Why ? He's second choice at best behind Rashford

Because Rashford had a little knock and Martial played well. Mourinho also praised him yesterday.

He’s not “second choice”, he’s in competition for that position and has had a couple of starts ahead of Rashford, I thought he’d grasped the opportunity.

Same team that played against Everton as expected. Martial can be brought on for the last 20-30 minutes when he'll be a lot more effective.

Not sure about us going with Matic and Fellaini against their 3 but Jose obviously feels we have enough firepower to get the job done.

You certainly can't accuse him of being negative this season!

Not a fan of Fellaini in a midfield two, but hopefully it works out.

Also think Martial should have started ahead of Rashford today.

Young needs to have better defensive awareness today, last week Martina had a lot of joy down our left

 In the one competition that actually matters, he's got 1/6 starts and didn't play bad, back on the bench for the next one. Rashford has 5/6 starts and his match against Everton was absolutely horrible. How much clearer does it have to be that Rashford is first choice, i mean, christ

As a striker. Why not drop Lukaku then?
Why would he? Both Martial and Rashford played well on Wednesday so it's a toss up between them. Too many here are too personally invested in one individual.

Meh, sooner rather than later Martial would need more start in the PL and he deserves it.

Should have actually been picked as our LW today but him being dropped was expected.

Wondering is Herrera thinking "how the feck it got to this?!"

If he is then he is an idiot and clearly not watching the others in front of him.

Fortunately for him I get the feeling he is well aware of what's going on and accepts he will have to wait for his chance and then take it

How were you sure Young would be played? The rest I was sure about, but couldn't decide between Blind or Young.
it's easy, because Blind played 90 minutes against Burton and he needs to rest for our next match, so Young is the best choice for today's match

He's second choice. Having a couple of start in cup games doesn't change anything. This would be Rashford 5th start in the Prem to Martial 1 and I expect Rashford to once again start against Palace regardless of his performance today.

why on earth would you do that ,he is playing well.

The reason was given. The fact that his deputy scored 2 goals.

If we are doing the picking on form thing, Rashford playing up front and scoring 2 should be putting pressure on the striker, not Martial, who did his own job fine.

I don't think Lukaku should have been dropped by the way.

How were you sure Young would be played? The rest I was sure about, but couldn't decide between Blind or Young.
Blind just had 90' a few days ago when Shaw was in at 46', so Mourinho wasn't thinking of protecting him, and Blind isn't a machine like Valencia.

Yea, he's clearly second choice to me. Nobody is using Romero's Cup appearance, or even Lindelof's to demonstrate 'competition'. He's played both Cup games too, but we know Bailly and Jones will start at the weekend.

Southampton have a good team, but their CBs look suspect,. If we can get at them, we have a good chance of winning. Hoedt and Yoshida are their relative weakness compared to the rest

If he's smart, he'll answer himself: “it got to this by fecking winning all games without me!”

Pogba played in most of those. Why's he behind Fellaini as well? I rate Fellaini but he's not as good as Ander.

I don't know why some people are in denial about this.

Do you believe Rashford's 6 starts to 2 have been a reflection of the difference in their performances this season?

Have to be careful of Lemina, he's a cracking player. Their fullbacks are always dangerous as well, going to be harder to tire them out than our other opposition fullbacks that we've faced. They've got good options on the bench as well. Reckon this could be one of our hardest games yet.

Do you believe Rashford's 6 starts to 2 have been a reflection of the difference in their performances this season?
I think both have played well. But clearly Mourinho rates Rashford as better for his team than Martial. I'm not sure why this comes as a surprise to people when it's been evident for a year.

When Martial comes on to score the winner, many will say he should've started. It's all part of Jose's plan, Rashford will tire them out and Martial will come on to finish them.
