ETH has got this one wrong so far. Hopefully he fixes it at half time

Bog standard performance. Shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. We’re just not a very aesthetically good/coherent football team. Probably win the game but how do people on here watch this team and predict/expect them to be in the title race….

Terrible first half of football. Misplaced passes galore, very sloppy. We seem devoid of creativity and like others have said we look a yard off the pace like they’ve been ran into the ground in training. Pretty concerning but hopefully ETH goes through them at half time and we see a much improved 2nd half.

Terrible half. Team has gone back in terms of play. Reminded me of dark times that we had to endure past 10 years. Just hoping to counter

The best the team has looked in years was the Eriksen, Casemiro and Bruno. It's up there with Pogba, Herrera and Matic. Sometimes a balanced midfield has a greater effect than one pumped with talented individuals. Unfortunately it's not working because the balance.

Clearly a system issue as Casemiro is being left completely isolated as mount is too high and/or the fullback isn't tucking in quick enough

The most worrying part though is they look quicker and stronger to a man. Wolves look mid season fitness and we still look in pre-season mode

But isn’t this the system Ten Hag wants to play, that’s why he signed Mount? The signing made no sense with Bruno in the team. Our CM regularly gets turned over in midfield and we’ve done nothing to strengthen it.

This team will struggle to score 60 goals, and we are leaking chances all over. Shit half
Early days however the 4-1-2-3 formation might actually get ETH the sack if he’s PL record is like Pre Season, he needs another top midfielder next to Casemiro then we can dominate the opposition, teams will be licking their lips to play this united side it’s far too open ?

Now that I think about it, when was the last time we had a good game against Wolves? They've always been awful games that we've managed to win or draw with a single goal. Such a shit team to face.

Well that was bad. Started aimlessly, conceded a few bad chances, got better around 30 mins but nothing to write home about, ended pretty even. New manager effect is working well for Wolves, they are very organized and working very hard. You can easily see what a striker can bring to a team, just watch Cunha. Newcastle and Isak did the same last season. Need Hojlund fit asap.

As for changes, Garnacho needs to come off. EtH probably won't take him off at HT, but it needs to be soon. He has taken every wrong option available and players are getting frustrated at him. Casemiro isn't fast enough for this 3-1-6 to work, one of Bruno/Mount needs to drop deeper.

I'm frankly a bit worried. Hopefully we just show up in the second half like we tend to do and win this comfortably.

    Poor game so far.

I would take Garnacho off at half time. Huge prospect but he is killing every attack in this match.

Would also consider taking off Martinez for Lindelof due to the yellow and looks a bit off the pace by his standards.

One of Bruno and Mount needs to drop deeper and player next to Casemiro to allow us to control the midfield more.

couldn’t agree more, Bruno looks ace when he drops a bit deeper I don’t think mount can do it to be honest. Need more potency in the attack for sure

Onana is going to make zero difference when there is such a lack of movement in midfield and attack. What exactly are the coaching staff doing with these players?

He was bad, but at least he was involved and got on the ball and got into attacking positions. Rashford on the other hand is still apparently on holiday
We were playing down the left for the most part. We weren't getting the ball to Rashford, hence why he's started to drift out to the left and has been dangerous when he has. With us playing down the left, Garnacho's inability to do anything has impacted our play massively. Get someone else on and watch our play improve.

Does anybody have an idea what the plan is starting attacks? It looks like the defenders and Case are asked to stay in their own half and the rest stay almost on line 30 meters up the field. There's no cohesion and there doesn't seem to be any plan on how to move the ball up the field.

Feel bad for Garnacho, it's clear he wants to do so much, his inexperience shines through. He'll have much better games off the bench, still needs time to mature.
Exactly nowhere near ready to start week in week out, he’s better against tiring defenders.

Agree with the folks that say the midfield doesn't work. Casemiro needs to do too much currently. He needs help from one of Bruno / Mount dropping deep.
Casemiro is also too high himself thats part of the problem

I worry for Ten Hag, I think he's hugely underestimated the league (Or overestimated Bruno and Mount) if he thinks he can play Mount and Bruno as 8 with Casemiro holding. It's far too easy to defend against, there's absolutely no ball retention and creativity in that midfield.

A bit concerning that our only good half-chances came from unforced errors from Wolves players. We need to improve massively in a build up play.

The main problem is we don’t have a focal point.
Every time rashford has had the ball back to goal (only 3 or 4 times which is not good enough in itself) he’s lost it.
    Hopefully hoijlund gets fit asap

Wolves seem faster as well for some reason. We look very slow on and off the ball.

If Sancho played like Garnacho is playing, there would be 100 posts about how shite he is.
If Sancho had played like Garnacho in this half he would have been crucified on here
Are you the same guy with different accounts?

And what are you talking about?
50 pages, at least 39 are Garnacho this, Garnacho that.

I did say I will avoid match day thread rhis season, but...curiosity...

If ETH thinks we can play in this league with just one CM (and one who looks slow and tired) trying to hold the centre of the pitch, then we have no chance.
Mount and Bruno are covering the same role, without a proper forward interplaying with them in the build ups.
Result, little goal threat and gaping holes in CM.

Gonna be interesting to see who the next scapegoat going to be....Mount?

£60m for a player and new system that makes us obviously worse.

If there’s no system for Mount and Bruno to play together and not get run over then we’ve just spent £60m on a Bruno backup

If this bears out though it’s not Mounts fault, it will be Erik’s

I’m not sure what sort of player ETH thought he was buying on Mason Mount but he does not work with our other midfielders
Someone should have advised him better on this. Anyway he's here now. Let's hope if he doesn't improve that ETH will not take long to realise this. We definitely need to get another midfielder in.

On the plus side, it's only the first half and things could change in the second with a few adjustments. Need to be tidier on the ball and work it quicker to get around and behind Wolves. I expect we'll see a big improvement in the second half.

    McTominay needs to come on
I don't know if you're joking but I actually think he does. We're too weak centrally, lots of slow players - it's fine if you can zip the ball around and pass your way up the pitch, Traveller the opponent out chasing the ball but we don't seem to want/be able to.
