Can't wait for the game. I've been unable to watch the last three games which has killed me. I just literally can't wait. Holy feck.

Feeling oddly pessimistic about this. Didn't they do the double on us last season ? :wenger:

I think we'll struggle, go a goal down and then go on to score a scrappy one and scrape a draw

It seems like most people are in agreement we need to play:

    Romero
    Darmian smalling blind Shaw
    Schweinsteiger Schneiderlin
    Mata Herrera Memphis
    Rooney

It's inevitable we won't see this lineup...

Should we even bother to turn up then? :(

    Of course we should.
Favourites don't always win and bookmakers don't always get it right.
I agree with the bookmakers though - this is going to be a close match/score.

Funnily the only time we had no real trouble against Swansea was with Moyes in charge, before he managed to undo Fergie's work and install losers mentality into players.

Big game this. With Liverpool and Chelsea dropping points we could do with creating some breathing space between us and them.

Bruges managed to open us up a few times on Wednesday. I reckon Swansea will score against us. I'm hoping for a 2-1 or a 3-2.

Well they did knock us out the FA Cup straight away.

Sarni, when Moyes was in charge, for whatever reason, teams used to "play" against us. They didnt go for a 0-0 scoreline and have 1 shot at goal.
If you remember though, Fulham did this at OT. They parked the bus and we had a record number of crosses...so even under Moyes, some clubs used this tactic and we failed to break them down.

Under LVG, perhaps teams are scared to play against us and they have also seen that parking the bus tactic is very effective against us.

In our last game, Newcastle did actually start the game, intending to score against us. During this phase of the game, we were playing nicely and attacking. I was optimistic of scoring. However, in the 2nd half, they parked the bus and even though the ball remained in the final third of the pitch for most of the time, we couldn't penetrate their defence.

I do find it amazing that some teams are so comfortable having the ball so close to their own penalty box. If I was a player or fan, I'd be panicking if the rival team constantly had the ball so close to our penalty box AND had possession of the ball. If we had a top class finisher, like Ruud Van Nistlerooy, I think we could put 3+ goals in every one of these "park the bus" games. And once teams realise this, they'd stop trying to use that tactic against us.

Well they did knock us out the FA Cup straight away.

This is a big one. A win here will put us six points clear from Chelsea and we can go into the international break with a record of 10/12 points. I'm guessing that would have been our best start since 2006/07?

This game is as big as it'll get this season besides the usual biggies (Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, Arsenal, Liverpool, City). Swansea will do well this season. I'd be extremely happy with a win!

I don't want to hear any whining or complaining about style of play given yesterday's results.

    I'll take a tumescent 1-0 all day.

If Smalling gets through this unscathed, my opinion of him will begin to change...but only slightly ! Will be a good test for him today. Also hoping that this is also the start of better things from Rooney. He now needs to continue doing what he did against Brugge on a more consistent basis.

No, because lacking match fitness/sharpness. Would be very surprised if he starts

I'm not sure, he started Bastian last week b/c "the only way to gain match fitness is to play more than 45mins" plus he didn't play him midweek even though he had him in the press conference.

I think van Gaal's comments about Herrera means that he'll be given the chance at #10 today.

    Hopefully you're right.

Both sides unbeaten .Something as to give. But see it ending 1-1.

Bastian needs to be carefully managed, and i think van Gaal sees him as essential to our play. Fellaini on the other hand is a good player, but i dont think van Gaal sees him as a long term starter and the heart of our play. Also he didnt play preseason and also didnt get minutes against Brügge the last game. Would be surprised if he gets thrown in, but everything is possible with van Gaal.

We surely can't be getting 0-1 points out of a possible 9 in what would be our last 3 games against Swansea ffs, we're due a win here.

Bruges managed to open us up a few times on Wednesday. I reckon Swansea will score against us. I'm hoping for a 2-1 or a 3-2.
Thats why Schneiderlin will be starting, Brugges wouldn't have got a sniff if he started on Wednesday.

I just checked last year's first game against Swansea thread. This game was played before we bought our new attackers.
Most people thought we'd win, 3-0.
So, at that time there was a lot of positivity. I think this year people are more realistic. The most common predicted score this year is 2-1.

Well they did knock us out the FA Cup straight away.

Yep, I meant at Liberty though. Under Fergie we only managed a draw there and last season we lost. Our record against them in Premier League is boosted by Moyes' two wins, otherwise we'd be on 1 win out of 4.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Valencia start instead of Mata to try and double up on Montero. I worry about Darmian being left one v one against him , even tho he has done very well so far this season. Today will be the biggest test of the back four so far this season, no doubt.

This is why we MUST beat Swansea today...no more dropped points till we can afford to do so. If we can get a good win today and results go our way in the next round of fixtures, then things could be looking very good at this early stage. At least we wouldn't be in a mess like last season, playing catch up before we even got going. I'm sure we'll get a blip but we need to be in a position where it will not spell disaster. I really hope Chelsea continue to stumble for a few more games yet.

Anyone else expecting Fellaini to start?

    No.

Van Gaal said he didn't have enough minutes under his belt to start against Brugge. Didn't even come off the bench.

Why would he start him against a very good side away then?
