No idea why but I reallly fancy us to win this game handsomely. It’s always been a notoriously tricky place for united to win at but I think with Casemiro in the side and the bounce from Monday nights win, we will do this lot.

    DDG

    Dalot
    Varane
    Martinez
    Malacia

    Casemiro
    Eriksen
    Bruno

    Sancho
    Martial
    Rashford

    1-4

Looking at other side's fixtures at the weekend, everyone you'd expect to be "right up there" have very very winnable games: Chelsea at home to Leicester, Liverpool at home to Bournemouth, City at home to Palace and Arsenal play Fulham at the Emirates. Spurs are at Forest. We really need the three points to stop too large a gap opening up given our poor start

Chelsea are rubbish. Leicester can certainly turn them over. They have feck all going forward. They played about 7 defenders at home to Spurs.

Same as the line up against Liverpool, but Casemiro for MCT and Martial for Elanga.
I hope we don't become complacent after the impressive display against Liverpool.
Southampton 1-3 United (Martial, Sancho and Bruno)(RWP for Southampton.

I really like about ETH that he doesn’t seem to wait too long before changing things up, introducing new players or players after injuries. I expect Casemiro and Martial to start.

I’m optimistic about this one. 3-0 United.

Martial in for Elanga and Casamiro in for Scotty and I’d keep the same from the Liverpool game.

Not said this for a while but I think it should be the same team that started against Liverpool. They played really well so nobody deserves to be dropped.

If Elanga isn't fit (Subbed early last game) then I'd bring in Martial.

As much as people are still on the high from the game on Monday its time to put that win into perspective and realise that there is still a lot of work to be done. It was against a really hobbled team that plays a very specific way (extremely high line, full backs basically attacking all the time). Southampton will not play like this and as such, the team and style probably needs to change to adapt to the fact that its an away game against a team that will play very differently from Liverpool.

This is an interesting one. Does ETH stay with the counter or goes back to building his team?

I think if it's the latter, he is going to pick CR7 and Maguire again and a lot of folks are going to get mad here. If he wants to be on the counter, they're obviously gone.
Not sure I understand. Varane is no worse on the ball than Maguire really but I can sort of see that argument. Ronaldo is the definition of counter attacking player these days. He can’t hold the ball up in any form and thrives on one off chances. If ten hag is looking to dominate the ball then Martial is a much more logical choice.

Elanga played no longer than Martial against Liverpool. They played a half each, I’m not sure how relevant it is that Elanga played the first one.

Also, this is serious business, this nonsense of playing players out of some sort of kindness must stop immediately. We know that McTominay is not up to the standard, yet we voluntarily start him when we don’t have to?

Fair point on Martial. I'd be happy for either to play.

Nothing to do with kindness. It's about motivation. Play well = getting picked next game, Play badly = get dropped. McTominay had a really good game against Liverpool. Where is his incentive to play well if he gets kicked out of the team regardless?

But he’s played plenty. He knows, or should know, that at Manchester United he is a player who does not start if others are fit. The idea of Scott McTominay being involved in some sort of toss-up every week here is far fetched. He should not be in a position to earn his place, unless Casemiro somehow manages to be even worse than he has. If all are fit, he should not play. We’re not talking about Rashford vs Sancho here. We’re talking about Casemiro vs McTominay. Scott’s role should be clear.

I imagine Southampton will sit deeper but still try and press us high up the pitch at times.

We'll go back to having more of the ball so Mctominay should come out for Casemiro and Eriksen should keep the 8 spot.

Rashford might struggle against Southampton sitting deep but we've got to back him after that last performance. If it's not working Bruno might work better out there with Malacia, and Fred or Donny could come into midfield.

It’s crazy how things can change in just a matter of months. Martial who was roundly written off by many (for good reasons), is now back in everyone’s starting 11 as a must start. Just goes goes to show how a great manager can change the mood surrounding a club.

    3-0 hopefully

1 each for Eriksen, Martial and Bruno to kick start their seasons

De Gea- Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia- Casemiro, Eriksen, Bruno - Sancho, Martial, Rashford

seems to pick itself this week.

    1-2 win, Martial and Bruno

It's a game that will suit Bruno. Hope he has plenty of time to recover from his exertions on Monday. Mix it up, keep them guessing, I would say. Sometimes play out, sometimes go long. Stretch the fabric, make them run. Looking forward to seeing Casemiro. Ericson to score from Bruno assist.

Hey @Niall (greetings) where is Casemiro? Not in prediction lineup. Presumably he will be able to play next weekend.

Teams will start attacking us like the RVP season especially away from home. United should comfortably win if the attacking players are in form. Just dont succumb to the high press.

Yep by a mile. It’s like some people don’t watch the games.
It's the AWB brigade who just want to bring anything in their favor. Dalot isn't any good yet but he is far better than AWB in all aspects. People will just argue other wise for another 6 months and when he is eventually loaned out or sold to a lower end team, this moaning will stop.

not me! h's a number 9 but doesn't get the goals needed by a centre forward. we need to buy one before the window closes

    No he is not.

Than AWB? Of course he is.

Dalot's aerial duel win percentages in previous seasons where he played regularly were 63.3%, 71.0% and 81.5%. Meanwhile the best AWB had managed in his entire career (for us or for Palace) is 56.8%.

And as those stats suggest, the difference is (or should be) pretty apparent just from watching them.

If he plays well I don't care if his name is Jonny Shufflebotttom, he should be playing. Scott has been poor for a while but the entire team have...... Until Monday. If he were to play like he did on Monday every week then he's a good player. Or have you fully written him off with no chance of redemption?

I agree that the most likely event is McTom will fail again though.

A long time ago. Not even about redemption. I’ve never considered him to be in ‘poor form’, I consider him a poor player. His performance against Liverpool was not some sort of midfield masterclass that will struggle to be bettered either, so let’s not waste time with this IMO. You have a player who has been the world’s best in his position, then you have a player who has been amongst the PL’s worst. It’s not a thing to string out. He should be sold frankly, but at the very least, he should be dropped. Especially when you have Casemiro waiting!

Would you throw Casemiro in from the start after the good result? Surely you would bring him on to take the pressure off

If he’s fit and available, then absolutely.

I’d personally only make two changes from the Liverpool game - Casemiro & Martial in for McTominay & Elanga.
