Nice to see us counter attacking again and an exciting game! It's obviously just papering over cracks against a poor side who are actually attacking (we're clueless if teams defend) but nice to watch nontheless :)

Any direct flights from Newcastle to Milan? Fellaini has been awful. Terrible terrible player!

Smalling was at fault for the goal but Fellaini needs to come off in the second half.

There is a bizzare scaremongering hatred against Fellaini on here. Yeah he's not good enough for us, but tonight he's been better by Morgan by some distance.

We will have to score more because we'll let in more than 1 goal.

Can't believe we're losing this at half time after such a good performance, 44-56%. Guess Louis is right afterall.

All the signs before the penalty were that it was going to be SSDD. But we got a penalty, albeit luckily, and once we score thats when we begin to open up, both in offence and defence.

Better, but still poor overall IMO. The decisions have mostly been wrongly in our favour.

We're countering fast but Newcastle are beyond woeful at the back. Herrera has been excellent. We've been cut open twice by them though and they should've had a pen.

Seems like I'm in the minority, but I didn't like that half. Felt like we were pretty mediocre up against a poor Newcastle team. Want to see more in the 2nd half.

That pass from Fellaini was criminal, play football at ANY level and you'll know that. You clear your lines, when you have the ball the defenders automatically step up, play a stupid pass like that and the whole defence is disorganised and under pressure which is why smalling lost his man. It's not like we're criticising Fellaini for the feck of it.

I can see it now. We loose 3-2 or draw 2-2

"as you can see I think, we score 2 goals"
" we show that we can score but when we try we loose goals "
Yep I can see a 2-2 draw and it's seen as United can show attacking intent so more progress.

Enjoyable to watch, shame about the bunch of cnuts commentating on BT Sport, gave up after 20 mins and turned the sound off & listening to music instead.

That's more like it! Disappointing goal to concede, though. It'd be very frustrating if we don't win after going 2-0 up, but our defence really isn't good enough.

Newcastle are shit... like, really really shit... but then we've played shit teams before and done bugger all (*cough* PSV) so yeah, we've been decent... which is nice.

Relentless in attack but shaky in defense. Fellaini tries his best to play in midfield but moments of comedy unfolding.

People keep saying this but hasn't the first half goal issue been largely at Old Trafford? I didn't think it had been an issue away from home?

Well okay but we still scored and I haven't been contemplating alcoholism. That's a win in my book.

no matter what fellaini is absolutely awful, dont really unerstand how can he start ahead of pereira, its just bullshit decision, I can see better pressure off the ball and better control of the game with the youngster on the pitch Fellaini only seems to have some advantage in the air but he's awfull header of the ball for his height and he's mobility of a stegosaurus, fecking awfull, he could be sent off easily just before the penalty claim when the play went on.. ridiculous he has to start for some sort of nonexistent balance..

Herrera so far the best United player, good turnaround, give the game higher tempo and he will thrive

Fellaini has a more forward role then Schneiderlin. Schneiderlin is there purely to protect the back four and Fellaini is there for the transition to Herrera to open up the play and therefore you will see Fellaini much more exposed because he has not the footballing ability to lead the transition in my opinion.

It's been good. It's been entertaining. Much better than the usual 0-0.

Need to tighten things up a bit, we can do them on the counter.

Agree with this. Not sure it's been "good", but it's definitely been better. The wonder of an early goal opens up the opposition so much. I know it's anti-philosophy, but we ought to just let them have the ball and hit them quick on the counter. LVG will hate it but we could stick 2 or 3 more past this team if we play that way.

We are actually countering. Less possession is better.

    Wijnaldum is class.

Fellaini not winning that header is so poor. What is the point if he can't do that? He's two fouls away from a red also.

Who would people out on for Fellaini? The bench is rather thin. Bring on McNair and move Blind up?

Could always bring on Mata and shift Herrera alongside Schneiderlin, but I reckon LVG would have a heart attack at the prospect of an attack minded player playing that deep.

That is what pace does! Totally stretching the defense apart.

Yep, when we scored our open play goal today, we had stretched Newcastle's players, allowing us to score.
Normally, with our slow build up, we wait for the opposition defence to line themselves up nicely, then we try and thread the ball through 8 defenders and GK - unsuccessfully.

We actually look dangerous on the break, don't think the RW suits Martial but he's doing his best, Lingard and Herrera's movement has been good. Should finish this off in the 2nd half as Newcastle have to push forwards.

I think getting Fellaini off, despite winning some good defensive headers, would make sense as he's close to a red.
