Apparently we've conceded the 46% of our goals from set pieces, the highest percentage from everyone in the league, while Swansea have scored the lowest amount of goals from set pieces in the league... Bodes well for us.

    Swansea City press conference

Over to south Wales, where our colleagues at BBC Wales Sport are keeping us abreast of what Garry Monk is telling the media.

"We probably haven't been as consistent with our standards as we'd like," says the Swans boss, whose team have won only one of their last six matches (though it was a pretty impressive win - 1-0 at Southampton).

Monk welcomes Gylfi Sigurdsson back from suspension to face Man United: "He's been an important player for us this season," adds the boss.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a wry smile from Monk as he's asked for his view on Sam Allardyce's recent comments about Man United being a 'long-ball' team.

"Variation in their play is one of their qualities," says Monk. If only big Sam had been that diplomatic.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apart from centre-back Kyle Bartley - who is to undergo a knee operationwhich will rule him out for up to six weeks - Garry Monk reports a clean bill of health for the United game.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And a final word too from Garry Monk, who was reminded about Swansea's opening day win at Manchester United (the Swans beat United 2-1 in Louis van Gaal's first Premier League match).

"That feels like a long time ago," said Monk. "But it was a fantastic day and the pleasing thing for me is that we won the game on merit.

"We put in a great performance and it was a superb start to the season for us. But they [Man United] have changed a lot since then.
"They have climbed the table and are in a good position. They have world-class players and I'm sure they are going to go from strength to strength as the season progresses.
"They can mix it up and change their style of play accordingly. It is a massive challenge for us but we'll relish it."

I think a few posters on here could do with reading that outsider looking in POV. So much negativity when in reality we are still a very tough team to play as one defeat in 19 proves.

Would like to see this line-up.

    ----------------------De Gea------------------------
    --Valencia-----Smalling---Rojo------Shaw-------
    -----------------Blind----Herrera--------------------
    -----Di Maria-------Rooney------Young-----------
    -----------------------RVP--------------------------

There's a presser happening for this now right?
RVP and Jones apparently fit for the game.

For some reason, I imagine that Giggs might be being more listened to now. Maybe it was the body language in the dugout during the cup run, and even putting Fellaini on 'in the position where he wanted to be played'. So hopefully pragmatism wins over philosophy, and we grab a result from what is bound to be a difficult game.

De Gea; Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw; Herrera, Blind; Di Maria, Rooney, Young; van Persie.

Would be happy to see that line up in a 4-2-3-1.

My optimism is rising about us getting into the top 4 at the end of the season but I remain stuck by 1-1. This is one of those games to grin and bear, grinding out a draw rather than playing well only to lose 1-0. There are some big decisions from this game that will effect the rest of the season, they include Falcoa and Mata. So looking forward to this game that I can't wait for Sunday!

Shaw is suspended, so it'll be Rojo LB and Evans LCB. I think that's what we'll play, also.

Are you Shaw? I thought it was only a 1 match ban as it was two yellows and he played against Preston.

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera di Maria
    Mata
    van Persie Rooney
    We'd win with that team.

Eep. I forgot about that. Violent conduct is 3 games right?

Good to see Mata being mentioned, how many games has he missed now, three or four? Surely he won't miss any more games? Writing would be on the wall for him if he missed out more, because he's not injured is he?

Only thing is, I remember a really weird press conference with Van Gaal for Holland NT, predicting that an Estonian player would play the match of his life when Holland played them during the qualifiers for Brazil.

The prediction from Van Gaal was because the Estonian player just became a father the night before the match. He scored that match and Van Gaal went on post match about his 'total-human principle', he expected it to happen because the player was full of joy because he got a child.

Long story short: Falcao might get a chance because he just got a child, ridiculous as that sounds.

    Louis Van Gaal Press Conference
Games like these are the ones we need to win if we are going to get top 4. I think we will, I think we will actually play better tomorrow than we have done for a while (I'm trying not to jinx it).
Swansea do try and play the ball on the ground are not a very direct team. They will certainly rely on their creativity in the middle, which could suit us, should Blind play and play well.
Hopefully Falcao will sit this one out (never thought i'd be saying that) due to recent child. RvP needs a goal and a good performance.

Ohhh bollocks. That's ruined all my optimism. fecking dynamic duo up front again :annoyed:

Exactly my thoughts! To me, it's good to have Young back. He has an impressive season so far and we were playing a way better with him. Same for Fellaini. Him and DiMaria as IF could be work.

Van Gaal stating that the players finally understand his philosophy fills me with dread....

firstly it means we've probably no chance of seeing a 4-3-3/4-5-1 as we haven't started a game like that this season

secondly he is setting himself up for a fall with talk like that

so hard to predict what will happen with United - could as easily be a 2-1 Swansea as a 1-1 or a 2-1 United

Swansea play with possession football in a slow pace so I think it could be a dull slow game - maybe a 1-0 could win it

That's daft. The philosophy isn't the formation, so if they are understanding the philosophy he might be more open to playing a less pragmatic formation.

well your understanding of the philosophy must be better than mine - I'm disappointed as Manchester United philosophy has always been to play fast attacking football - something we haven't done under Van Gaal

a 'philosophy' will obviously have an impact on tactics though

how do you think we'll line up? What difference do you expect to see? We've been playing possession based football all season - do you think there will be a change as Van Gaal suggests?

Didn't know where else to post this but does anyone know roughly how quickly the full game becomes available in the videos section? I foolishly said I would play football today before I realised we were a 3pm kick off so I am hoping to avoid the score then watch it when I get back around 5. Unless anyone knows any other way of watching the game once it's finished without finding out the score in the process? Cheers guys
