I don't want to see Fernandes near the squad for this one. Let him relax at home.

Let’s face it, he’s gonna play Maguire, so....

    Henderson
    Tuanzebe (right back)
    Bailly
    Maguire
    Telles

    Matic
    Pogba
    VDB

    Greenwood
Martial (it’ll be either him or Rashford here)
    James

personally I wouldn’t play Bailly or Maguire as I think they should be our first choice pairing and I’d not play Pogba either but I think he will for height from set pieces with Matic. Martial or Rashford is forced because of the suspension of Cavani (we won’t play Greenwood up top with Mata and James, that’d be terrible).

I won't cry a river if we get knocked out. I obviously want us to win and any trophy is a bonus at present.

But I think the further we go, the more Ole will be inclined to introduce more of our first teamers into the line ups. I prefer a strong and comfortable top four finish (and more if possible) than a cup run to be honest. I can just see the likes of Bruno and Rashford being run ragged by March time.

I pretty much agree, but the problem is the people who measure "progress" year-on-year, who want to see a top-4 finish and a decent cup run.

Somehow I doubt they'll accept the semi-final of the EFL cup as a decent cup run, which leaves the FA cup or the Europa League. I think Ole has to put out a half-decent side today, which means we'll have to do the same in subsequent rounds, as you say.

It definitely has to be a decent XI, but this is a match that the very least Bruno and Rashford must skip. Maguire needs test too but I don’t think he’ll get any, any time soon. Making a serious run at the PL trophy must eclipse all other goals.

I’d kid to see Greenwood up top, but Martial needs a performance to get his season into third gear.

If Donny gets passed over again, the “patience” we’ve been asked to show will be pretty hard to give. This is all about the club and not one player so let’s hope Ole puts out the best XI possible while giving key players rest they need.

I think the players who need to start are:

    Henderson
    VdB
    Martial
    Tuazanbe

    Would like to start:
    Pellestri
    Someone else from the U-23
    Lingard

Different times, totally different type of player

Oh I don’t think Diallo will play today, it was also first game of the season which has an impact, we might not see him for a while....I was simply replying to the poster.

Any chance young diallo gets spot on bench? I know highly unlikely but maybe give 10mins at end of game if scoreline is wrapped up

Expect a full strength squad with no rotation for this one. The PE teacher will be scared to get knocked out of cups in back to back matches, (especially this one since it's a Championship side, he's clearly desperate to get a trophy), him rotating against Instanbul and that ultimately being the reason why we are out of the CL put the fear into him about rotation/rest. So no rest going into the Liverpool game because we can't rest against Burnley. Meanwhile Liverpool will have 8 days off before that, while we'll have played in 2 more games between today and then and only have 4 days off before the match.

    No white text?

Pellistri won't be playing, he recently reported Covid positive. If a U23 player is picked for the squad it would have to be Elanga or Puigmal, they probably deserve it the most.

    ----------------DDG--------------
    AWB----Baily----Axel----Telles
    -------------Matic-------------------
    --------------------McTom
    --------------Beek-------------
    Mata-----Greenwood---Rashford

Gone with this, which is the kind of approach I think Ole will take:

    Henderson
    Tuanzebe Bailly Maguire Telles
    Matic
    Van de Beek Pogba
    Mata
    Greenwood Martial
    -----
Grant; Williams, Lindelof; McTominay, Lingard, James, Bruno; Rashford, Ighalo

Still starting Maguire, Pogba and Martial with the hope of subbing them all off. If we aren't getting the better of them, there's still insurance with Bruno & Rashford on the bench.

Said it a few times already, but I expect 2-3 of our 'best' 6-7 players to still play. If we had beaten City, I think it would have probably been 9-10 changes from the City game instead.

De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Shaw, Fred, and hopefully Bruno, Rashford & McTominay all left out in the expectation of playing against both Burnley & Liverpool.

Pogba & Bailly in particular haven't played a lot of football, so I'd be happier for them to play on a bit more over the coming weeks. If we are still in the FA Cup, more changes and chance of rest can be utilized in the Europa League. If we are serious about contesting for the title, there should be worry about us not finishing in the top 4 at worst. This makes the Europa League more of a dud than it has been the last few times we were in it when top 4 was far from an expectation.

If we're still in the FA Cup and pushing for a high finish in the league, we can constantly rotate the big players in the Europa League IMO.

Yeah I think something like this is probably about right.

    Henderson
    Williams Tuanzebe Lindelof Telles
    Matic McTominay
    Greenwood Van de Beek James
    Martial
Something like this maybe? Or perhaps:

    Henderson
    Williams Tuanzebe Lindelof Telles
    Matic
    Van de Beek Fred
    Mata
    Greenwood James

Do not play Harry, Fred, Bruno, Rash, Shaw, Bailly and AWB please!

He barely has any senior team appearances.
The same expectation was placed on Dalot (who also had little senior team experience) when he first arrived.
Given that we are in a title race and I'm sure that Ole wants to try and win the FA Cup, I don't see Amad Dialo playing for the first team anytime soon as every game we play will be crucial, but we'll have to wait and see.

There was a guy on here who said he'd quit the forum if Diallo wasn't keeping Martial out by the end of the season.
One of the most ludicrous predictions I've ever seen.

Pellistri won't be playing, he recently reported Covid positive. If a U23 player is picked for the squad it would have to be Elanga or Puigmal, they probably deserve it the most.

Wow. OK fair enough - didn't see he was sick. Hope he gets better soon.

Would be good to see Puigmal or anyone really. Perfect game to see how some of the U-23 play in the big leagues especially since we're out of League Cup

Right, everyone always harps on about young players getting minutes in cup games. Let us see if some key yoof's get some quality minutes in.

Am I missing something? That's pretty much our full strength squad

Forgive my sin but I'd be happy to see Lingard plays for 90 minutes if it means Bruno will be rested.

Yeah, unfortunate news. He seemed to be in good form before this. I agree, these were the classic games Sir Alex would throw a kid on in the 75th minute but doesn't seem like anyone travelled from the reserves.

De Gea, Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Tuanzebe, Bailly, Maguire, Telles; Fred, McTominay, Matic, Van de Beek, Mata, Lingard; Martial, Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford, Ighalo.

Is this really the whole squad, no Williams, James, Shaw, ToFu, Mangi?

I guess what I would play is

    Ighalo
    Lingard - Mata - Greenwood
    VDB - McT
    Telles - Tuanzebe - Bailly - AWB
    Henderson
What I think we will see

    Martial
    VDB - Mata - Greenwood
    Matic - McT
    Telles - Tuanzebe - Bailly - AWB
    Henderson
