This starting 11 is structurally same as the ones from last season when we beat Liverpool and city
It isn't. It's still a 4231. Fellaini will still go walkies and leave Carrick alone to defend on the counter against Shaqiri, Bojan, and Arnautovic.

What's up with no Morgan. And he dropped Rooney! Wow. Balls out LVG!

Wow, Rooney dropped! Can't complain about that, it's long overdue tbh. Good to see Herrera back in the side after injury. Also good to see that Fellaini is in that more advanced role and not a midfield two. That's been one of our major issues recently.

Let's see if Rooney still says the whole team supports LVG after this...

How stupid is Le Tissier? Took him an age to say Rooney has been rubbish and fails to remember we have Chelsea in 2 days

Rooney gives a "rallying cry" and says "players are the manager" one day, gets dropped the next.. LVG works in strange ways.

That said, Rooneys form doesn't warrant a place in the team.

I strongly doubt Rooney's been 'dropped', we have a big game coming up in a few days and he probably wants him fresh for that. Though of course that doesn't quite tie in with the Caf narrative.

one change and some people act like this is some massive improvement. This is still the same team that got pounded by norwich on the counter, just that LVG removed an inefficient attacker for a efficient one.

lets not get too excited here.

Had to switch of Soccer Saturday, fecking idiots fail to realise squad management is needed for Stoke and Chelsea within 3 days and Rooney can barely play 90 minutes a week let alone 180 in 3 days

I assume you mean Carrick, Young, Blind, Jones and Smalling will be left alone to defend against Shaqiri, Bojan and Arnautovic?

Or do you prefer it when United have two holding midfielders and set up not to concede?

Joke at this stage bud. On the bench the last 3 or 4 games, now with Herrera back any excuse for "Morgan's lack of creative passing" should not come into play.

Morgan protects the back four so so well. Composed on the ball also, I really don't see why Louis doesn't use him. Hope to feck he doesn't alienate him as he has massive potential.

It's utterly bizarre given what happened against Norwich. Car ricks never been a mobile player anyway but now he's 34 he's awful at tracking runners.

If Stoke bring their City form then we're in deep trouble.

Would rather perfer an actual fullback then young tbh.

I like young but he is not a full back.

    Agreed.

No way he drops Rooney at this stage. He's blind to his shortcomings. He's saving him for Chelsea. Taking what could be his last gamble here.

If Rooney chucks his bib at him, it's definitely all over for Van Gaal.

Rooney being saved for the big game, along with Schneiderlin I think. Van Gaal taking a risk here, he obviously thinks we have enough there to beat Stoke. Is he right though?

If we get dropped kicked at Stoke will LVG still be around? Should have gone all out to win the first game first.

Come on United let's fecking have this collection of big club rejects!! Excited to see Herrera and Mata linking up again but with Martial up front instead of Rooney. I've got a good feeling for this. Come on you mighty Manchester red men!!! United to win 3-1. :wenger:

Suddenly feeling a lot more confident with the line up (basically Herrera's inclusion)

Anyone think Rooney got a bit too "merry" yesterday and that's why he's dropped?

    :lol::lol::lol:

Has LVG been playing FM16? Pre match interview asking about the match plan and he says "that's for us to know not you"

To be fair, it's stupid when they ask that to managers. Do they expect them just to say the tactics they have planned out? It's either that or give the generic answer of "Just trying to win/score goals/stop their best player".

Oh I know :) but you know sometimes managers make general comments like trying our best and being positive and that sort of thing

SS are talking rubbish! Rooney hasn't been as bad as the others? He's probably been the worst striker in the league, relatively speaking.

In the phase of counter attacking, unless the back line is pressed exceedingly high, it will most likely be Carrick alone against those three - as it was against Norwich.

I prefer a midfield three, yes. But with fully functioning midfielders.

    No Rooney ?

No, I think LvG has just had enough with his performances as they could ultimately cost him his job.

i dunno about you, but seeing Rooney finally dropped made me a lot more confident.
