If any of our players can't cope with players being that close they shouldn't be on the pitch. The 3rd player is barely anywhere near him when the pass is made.

Varane and Martinez handle it with ease.

Nope, playing out the back doesn’t mean limiting your passing range to five yards. Someone like Martínez is uniquely good at dealing with a situation like that, doesn’t mean we should look to do it. Like I said, they’re both at fault, you shouldn’t play that pass with 3 men close in each direction, Maguire shouldn’t ask for it but then his touch lets him down which makes the issue worse. Poor from both.

De Gea passing it there was a needless risk. He also had an option to pass to in Wan Bissaka, who was open with nobody even close to him. Two perfectly good options and one terrible one. Which one does De Gea go for? The terrible one.
