i dunno about you, but seeing Rooney finally dropped made me a lot more confident.

Could be the language barrier again.

Tactical meaning, save him for Chelsea.

The guys on Soccer Saturday are the worst pundits on the planet.

No way he drops Rooney at this stage. He's blind to his shortcomings. He's saving him for Chelsea. Taking what could be his last gamble here.

Heard the interview, he has definitely dropped him. Said that Herrera fits better to the games plan: he is most definitely going back to the 4141 that worked so well last season.

Expect us to line up like this:

    De Gea
    Young Smalling Jones Blind
    Carrick
    Mata Herrera Fellaini Depay
    Martial
Also, said that it was "rhetorical question" when asked about his position if United lose this.

We are winning this. Stoke 1 - 2 United.

I strongly doubt Rooney's been 'dropped', we have a big game coming up in a few days and he probably wants him fresh for that. Though of course that doesn't quite tie in with the Caf narrative.
If he loses is, he probably won't be here for Saturday. He said this one was a must win game.

He was injured for two weeks and we lost both. It is nice to see him dropped while pressumably fit to play.

We've been playing 4141 since the Wolfsburg game.

I was in hospital so didnt watch last few games but if Rooney played and not in striker position, then we didnt play 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-1 properly because he is clueless in Anders role, last season he was like triangle destroyer.

Incredible how people jump from one must have player to the next .

Nice to see Herrera back. Rooney being made aware he's not unstoppable.

Fellaini really isn't as bad as made out. If he's in an attacking role, chances are he will cause havok as usual for the oppo defence.

    Martial...cough, cough...not Rooney...cough. :)

Rooney being praised for agreeing to warm up even though he's been dropped

Edit: This apparently proves how fantastic his attitude is.

Think it will just be the plain old 4-2-3-1 with Carrick and Fellani dropping in the CM role.

Louis looked as rough as a bear's arse getting off the team bus.

The lack of Rooney is good to see, the inclusion of Fellaini.....not so much.
Fellaini playing a position he did last year could be promising though with the same midfield behind him and better options in front.

Its like he deliberately sabotages the side so we lose when Rooney is out. Just put Morgan in and that team looked fricking solid. I think we will look good going forwards but be very shaky at the back.. going to be an exciting game this.

I will be hoping we win, it is a decent side after all - kudos LVG, please carry on like this.

Is it just me cos even if Schneiderlin wasn't fit enough to play, I'd rather have Pereira over Fellaini. The thought of Fellaini chasing the likes of Afellay, Shaqiri, Bojan et al just really really worries me. At least Pereira can Chase down a player if required!

    I couldnt watch anymore,started laughing so hard,scared i might bleed out,what a bunch

Stoke are a tall team, we need his height.

    UNITED XI
United team to face Stoke: De Gea, Young, Smalling, Jones, Blind, Carrick, Herrera, Mata, Fellaini, Memphis, Martial. Subs: Romero, Borthwick-Jackson, McNair, Varela, Pereira, Schneiderlin, Rooney.

I really hope Herrera can stay away from injuries and that he get the chance to run the show together with Carrick. Mata is not a creative midfielder in the way of Xavi or Scholes. I think he's more like Ariel Ortega. He should only be involved in the very last touches.

Fellaini to battle in midfield and Mata/Memphis to pressure for the ball. Martial will need to be super alert. If we happen to win the ball we should try to hit as fast as possible. Carrick should also try more speculative passes going forward.

The biggest problem for us today will be getting the back 4 to work as a unit. Young is a total mess when things get stressy. He's often the man sitting on his ass when the ball hits the back of our net. As other users already pointed out - we would be better off with a proper fullback (excluding Varela) or even just play 3 at the back.

I think this team has got enough offensive qualities to score at least 2 goals today. Almost every player from midfield except Carrick is able to produce about 5-10 goals per season, and statistically speaking we should be able to get a goal today.

    What are they saying?

They speak in massive generalised comments about United. It's like they don't actually watch us play, although to be fair I wouldn't blame anyone not wanting to watch us play.

Lots of nonsense about what United fans want and don't want based on what United fans they entertained at their Christmas dinner.

Phil Thompson, clearly loving it, is actually one of the most rational talkers when it comes to United, which just makes me feel dirty for saying. I need a shower.

You mis understand. It's got nothing to do with Fellaini. It's about our selection of DMs. Stoke play with pace on the break and Carrick has always been unable to track fast runners and now he's 34 it's glaring. I'm worried because our DMs offered no protection against Norwich and nothings changed in this fixture against a much better team.

It's not rocket science. We're in a physical, fast league and we're relying on a slow 34 year old as our DM.
