These team selections are just bizarre. Not sure how the hell Young is getting back in the side after his display against Spurs, Jones too for that matter.

Same 4-2-3-1 again and again. Newcastle will be up for this and if we play like we did at Wembley we will lose.

This post is bizzare considering how good Young and Jones have been this season.

Martial back in. Hopefully he's on the left, which means either:

    Lukaku
    Martial Lingard Sanchez

    Or

    Lukaku
    Martial Sanchez Lingard

Would like to see the top one, although I can imagine there's going to be plenty interchanging between Sanchez and Lingard.

We just need to make sure at least one player is keeping the width, otherwise we become too narrow and easy to play against.

I like the way Spurs set up their three behind the striker.

Son on the left, who keeps the width, with Alli making runs in behind and Eriksen cutting inside and playmaking.

Martial (width) Lingard (runner) Sanchez (playmaker)
Seems Newcastle are very bad defending from the wings, so I would like to see the second one.

Stupid not to start Mata in place of Martial, he has been in great form. An away game to a team fighting relegation is never an easy fixture like some will have you believe in this thread.

Martial is our first choice winger, Mata isn't. Time enough for Mata to come on if we are struggling.

3 defenders and no striker only Mata as AM on bench. What happen to Rashford? Cant believe there will be a day i'm counting Young and Valencia as defender.:lol:
I refused to believe Mou wont enter next transfer window without attacker shopping list now. With Ibra almost gone it would only leave us with Rashford and Mata as option

I hope Martial plays on the left and Sanchez on the right drifting into the centre. Otherwise, like Tottenham we will lack balance.

11/11 but with Rashford and Herrera as my subs. You win some you lose some.

Why Shaw keeps losing his place i'll never know, I wouldn't be playing Jones/Smalling together either.
Shaw and Young are alternating games, seems Mourinho thinks they have similar value right now and he uses them differently (Young tougher away games, Shaw home easier ones).

I thought a midfield two didn't work with Pogba?

Or is it okay to do against the 'lesser sides'?

Decent lineup. I’ll never be happy with pogba in a 2 though I think we might struggle there but it should be fine.

Would have preferred to see Shaw rather than Young, and a place for Rojo - but I usually trust JM to make the right call, even when he doesn't !!

Not got a good feeling about today - I'm expecting a very scrappy draw and hoping I'm wrong.

Haven’t got many options off the bench when get a couple of injuries have we. 3 defenders on the bench. May as well have stuck a youth attacker on.

4-2-3-1 has been absolutely fine for 95% of the season, we shouldn't change it unnecessarily. Against the big teams sure stick an extra body in there but can fully understand the reasoning we haven't gone 3 in midfield against Newcastle.

Newcastle missing Slimani, which I rate, through injury. And starting a new keeper, Dubravka, let's hope he doesn't put up a big show.

The press? Or jamie fecking Redknapp?

Rashford knows where his bread is buttered. He will be here for life.

I hope so! He’d be stupid to listen to that oxygen thief!

If Rashford gets his down and take his chances and get some form he will play. Simple as that.

No Rashford or Fellaini, and Zlatan still out makes our bench very lacking in offensive options. Even Herrera being out adds to this. There's literally only Mata who can provide anything and I don't think he's as effective from the bench. Up to the players in the starting XI to do the business.

Should have probably put Angel Gomes on the bench again haha

Think we will struggle again, but hopefully nick a win.

I'd really like to us to start Shaw, Young isn't a left back.

What team would you have played with the available options??
Yeah, seriously. Both Herrera and Fellaini are injured. All our best players fit into 4231. Yet just to accomodate Pogba, everyone wants to play 433.

I have a friend who supports Newcastle, says their game plan is usually coming out firing on all cylinders, hopefully snatching a goal and then tiring by about 25 minutes.

He's literally had one poor game this season and that was against Spurs who dominated the midfield and loaded up on him and he had Alexis ahead of him who he's never played with so had little positional synergy.
