoring first is key. Whoever is able to revert to playing on the counter will have the most chance of success in this one I reckon. What a game for Alexis to, properly, enter the fray. If he wants to give Arsenal fans a leaving present by sticking it to Spurs, I won't complain.

Besides Newport a few days ago, the last time they played 3 at the back was 28 November against Leicester away! It might have something to do with Alderweireld's harmstring injury, but he is getting ready, so Pochettino has an option to revert to it to try to surprise Mourinho.

Regardless of Sanchez, how can you not see the relevance? It's a big away game, I pulled previous big away game performances from this season. :wenger:

I would say Davies is the better defender of the 2. Trippier's greatest quality would be his delivery

Trippier has a good delivery, but he is painfully predictable. He will touch the ball and cross it, x20. Never a run or trick past a player, just endless crossing even though the boys in the middle will know all about it. He is good at getting the ball in the right position though, so we need to be on him. Shaw is quick to mark players - but I expect Young to start as usual.

Big game. Hopefully everyone steps up, including the Manager. Going for a 4-2-3-1 formation which will probably switch to a proper midfield 3 if we have a lead. Only question though is where will Alexis play. I reckon, he'll start central with Messe out on the right.

    DDG
    Valencia - Smalling - Jones - Young
    Matic - Pogba
    Lingod - Sanchez - Martial

I see no relevance because those games did not feature Sanchez, and presumably this one will, so why look at games without him, and think that they are in way relevant to how we will or might play with him? It makes no sense whatsoever.

We will play differently with him in the side, then without him in the side, so if he is playing against Spurs, then I would honestly like to know why a game, or games in which he was unavailable to us helps us to think of how we might play?

Please just explain that bit to me, as it is something that just puzzles me.

We get it, you want Lingard to start

Quite right I do, why drop or not start possibly our most in form player??

It makes no sense at all to not start him.
