I’d give garnacho 15 minutes, hooking him now won’t help his confidence. He’ll know he’s been bad, but it’s important that ETH shows his faith in him. Tear into the senior players, some of them have been embarrassing tbh

Nah feck that, this isn’t a preseason friendly we need to worry about winning the game. Semedo has him locked up, switch it up.

We have no idea how to attack. Where are the combinations? Where is the movement?

As expected poor progression of the ball from back to front imo. Casemiro left isolated too often. Surprisingly little movement and passing.

    Poor game so far.

I would take Garnacho off at half time. Huge prospect but he is killing every attack in this match.

Would also consider taking off Martinez for Lindelof due to the yellow and looks a bit off the pace by his standards.

One of Bruno and Mount needs to drop deeper and player next to Casemiro to allow us to control the midfield more.

Garnacho is not a starter. Inn of the bench he can be world class, but I fail to remember a single game where he has started and done well.
He is best when the fullbacks are tired. Semedo has him in his pocket so far.

So often we are lethargic and a bit crap on the opening game of the season. It's really annoying because it's great when you absolutely batter a team straight out the gate.

Think Mount and Wan Bissaka both played well, no one else really.

Wasn't expecting us to be that bad. Wolves have run a lot. Would like to see the stats. We can only improve. Garnacho has been awful. Rashford has to try and get involved more.
Garnaucho is not ready to start, he’s better against tiring defenders, we desperately need to sign another 6/8 like Sofran Amrabat, midfield is so open, we are not more offensive with this formation, just more open, Rashford needs to move to left wing and Martial or Sancho play down the middle.

Terrible half. Team has gone back in terms of play. Reminded me of dark times that we had to endure past 10 years. Just hoping to counter

Yeah I think we all had the same concerns to be honest. Don't get it and it doesn't work. Something significant is going to have to click or I bet Ten Hag moves Bruno out the right again...

He was a pointless signing. We needed a younger Eriksen. We then went and sold Fred for a pathetic 10m also.

Casemiro is 31 FFS and can't be playing midfield by himself. We're going to get absolutely hammered again with this setup and ten Hag will be judged much more harshly this time.

Martinez has looked slower than usual since pre-season.
He's never been quick but playing him high up and having him in a position where people can transition towards him from deep, to the half way line is asking for trouble and exposing him.

Antony and Garnacho are just not physical enough. Garnacho is too weak and game moves too fast for him, and Antony takes too long to make decisions and can't outpace anyone. Besides that we've created tons of chances. Mount looking good.

When Rashy moves out to LW and Greenwood is back as RW this system will be deadly with Rasmus upfront.
Wouldn’t say we’ve created tons of chances. Wolves have had the better.

Frustratingly, Garnacho coming off the bench right now would change things up. It would have added an injection of pace in the second half. Looking at the bench, Sancho and Pellistri to come on?

Antony is our only lively attacking player. Looks up for it, the rest dont.

Garnacho has constantly lost out to Semedo and hasnt looked up for the match

He does but in the first 12 minutes, he got the ball in a very dangerous position twice and picked the wrong pass.

    He's not a smart footballer.

They why buy Mount when Bruno is better? If they can't play together what's the point in buying worse players to play a different system?

It's a good question, I asked this. My gut feeling is that ETH hasn't fully grasped the PL yet and is a bit naive

Been looking forward to this all weekend and all day at work and within 10 minutes all your enthusiasm is completely drained.

Don’t start with all the “negative” and “overreacting”, let’s call a spade a spade. That was embarrassingly poor.

What are the tactics? What are we trying to achieve? Where are the patterns in play? Where is the control of the ball.

How can you sit and watch that 45 and not be concerned.
Exactly. How can you - as a player - walk out in front of your home crowd for the first match of the season and just play passes back and forth to the goalkeeper for 10 minutes straight? It sapped any semblance of energy out of the stadium. Infuriating.

Same issues as last season really. Which is to be expected when the only outfield change is Mount.

Said it for a while but we need a different options in the wide areas.
    Agree

You have to have much better users of the ball all over the pitch to be this hurried and intent on verticality, otherwise the ball just gets lost and pinged back at you with your own team in disarray.

I’m not sure what sort of player ETH thought he was buying on Mason Mount but he does not work with our other midfielders

Agree with the folks that say the midfield doesn't work. Casemiro needs to do too much currently. He needs help from one of Bruno / Mount dropping deep.

We have no idea how to attack. Where are the combinations? Where is the movement?
There's no foundation to attack from, the ball isn't progressing from midfield to attack. It's almost as ETH couldn't secure / identify a ball carrier so has systematically decided to bypass the midfield entirely. That's fine but you need technical players to make it work.

    Id probably try this too.

That was my starting 11. Sancho might not have much physicality or intensity but he has a brain and in the absence of anything currently resembling intelligence in our attack this will make a huge difference

Garnacho is extremely dangerous in the box where he can stand up a defender and then shift to create half a yard for a shot with either foot. But out wide, 1 v 1 with a fullback with loads of pace? He has nothing.

Antony is extremely hard working and a fighter for a little dude and I can't help but kinda like him, despite the throat tattoos, but he is again absolutely terrible out wide 1 v 1 against a fullback. He just cuts back and dribbles inside where its crowded, or does some pointless moves and turns before finally passing back to AWB. Go on the outside with his right foot? Nope, never. I think he tried one time and it actually worked because no one was expecting it, but then he hit a laughable pass with his right foot straight to a defender.

    Just awful.

That's Rashford in a nutshell half the time. When you look at other teams and how their lead strikers press and then you see Rashford casually jogging behind a CB with the ball just to show that he is "pressing", you understand why he can never be lead striker if we ever intend to be a team who press from the front.

This match has so far been perhaps the worst from Ole's time when we could string 2 passes together. What are we doing in training. No cohesion in either pressing or passing.

I agree with you. At this level playing for Manchester United there’s just no excuse for it. It’s horrible to watch someone just shrug and half heartedly run about. Shocking really.

I’d like to see sancho come on, let’s see if he can do something in his third season with us.

LVG would be proud of that half, we are so convincing passing from the GK to the defenders and vice versa, everything is so difficult afterwards.
