Really torn due to fitness of some players. I can see EtH going with largely the same players as the last two games bar the obvious omissions (Varane, Martinez, Bruno).

Shaw at CB is a big one - you'd assume that he will start there against Brighton with Lindelof. So, do we start him here and play 60-70 minutes next to Lindelof/Maguire or not? Main reason is I can see EtH wanting to use Shaw at CB more-so than continuing with Maguire+Lindelof until Varane is back. Maybe even when Varane is back he will stick with Shaw and use Dalot/Malacia on the left.

I think it's a tough decision as do we play Maguire while we can to give other players more of a chance to overcome knocks fully or just take the risk to play who most of us think are better players and fit EtH system more? I'm sure EtH will make the right call.

Midfield I would expect a starting duo of Casemiro and Eriksen, with the latter probably not playing 90 minutes yet if we can get away with it. It will be Fred or Sabitzer in the other role, I'd hope the latter but wouldn't be worried if we start with Fred.

Antony & Sancho probably start - Rashford on the bench if he's ready. I know EtH has mentioned wanting to ease Martial back in, I was convinced that Weghorst would start one of Forest, Sevilla, or Brighton but now I'm just thinking EtH will go with Martial for the foreseeable now but try as much as possible to take him off early.

I believe it would be a huge boost to the squad ahead of two big games to have the whole quartet back for tomorrow.

Losing both our starting centre backs in the same match and Bruno being suspended, we need leaders and getting especially Rashford & Shaw back could have a huge effect.

That being said I naturally hope we don’t rush them back too soon, no matter how big a game.

Really crucial to score first here. Would not want to be chasing a game against these.

Be interesting to see how we line up with players coming back into the fold/Brighton on the weekend.

Can't see Eriksen starting all 3 games following last weekend. Wouldn't be surprised to see:

v Sevilla: DDG; AWB, Lindelof, Maguire, Dalot; Fred, Casemiro, Sabitzer; Antony, Sancho, Martial

v Brighton: DDG; AWB, Lindelof, Shaw, Dalot; Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes; Antony, Rashford, Martial
Agree about Eriksen not starting all 3 games so soon after his return - but, for me, he simply has to start in Sevilla while we're already without Fernandes for that game.

I know Casemiro, Fernandes and Eriksen work great together - but I don't think we can afford to go into a game without the creativity of either Eriksen or Fernandes. So start Eriksen against Sevilla, and the returning Fernandes against Brighton.

Sabitzer back training as well. Could play as the more advanced midfielder with Eriksen and Casemiro tomorow maybe.

We will need some luck to go our way for once. Confident , that we can beat them. But our luck in Europe is horrendous.

I'd keep Rashford on the bench for Sunday. Bring him on if we go up shit creek. Thankfully away goals don't count so Sevilla still need to win and can't shithouse a draw to progress (although they may play for penalties).

Great to see some players returning.

Feel quite relaxed about this game. Will be very happy to win and go through, but expectations are not too high after last week's disaster so if we don't win, so be it.

Would hate to see Sevilla go on to win though. Feck them.

I agree. I’d probably rest Eriksen against Brighton and potentially look at bringing Fred in with casemiro against Brighton’s tenacious midfield. Bruno in 10.

    Decent home form in 2023. P9 W7 D1 L1

Don't forget, Sevilla rested about 7 players from their regular starters in order to prioritise their league game v Valencia. That worked perfectly for them as they (somehow) got a great result against us, and then won that important league game.
I imagine we'll be facing their first team this time around - at their ground - so it'll be a much tougher task and how weakened our team is this time around, or how many of our players return in time, may be crucial.

I tend to use logic to predict a result and I have to say the odds are heavily in their favour.
Sevilla are specialists at winning Europa League matches.
We can win (anything can happen on the night), but my logical prediction is a win for them.
We have better players with a far more expensive squad, but over the years, I've seen our team of superstars get smashed by lesser teams.

But they rested players because they’re so shit they’re in a relegation battle? And it’s not as if it worked out that well performance wise, they should have lost that 4-0 at least.
We should go through, if we do or not is another question

Bono is a penalty specialist keeper, don’t forget about that. We saw it at the WC where he saved several. As such, it is not in our best interest to have a penalty shootout

We have a goalkeeper I'm confident will never save a penalty so a shootout is never in our interest.

