For Mourinho I would guess he has taken last year into account where Martial was out of form whereas Rashford was one of the players with the most games under his belt. Imo, Mourinho most likely prefers Rashford for this reason. He seems to be coming around on Martial.

That's my biggest issue about this whole thing, the made up crap against Martial to justify some selections from the manager.

There is also this annoying thing about limiting Martial abilities in order to justify his exclusion. Was never going to start after playing 90min. Rashford was also arguably better than Martial against Burton, scoring 2 and assisting 1. Rashford only played 60min. too.

I believe Rashford is the chosen one. Jose has a local talent of genuine ability and a real chance to make it, and also given him a perfect testimony of youth development. I believe he will be afforded every chance to become a first teamer, whereas Martial will only get that chance if Rashford first fails to take his. I suspect that, as long as Rashford performs reasonably well, Martial can never be a regular.

The likelihood is that Rashford will eventually pull away from Martial anyway. Martial has done incredibly well to hang in there so far, and this is why I suspect Jose has been more objective on the topic in press conferences. It couldn't have been expected he would make such a statement with such little cameos, and then there would be no debate at all. The chances are, unless his sub appearances start earning him regular starts, he will inevitably fall behind anyway, as it is unrealistic to keep expecting him to do more in 20 mins than Rashford does in 70. Sooner or later, all the justification needed will be provided for Martial to be second choice. It will be on the basis 'Rashford is playing better'. Martial has done extremely well for that not to be the case so far given the circumstances.

I think your sentiments are too negative. I agree that Rashford has made the left flank his own, nevertheless the season is very long and Martial is at least one injury away of replacing one of Mata, Lukaku or Rashford. Mourinho isn't known for it, but i think he will rotate from time to time and similar to last season when Martial played against the likes of Chelsea i can see it happen again.

Moreover i think Martial is perfect for coming on later, everyone knows he likes to run with the ball at his feet and he's a good dribbler, so despite Rashford starting and maybe scoring more goals, i can still see Martial having big impacts on games.

Finally my original point was that IMO a lot of fans don't have a problem with Rashford on the field.

But why didn't Jose buy a LB in the summer. He clearly doesn't like Shaw. Darmian is wobbly there as well.
