Well there's been a lot of questioning his overall fitness level, so I guess if LvG is trying to increase that he's probably training pretty hard.

    De Gea
    Valencia--Smalling--Rojo--Shaw
    Herrera--Blind--Di Maria
    Januzaj--Rooney--Young

subs: Valdes, Jones, Carrick, Fellaini, Mata, Falcao, Wilson

Only thing that worries me about that team is the lack off physicality mainly in our midfield. I think that is one of the main reasons why Rooney was playing in midfield for quite a while. But we have Carrick and Fellaini as options if needed.

    Dave
    Valencia - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
    Herrera - Blind
    Mata
    Januzaj - Rooney - Young

I would go exactly with this too, don't think it will happen as were most likely to see Angel play but I do think Falcao will be dropped.

    ---------De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Januzaj Herrera Blind Young
    ------Rooney Falcao

Good old 4-4-2. Start with this team and get at Newcastle from the off, if Falcao has his usual mare we then have Fellaini to chuck on or Mata. Di Maria needs some time on the bench for me, maybe he will make more of an impact off the bench against tired opposition.

Head says 1-1 but heart says 1-3.

    This season is certainly crazy.

Imagine sombody stating that they would rather start Ashley Young over Angel Di Maria and hoping Falcao is benched for Fellaini this time last year!

    Louis Van Gaal press conference:

    Gimme:

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera Di Maria
    Januzaj Rooney Young

The myth that Van Gaal has said "Shaw is tired" should go away......tight hamstrings was the reason

It's not a myth, he did say 'tired' in the pre-game interview. After the game he said he has tight hamstrings.

I have a good feeling about the game today. I think we'll score a minimum 3 goals and will see Di Maria show his early season form.

I hope so because I feel completely opposite since this is an away match.

But a journalist (I think from the Manchester Evening News) guessed that Van Gaal meant "Tight hamstrings" and not "tired" in the pre-game interview.
But who cares now hopefully Shaw is fit for today. :)

Matchday on Wednesday.....a great feeling

It's the hope that kills...that hope that suddenly things will click, then after 15 minutes..you realise it isn't going to and whether we win or not..it's going to be one hell of a frustrating slog for the rest of the match.

The thing that has me feeling more confident than I should is the John Carver factor. He looks way out of his depth as manager and their results and performances have been pretty bad since he took over from Pardew. I'm sure he'll be gone at the end of the season. We should certainly feel confident Louis can outsmart him tactically.

That said, Newcastle usually raise their game against the bigger sides. Their team are going to be motivated to try and get one over on us and it'll be a sell out crowd tonight to roar them on. It's going to be tough. We'll need a top performance to get the three points tonight. And given our own inconsistencies, I definitely have enough nagging doubts about tonight to make me really nervous all day long as I think about how this match may play out.

This is going to be a longggggggg day waiting for kick off tonight. :(

Tbh, I don't dare to hope anymore  It feels like a waste, I have completely reduced my expectation of Utd football matches down to the final result basically.

Just got a feeling we're going to see something like this.

I think he'll go safety first and look to have Fellaini in the side as a loose forward drifting around to impose himself and be a high ball target for Di Maria and Young to aim for. Think Di Maria will be given the nod again too and following Young's good and Evans' standard bad performance, we'll see Rojo return to the centre and seek to control the midfield completely.

I'd also like to think that an inverted full back may help Di Maria get the fundamentals back in shape after a difficult game. While Young will go down the outside, he'll mainly cut in to cross, Di Maria can drift wide and cross with his left so we force Janmaat to keep defensive cover and restrict his forward runs by the ever present threat of our movement, and unpredictability down the left.

Fellaini should definitely start this IMO. I don't care if we win ugly, we just need to start picking up wins on the road.

Going with a 1-3 win. Cross the fingers!

Didn't realise the Newcastle squad was so depleted. Am more confident of a win now. Will be interesting to see if Di Maria keeps his spot or if Adnan starts.

Tiote, Colback & Cabella all missing for them must surely help us tonight.

Looking at the rest of our away fixtures this is the one that looks the most winnable IMO. (We also have Hull on the last day but they could be fighting relegation)

    This 100%.

Actually, I usually get the hopes back up after the first wave of despair has faded away (or the beers have sunk in) and I keep watching the clock thinking that we still have plenty of time left to start clicking.

For some reason I'm excited about this match, even it's a midweek away kickoff. Maybe it's the Spring.

This is a must must win (well every match from now on is.. ) Since the scouse are at home against Burnley and will win that. However, should we win then there's a decent chance we could move ahead of Arsenal who's facing QPR away..

I'm bloody dreading every single away match, but at the same time I'm oddly optimistic and pumped! Come on United!

Feel bad before every away match. Hope we raise our game and play with confidence. 2-1 United. Come on.

I hope so. It'd be a good one for him.

Plus, when he starts he plays more than the knock down role he does as a sub.

Playing with two up front away from home hasn't worked all season, surely it's time to try something different to improve our away form which as it stands will cost us a top four spot.

Time to drop falcao and bring in any of mata, januzaj or fellaini and play Rooney as the lone striker. I don't think it will happen and we will probably watch falcao toil up front for an hour or so before being subbed off and match will probably be a draw.