How dare they smile and laugh before we're through!

I cannot stop thinking Sevilla - playing as cr*ppy as they can - will knock out Man Utd just because they are the most succesful club in this competition.

I see Feyenoord having options too.

    UNITED'S SQUAD FOR SEVILLA (A)

    Goalkeepers
: David De Gea, Jack Butland, Radek Vitek.

Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Midfielders: Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Fred, Zidane Iqbal, Marcel Sabitzer.

Forwards: Antony, Anthony Elanga, Anthony Martial, Facundo Pellistri, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Wout Weghorst.

A stronger squad than we could've hoped for after the Forest game.

Glad to see Shaw & Sabitzer back, I expect them to start.

Rash may start depending on how he looked/felt after training but we could see him rested until needed/called upon for Sancho

    I'd play:

    DDG
    AWB Lindelof Shaw Dalot
    Casemiro
    Sabitzer Eriksen
    Antony_________ Sancho
    Martial

Bring on Maguire for Shaw if can't handle 90
Rashford for Sancho on 60 if Sancho isn't making anything happen
Fred for Eriksen on 60 if we are leading
Pellistri on at 80 minutes if we need a goal

    I'd play:

I personally think we have to start Rashford over Sancho. This competition is there to be won!

    Martial

i wouldnt start either rashford or eriksen for this game. Need to make sure we manage this game load until the end of season, and see out this top 4 spot. Both should come in for some minutes if fitness allows. First half will prob be cagey half anyways, so see it out and try and make that second half push. This game and sunday would be nice to win, but winning both and having more injuries come up could be a win the battle but lose the war situation.

This will be the obvious team but I think
ETH prefers Lindelof and Maguire and will leave Shaw and Rashford on the bench so same team but Lindelof for shaw and Sancho for Rashford, both will come on about 55-60 minutes

How confident are people about United progressing?

After those 2 late goals at OT, I can't see past a typical Sevilla shithouse performance with lots of rolling around, time wasting, referee pressurising and a jammy shit goal from nothing

We don’t know what awaits us according to rakitic. Mate you’re near the bottom of La liga calm down.

Good to see Shaw,Sabitzer,Rashford added to the traveling squad. Be interesting to see will they start or brought on as subs, either way hopefully they and along with their teammates provide an impact to topple this lucky Seviila team.

    I'd play:

    DDG
    AWB Lindelof Shaw Dalot
    Casemiro
    Sabitzer Eriksen
    Antony_________ Sancho

Fred for Eriksen on 60 if we are leading
Pellistri on at 80 minutes if we need a goal

This is what I'd do as well, but with Bruno out, you can rest assured that Captain Slabhead will be on the field.

    De Gea

    Shaw
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    AWB

    Casemiro
    Eriksen

    Sancho
    Sabitzer
    Antony

    Martial

If that eleven can't get a lead against a toothless mid-table Spanish team, we don't have any business advancing.

I wouldn't risk Rashford in this one unless we need a goal late.

How confident are people about United progressing?
I think for all intents and purposes we're out of the Europa League. They'll have home advantage, they'll have their best players - and we struggled against the B team -, they'll have confidence after last week's result and their win against Valencia. And of course they'll have whatever dark magic propels them forward in this bloody competition.

We have about a 0.1% chance. That's about it.

What % chance would you give it if Rashford is 100% fit?

Not like you to be so negative.

Hard to say. All the other factors I mentioned are still valid even with Rashford there. We'd definitely have a better chance with him but Sevilla would still be favourites.

It's all academic though because Rashford almost certainly isn't 100% yet.

    Yeah, fair points.

I did say that it worked for them because they '(somehow) got a great result' in the first leg. As you say, performance wise our strong team should have got a deserved comfortable win over their second string. How the hell it ended 2-2 was amazing.

With the news that four of our players are back in the squad then we should, hopefully, have enough to still go through but it's going to be tough to go to Sevilla and win, even if they're not as good as usual this season.

I'm hoping the players who only missed one game - Sabitzer and Malacia - should he fit to start (though we may keep Dalot at LB after Malacia's first leg performance). I imagine Rashford and Shaw - who have missed much longer - will only be used from the bench rather than rushed back as starters.

It's just great to see them back in the squad. And with the news that Garnacho is showing positive progress then there's at least an easing of the potential 'injury crisis' that was building.
