These team selections are just bizarre. Not sure how the hell Young is getting back in the side after his display against Spurs, Jones too for that matter.

Same 4-2-3-1 again and again. Newcastle will be up for this and if we play like we did at Wembley we will lose.

    Same as Spurs so.

Not happy with the line-up but resist saying anything else until I see us play. Lets trash these.

With Ibrahimovich going, I'm certain we'll bring in one more attacker.
One injury and we have non on the bench.

Let's see if we can make this line-up work against a lesser team than Spurs. I can see this game decide how we approach the rest of the season in terms of formation/players.

    Martial on the right wing:drool:
Let's play Valencia left back whilst we're at it, make the race for second a bit interesting.

Would prefer Shaw over young but obviously if we get the first goal then We'll hammer them imo

Good team on paper. Hate this 4231 shite though. Got to move away from that i think.

Whatever, lets beat these bastards! Come on lads

Not saying it is, but it could be a 4-3-3 with Lingard #8, like Burnley away. But that means Martial or Sánchez on the right.

Let's see how this will work on the pitch.

It's the same lineup as that crap Spurs game so I'm a bit cautious.

Good lineup... although when we’re all happy, we usually play shite :nervous:

Lingard will never be good enough to be part of midfield 3 (that also includes Pogba), I rather we just played Scott and let the Pogba loose but whatever, it should be enough to beat them anyway.

Partly agree, but any plan for that match was undone by the early goal.

Sorry but what's that logic ?

Just because a player had a bad game, doesn't mean such a player should never start again !

If Newcastle play like they did against City at home, then Pogba and Matic will have all the time in the world in midfield, so I'm not too concerned for them.

Shaw in, Young out. Maybe even Herrera in for Lingard to make a midfield three and more stability. Other than that, happy enough.

Herrera is apparently injured, so your idea is a non starter.

Wonder why José keeps persisting with Young at left back when he continually sings Shaw's praises? Really strange.

Shaw is our best LB. He should be starting on form as well. Young has been poor recently and he just walks straight into the team. What does Shaw have to do to get an extended run in the team?

What is wrong with Sanchez on the right??
Nothing, we all were hoping he would play there, specially with Mata out. But that's the one position he's still to play at United.

Stupid not to start Mata in place of Martial, he has been in great form. An away game to a team fighting relegation is never an easy fixture like some will have you believe in this thread.

Nice to see Martial back in the lineup. Young ahead of Shaw is no surprise. Despite what some think, Young is the first choice. Shaw will play in the cup then Young will start for the CL.
Aren't we playing CL first then the cup?

Like anyone I would have preferred Shaw continuing his run uninterrupted. Despite Young doing quite well for himself this year, Shaw has come back strong and doing well himself and he is the future, so might as well start nailing who should be our left back for years to come now rather than persist with Young.

The Spurs game showed Young defencive deficiency. Let just stick with Shaw.

Martial back in. Hopefully he's on the left, which means either:

    Lukaku
    Martial Lingard Sanchez

    Or

    Lukaku
    Martial Sanchez Lingard

Would like to see the top one, although I can imagine there's going to be plenty interchanging between Sanchez and Lingard.

We just need to make sure at least one player is keeping the width, otherwise we become too narrow and easy to play against.

I like the way Spurs set up their three behind the striker.

Son on the left, who keeps the width, with Alli making runs in behind and Eriksen cutting inside and playmaking.

Martial (width) Lingard (runner) Sanchez (playmaker)

Martial got us the points the last time we won away from home.

Why Shaw keeps losing his place i'll never know, I wouldn't be playing Jones/Smalling together either.

Fair to say Jose thinks this is the best starting 11 he currently has, picked this team against Spurs and wants to give it another shot, must believe in it.

Personally I would have gone with Shaw over Young, Shaw by far the best defender of the two. Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

    Where is Rashford?

Think Shaw should be starting to be honest.

Martial has been our best player in January, in even better form than Mata. Why should he drop?
